The National Sleep Foundation recommends the following amount of sleep per age group ...
Preschoolers (3 to 5 years): 11-13 hour... sleep tips:
Establish consistent sleep and wake schedules, even on weekends....
Use your bedroom only for sleep and sex (keep "sleep stealers" out of the bedroom – avoid watching TV, using a computer or reading in bed)
Thanks tatianna for this information. According to this there are 2 points we do not have with my grandson:
1) Keep same schedule on weekends and
2) Keep the bedroom quite when trying to sleep.
I don't consider it perjudicial to read at bed time, on the contrary i feel it gives us a special bond. And it is nice when he askes for me to read something and when we finish he goes to sleep with light music.
As to the post he rarely takes a nap but when he does it can be 2-3 hours.
