Hello,

I have found a lot of useful recources on this website and would like to start teaching my daughter (7 months) with the flashcards. I speak to her in Russian, while my husband in Spanish, and we live in the US and speak English to each other. Which language do you suggest I start with English or Russian? Any feedback would be very much appreciated!

Thank you.

Regards,

Tanya

That's a tough one!!  LOL

One way to approach it would be to start with the language that you would consider to be her first language, and that looks like either Russian or Spanish in your case, since that's the language she is spoken to, and which she will first learn to speak.

Or you could look at it this way - if you were to put her to a nursery or kindergarten, what would be the primary language of that institution?

Either way, it's a tough choice, and the availability of content might also play a role in the decision!

I would DEFINATLY start with Russian because the english and Spanish are going to be easy enough to pick up living in the US but the Russian is going to be harder to teach because the others will be all around her much more!! trust me I am trying to only speak with my kids in French because we live in the USA and it is impossible to learn French here because everyone either speaks spanish or english. My husband does not speak french so the kids speak mostly english but they are getting better at speaking french to me.  Also my kids are 3, 2, and 8 months so they dont speak much but to each other but they understand french completly!! and no I  am not fluent in french at all! I am american and really wanted to teach them so I learned it when my daughter was born I still cant talk too much to them yet but I learn more everyday and my kids are teaching me all the time. GOOD LUCK!! yes

babies can learn every thing. you can teach every language, but you can teach more , the one you give preference. i do tech my baby Dhivehi ( mother tongue), English and Arabic plus math. she is enjoying all those. now she could speak in both the languages. she is only 15 months and now she talk. so i think u can show your baby every language wishes him to talk. it not as difficult as we think. the are much more intelligent than we ever can think. im really happy to see this

Thank you everyone for all of your helpful comments! My 2 year old is learning all of the three languages at the same time. I am going to start teaching the 7 months old next week. I found some flashcards in Russian that I can download.

I have started teaching mine all three languages ... I am talking to her in English, husband in Urdu, and maid in Arabic.
In the beginning, she was a bit confused but now she says the word in all three languages without making any mistakes. Kid's intelligence is beyond our thoughts. Try all three at the same time ... use simple words like yes, no, go etc. by translating each as well.

I'm polish, my husband is italian and we live in Italy, the first words talked to my son were polish, but italian is easier to learn for him. He sent a many of english audio's, cd's etc. so he can understand it now (I think, he like english book, films). I'm trying to learn him french and spanish too, but only a few words a day (2, 3 words). Hope it can help.
