Chinese fonts

Hi brillkids,

I found that my chinese fonts in Little reader doesn't show the correct one? How do i select a correct font for chinese language.

Hi Babymum, for the "Font" option, you need to highlight one of the "Font" folders (e.g., "CNS Common Fonts") then from the pop-up options, select the specific font that you want to use or select one of the "Random" options (see "lr-screen-1.png" attached).

Your screenshot shows the "Edit Font Groups" window - that is where you can make your own Font Group, or add fonts to the Font Groups that came with your BrillKids lessons.

To make your own Font Group:

1. In the Edit Font Groups window, click [+NEW] (bottom left corner of window) and type a name for your font group's folder.

2. The "All Fonts" box (rightmost box) lists all the fonts installed in your computer - from that list, just double-click on the font(s) you want to add to your Font Group or click the left arrow [⬅] button (see "lr-screen-2.png" attached).

3. Once done with your edits, click Save. Close the Edit Font Groups window then choose your new Font Group for your lesson's "Font" setting.

To edit the existing Font Groups, just select the Font Group you want to edit, then add in the extra fonts as needed. Please be careful when editing the Font Groups that came with your BrillKids lessons, especially the "Common Fonts" group - you can add as many additional fonts as you like to those groups, but AVOID removing the fonts that were originally included in the group or else you may get errors when you play your lessons.

By the way, from your screenshot it seems you are using an old version of the software (latest is 3.6.1660) and curriculum. It is best that you update to the latest versions - for the updated Chinese Curriculum we did replace a few fonts that did not display characters properly.

Hi Kezia,

I couldn't find the CNS common fonts that were shown in your screen shot... those 4 chinese fonts are what i am looking for... previously last year i saw these fonts but now i cant find them    also, i don't see the cursive kind also....   you refer to my screenshot attachment...

Hi Babymum, you actually have the font groups from the Chinese Curriculum - they are the ones named "BK CN Simplified Fonts" and "BK CN Simplified Fonts 2" in your screenshot.

However, as I mentioned in  my previous reply, it looks like you are using the old version of the Chinese Curriculum.

The font groups from my screenshot ("CNS Common Fonts" and "CNS Cursive Fonts") are from the latest version of the Chinese Curriculum - aside from changing the names of the font groups, we did replace a few fonts because the old ones caused character display errors.

For your reference, the latest version of the Chinese (Simplified) Curriculum is version 7, dated January 13, 2016. You can check your curriculum version in TOOLS > Software Information, written right after each semester's title (e.g., "BrillKids Chinese (Simplified) Semester 1 (ver. 7)").

To update your curriculum, you just need to re-download it from your BrillKids account. If you edited some words from the curriculum (to add your own pictures, etc.), you can export your edited lessons first. After updating your curriculum, just double-click on the file(s) you exported to put your lesson edits back in.
