Rosetta Stone
«

Hi,
Has anybody used Rosetta Stone to teach foreign language? The reviews I read in amazon.com are confusing and the product is very pricy. I would like to teach my daughter Turkish and there are not many products available for that, therefore considering Rosetta Stone.
Thanks

Dear Miamimum & All,
I have Rosetta Stone Arabic (Volumes 1 & 2) that are excellent. The lessons are easy to learn and short.
And I guess it depends on your purpose for learning Turkish as to whether or not the investment is worth it. How else can you learn/teach it? And are those alternatives readily available? For me, my purpose of learning Modern Standard Arabic that is taught in Rosetta Stone is for mostly for comprehension of Arabic television, print, and audio forms of the language. It will also help me somewhat with the Classical Arabic, since MSA follows the grammatical format of Classical, a less for the dialects because they follow their own grammatical structures that are slightly different.
What is your purpose for learning/teaching Turkish? And how often are you going to use it? Do you know any Turkish people to help you practice what you are learning? Do you have satellite to watch Turkish language programs? There is a Turkish satellite channel called Ebru that is in English and another Turkish satellite channel in Turkish that I can find out the name for you and the site addresses that may be of use.

Hi again . . . forgot to mention that some library systems in America have internet access to Rosetta Stone in various languages . . . this may be an option for you . . . and I know you can order a demo cd for free although I am unsure if it has Turkish as a language on it . .

Hi Ayesha,
Many thanks for your response. I actually want to get this for my 20 month old daughter. I am from Turkey, living in USA. She does not hear any conversation in Turkish, as I have no relatives or Turkish friends here. I would like her to get exposed to written language as well. I thought that a structured program may help her learning it more efficiently.
Thanks again...
