Hi Bella, please try following the instructions here: http://support.brillkids.com/entries/20432656-How-to-update-your-Little-Reader-software-to-the-latest-version

If you are having problems in a specific step in updating LR, do let us know by emailing us at support[at]brillkids[dot]com .  smile

Alternatively, if you have a spare Windows PC that you can use in the meantime, you may go ahead and install LR there with the beta Arabic curriculum. This option may work better if you have several LR curricula or personal lessons in the PC you're using now.

Kezia i am finding many typo  errors , i wonder how best to report them since there are so many categories . Downloading and importing the categories went very well , no problems . I really like it , i cannot wait to test it with the kids tomorrow and see their reaction .

Hi  Viv! For all comments or bug reports about the Arabic beta curriculum, please email it to us at support[at]brillkids[dot]com.

You may follow this format for any errors and corrections that you want to report:

Sem ___________
Folder ___________
Category _________
Word ________ (English Counterpart)

For example:
Sem: 1
Folder: General Categories
Category: Action Words 1
Word: صَفِّق (run)
Correction: The word should be written as "XXX." Some pictures are for a different word (bk-jump-1.jpg and bk-smile-3.jpg). Video bk-run-vid-2.avi does not play at all. etc.

If you found several errors, you can group your notes into parts (like list all Sem 1 errors first then all Sem 2 errors).

If there are errors in more than 1 word in one category, you can list them out like this:

Sem: 1
Folder: General Categories
Category: Common Animals 1
Words:
1. كَلْب (dog) - 2 of the pictures show a fish instead of a dog (bk-dog-2.jpg and bk-dog-5.jpg)
2. قِطَّة (cat) - 1 picture audio is talking about a duck (bk-ar-cat-pa-1-m.mp3)
3. حِصَان (horse) - All pictures are missing
etc.

We are not very strict about how you format your bug report, so if you prefer to list down the errors in a different way, that is alright. The most important thing is that you clearly state the exact word and the errors or corrections for that word. If the error is in any media file (picture, video, pronunciation or picture audio), please mention the filename of that particular media file.

In case you don't know where to find any media file's filename, follow these steps (see attached screenshot):

1. Open Little Reader and go to PLAY & EDIT > Courses (or Categories)
2. Select the specific word where you saw the error
3. From the preview panel on the rightmost side of the LR window, click on the [AUDIO] [PICTURE] [VIDEO] or [PICTURE AUDIO] button
4. The filename of the currently shown or previewed media file is shown at the bottom of the preview panel
5. Click on the right or left arrow buttons (shown on either side of the filename box) to find the specific media file that you want to report

Good Afternoon,

What appear to be spelling errors, with regard to tashkeel, are actually display errors due to the Arabic font that is being used.  I would suggest using the one from here:

King Fahed Qur'an Printing Complex - Nashk font (used for printed materials):
http://fonts.qurancomplex.gov.sa/?page_id=608

or choosing one of the two common Arabic script fonts in the Microsoft suite > Arabic Typesetting or Traditional Arabic.

Also, when I attempt to change the settings (using bulk change) for each days course to a different font and timing of slides, it saves, but does not apply it and I have to manually adjust it for each 'set' for each day.  Is there an easier way, please?

Additionally, with the split word sets, the 2nd syllable is cut off in pronunciation during the first pronunciation/slide and I am unsure how to slow it down?

And with regard to another project I have to create for my Arabic course, I need images to show actions of verbs that I will conjugate for present and past tenses (active voice) with 14 pronouns as seen in the last two right-hand columns below:

http://www.archive.org/download/ArabicVerbsMadeEasyPdfs2/pronouns.pdf

http://ia700804.us.archive.org/5/items/ArabicVerbsMadeEasyPdfs/0010_darasa.pdf

http://ia700808.us.archive.org/4/items/ArabicVerbsMadeEasyPdfs2/0032_kataba.pdf

Any suggestions for how do do that?  May I use images from BK-LR?  Or where can I find images?

Thanks!

Hi Ayesha, thanks for your bug report! To help ensure that we don't miss your future bug reports, please email your reports instead to support[at]brillkids[dot]com.

About "bulk editing" course lessons, you may want to just edit the Arabic playback presets instead, since all playback settings used in the Arabic curriculum are controlled by those presets.

Here are steps on how to edit the presets:

1. Open LR and in the PLAY COURSES screen, click on the cog button beside the "PLAYBACK SETTINGS PRESETS..." box (see attached step-1.png).

2. In the Edit Playback Settings window, click on the "Preset" dropdown menu, then click on the "Preset Manager" button (see attached step-2.png).

3. The Preset Manager will open, and on the left side you'll see a list of all playback presets in your LR. Select one of the Arabic playback presets - all Arabic presets are named with "AR" in them like "AR Multisensory," "AR Picture Flash," etc.

4. Edit any setting for your selected preset from the setting tabs on the right side of the Preset Manager window, then click Save to finalize your changes for that preset

5. Repeat Steps 3-4 for the rest of the Arabic playback presets.

6. Once you're done with your edits, close the Preset Manager window and click Cancel in the Edit Playback Settings window. The next time you play the Arabic lessons, your preset changes will take effect.

About your personal Arabic course project, you may reuse pictures from your BrillKids curricula as long as you're only using the course yourself (not to be shared at the BrillKids Library).

All media files used in your LR lessons are stored in this folder: C:\ProgramData\BrillKids\Little Reader\Media Library
As a shortcut, open your Start menu and  go to All Programs > BrillKids > Little Reader > Media Library

Please make sure that you only COPY the file from the Media Library folder instead of moving it outside the folder. If any media file is removed from that Media Library folder, you will get a "missing media" error when you play the LR lesson where that file is used.

Another way to get pictures for your project is to use stock image websites (some of these provide pictures for free). A few examples of such websites are Wikimedia Commons, Foter.com and Morguefile.com.

However, if you need pictures that show certain action words more clearly or something more specific, the best way to do so is to simply take the pictures yourself. Most of the time stock image websites don't have enough pictures for use in action words type of lessons.

I hope this helps!  Wink

cry  cry  Yes I am sitting here crying over hours of work on reviewing the Arabic curriculum . I started a word document and was writing in some errors I found . I just cannot find the document . I am looking everywhere on my computer , actually it is not my computer , I used my husband's following kezia's recommendation , and my fear I was adding up to my document and forgot to save and somebody must have closed it by accident and it got deleted . | just want to say it is a beautiful curriculum , my kids love it and I can see them learning a lot from it . it is very nicely made , well done one more time brillkid team and the team who helped translating and creating the Arabic curriculum .

Ahlaan ya Bella.   Sorry to hear of the computer troubles.  Does the computer have auto-save set up for MS-Word documents?  You can try looking at the most recent documents and see if you can locate it that way.   I hope you find it!  ~ Ayesha

Hi Bella, sorry to hear about that! Yes, you may be able to retrieve your file if you check the recent documents on your computer as Ayesha suggested.

If you have Word pinned to your Start menu, try the following:

- Go to START
- Hover your cursor over "Microsoft Office Word 20XX" (just to highlight it)
- The right side of your Start menu will show a list of "Recent" documents that you edited or created in Word

Or you can check from inside Word:

- Open Word
- Click on Word's menu (the Windows button at the top left corner of the Word window)
- The menu should show a list of "Recent Documents" where you may find the file you are looking for

I ready to test your system in Arabic, I have an access to wide range of babies and little children.
I am a teacher and a mother, and I have taught your toddlers to read in way close to brill kids way.
I would love to help out... Anything to support Arabic
