KARMA
Only members with a minimum of 10 posts may add or remove karma points.

HOW TO GIVE KARMA:

You can give Karma if you have made 10 posts in the forum - this is the requirement for you to give Karma away.

If you look on the left side of the posts (this is where you can see the forum profile of the posters, there are certain bits of information there.  For example:

You can add and/subtract to other people's Karma by clicking on the Karma + or the Karma - links.

You won't know for what or from whom your Karma came from, as this system is totally anonymous. smile

Giving a KARMA point = +1 point
Recieving a KARMA point = +3 points
Receiving a Negative KARMA point = -10 points

Warning!
1. Please note, negative Karma for spam posts, useless posts, "thank you" posts might lower your points! We created this feature to punish spammers and award hard working members of our community. Spammers should not get points for the spam they post on our forum! Less spam means great forum and more points for our loyal members.
2. Point building with excessive Karma will result in immediate ban.
3. Begging for Karma points is not allowed.

POSITION
For all you newbies to forums, positions are preset terms for all members, and they are fun titles that show your history and activity in the forums.  For the BrillKids forums, the Position changes as you post, and they are preset according to the hierarchy below:

NEWBORN - Required Posts = 0
INFANT - Required Posts = 50
TODDLER - Required Posts = 100
PRESCHOOLER - Required Posts = 250
SCHOOL AGE - Required Posts = 500
TWEEN - Required Posts = 1500

So will the points be a way that you decide which beta testers get the software for free? Also, I am a little confused about position, I see that I have 396 points, but I am still a newborn. I guess I am missing something as to how it works, sorry :embarrass:

Whew!  Thanks for calling that typo to my attention!  yes You are certainly right to ask this question, and I'm really glad that you did!

I edited the Position requirements - I had meant to say POSTS not POINTS.  :embarrass: I'm very sorry for the mixup!  Anyways as it goes, the positions are only there as fun titles, so I hope you won't take them too much to heart!

And yes, the points are what you will need to exchange for licenses to unlock your Little Reader in the future!  We're still troubleshooting the system, so we hope you can bear with us during this forum infancy stage.   :baby:

And thanks for asking.  :-*

By the way, just in case you may also be wondering why you have 300++ credits now, that's because a sign up for the forums during the beta testing stage gives you an instant 300 points!

And one more thing...what about the stars? I see all the mods are newborns but have 5 stars, but everyone else has one star. Do they change as we move up in position? Do they mean something? I know all of this is not that important, but I am just trying to figure everything out!

They mean the very same thing as the position. They're not very important, and you move up when you make more posts.

I think that the only people who have a lot of stars are the administrators.  happy

Hi Lappy -
Quick question -
People have been kind enough to give me some Karma points, and now that I have enough posts, I am under the impression that I can give some to others (which I would like to) - but I can't figure out how to give them. I've looked through earlier posts (so forgive me if I've just missed the info) but couldn't find how to do this.
Thanks for your help!

You're welcome! Wink
(I think you got at least 2 from me! smile)

As for giving them, you should see "applaud" and "smite" on the left, under each person's name. If you don't, let us know!

Hi Leanna and KL!

Here's an excerpt regarding giving Karma points:

KARMA
Only members with a minimum of 10 posts may add or remove karma points.

We did this so that people who aren't active in the forums won't just go in and give people negative points.  ph34r  Extra protection to our valued forumers like you!

LOL I hope that helps!

Cheers,

Lappy

Aha - thanks KL for the explanation - I feel I am needing a "duh" smiley at the moment for not knowing what the 'applaud' and 'smite' were for...

(thanks also for the karma -I had a feeling a few had come my way from you!)

Now I can reward people's helpfulness (hmmm, I sense some Karma flowing to KL and Lappy)!
Thanks again for the explanation!

You just press applaud under someone's name.

What does "thank you" posts mean? That doesn't mean telling someone thank you in a thread lowers your points does it?
