jazana allah wa eyakom, the slide show was yours in the first place so I only did a small fraction of the work
I'm working with microsoft powerpoint 2003
I embed the sound file in the first slide
this link explains how to do it better than I do
http://www.dvd-ppt-slideshow.com/powerpoint-knowledge/sound-across-slides.html
except that in the last step I choose the exact number of slides so that the recitation doesn't start all over again
then choose slide show  >> rehearse timing
& when the slide show begins click next when the word on the slide is read & do it till the show is over  then press ESC & save
plz ask if anything is not clear

as for the book I read it but not the 40th anniversary edition
any major diffrence from the previous edition?

Surah al-Teen individual words on 8.5 x 11 (considering to reformat the size of the slide to 6 x 11 and will have to reposition the words to center them; and do you think i should include the slide number on these? i cannot make up my mind on this issue - it may be useful for when i create jpegs and upload them into LR and the random function will re-order the playlist; but if they are printed out as actual flashcards, then the number may be used by the child to put the random words back in order for the ayah.  ohhh what to do? what to do?  confused ) . . and i did not create a .ppt for Doman Step 2 Couplets or Doman Step 3 Phrases, because once a child has learned al-Qaid'ah al-Nooraneeyah / Noorani or another similar reader, they understand the concept of connecting the words, so I just am creating the Steps 1 Words, Step 4 Ayah, Step 5 Surah as Madinah Mushaaf page to build from words to mushaaf . . . what do you think?

Another question - as I am teaching my children a new surah, i am confused on which process to use for tafeedh while combining Noorani method of spell-reading, and Doman method for learning word recognition . . . should i teach all of the words in a surah on the doman method schedule first, in random order, and then step 4 ayah? . . or should i teach the words in an ayah first, and then the ayah itself; memorize it; and then move on to the next ayah with words first and then ayah? . . . i hope that makes sense .. . because the doman method is to take a book/surah and teach all words first, and then make couplets, and then phrases, and then sentences, and then they read the book . . .and the Doman schedule has a built in repetition; but with Qur'anic memorization, high repetition is part of the process, yet most children learn the sounds of connecting words in an ayah, without learning the individual words in an ayah; and from my own experiences, I think it is best to learn the individual words first, and then how to connect them with tajweed in an ayah; but should i teach all the words in a surah first, or words by ayah for memorization; and then i could create a category of words and playlists based on the doman method schedule of 5 sets of 5 words (in random order) for 5 days and retire the 5 oldest words and introduce 5 new words, to ensure word recognition and basic meaning in English for the surah as reinforcement, while simultaneously achieveing tafeedh; hmmm, i think this last option is what i will do, insha'Allah - what do you think? . . . jak . . .asa . . .

first of all I havent been using power point for a long time so I need some help with it
the files I downloaded appears as the pics in the attachment I used the "print screen" button 2 send'em to u  u might know how 2 solve that problem

the letters doesn't appear as they should I'm using powerpoint viewer 2007 2 view pptx files
& the translation show does it have only english  translation at the bottom or am I supposed to see something else

as for the font I think its too small for me but I have a question to ask as I have read glen doman's book a few month ago & i don't really remember a lot of the details
are the children supposed to see the translation or is it just for the parent? if  the children are supposed to see it I think it should be much bigger for them to notice if not just make it 14 or 16 to make the parents  eyes more comfortable

I'm not really following on the quaeda noraneya thing as I'm Egyptian & arabic have never been a problem to me so I never really read about it untill I saw it in your files but I think it could be very useful if I'm trying to teach my son as he's only 9 month old I downloaded one of your files but it was only part one couldn't find the rest of the files , are they for little reader? I only have little reader as a trial version that's way I prefer downloading slideshows

as for the numbering thing when I'm in  doubt I always save a copy before & after adding the detail I'm in doubt about use one copy for the LR & the other for printing

Assalaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuhu

Dearest sister Ayesha

I currently think the best way is to complete qaaidatun-nooraaniyyah properly first and then go straight onto aayaat.  But at the same time flash words (Doman stlye) that commonly come up in the Quraan.

Wallaahu A`lam.

Inshaa'Allaah I will be trying this method.  I saw the video of your daughter reciting, maashaa'Allaah! May Allaah increase her in knowledge.  Please do upload more videos as they progress.

Jazaakillaahu Khayraa
Wassalaamu Alaykum Wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu

Ummu Maryam

Anticca > ahhh.  okay - you need the fonts to be able to see the .ppt correctly, if you would please PM me your email address and i will forward you the fonts to install and then you can view it properly . . . the English translation at the bottom is for the parent, and the word-for-word English translation for when the child is older is here:

http://www.understandquran.com/translation/english.html

The Arabic edition of al-Qaidah al-Nooraneeyah is being taught in Egypt now, and the information about it is on facebook, with two short videos of children reciting the lessons on the wall, the posts are dated September 1st and September 4th, 2010:

Furqangroup Eygpt
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001388044666&sk=info

I use the English edition of Noorani, ( http://www.islamicbookstore.com/b9420.html ) and I prefer it because Sheikh Uthman Taha of Medinah, penned it himself, so the script is exactly as the Madinah mushaaf (that Sheikh Uthman also penned) making the transition smooth from reader to mushaaf, alhamdulillah; but both editions work and my children can read from both editions, masha'Allah, alhamdulillah.

I tried to use the Arabic flashcards by Nohayo, but it was confusing for the children, so I converted Noorani to the Doman method format and taught that first.  They are currently half-way through Lesson 11, and are able to sight read and sound out the words because they know the harakat, tanween, medd, leen, sukoon (and have to learn shaddah, but they understand the concept and the Noorani lesson 12 will be drills/focused practice).

I decided to go ahead and show them flaschards from the short suwar they are memorizing via talqeen (listening/repeating) in their Isalmic Montessori preschool here in America, because they were mispronouncing words, saying "deenAkum" instead of "deenUkum" in Surah al-Kafiroon; and they pronounced it properly after I showed them the flashcards, spell read the words with the last harakat, and spell read the ayah with tajweed, and ending on sukoon.

So, I am trying to figure out how to merge Noorani, Doman method, and tafeedh together.   rolleyes

* * *

Ummu Maryam > wa 'alaikum as salaam wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh!  smile  Hmmm - I think this what I have decided on, because showing all the words first and then the ayah is too time consuming; so I will spell read the individual words first, and then spell read them with tajweed in the ayah, have them memorize it, and go on to the next ayah; and then set up the words in the words in the surah in random fashion to reinforce word recognition, insha'Allah.  And interestingly enough - they recognize all of the Noorani words when they occur in the mushaaf, and say "That is in Noorani!!!!!"  smile

And thanks for the reminder - I keep forgetting to record them and need to do so!, insha'Allah.

wa 'alaikum as salaam wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh,
Ayesha smile

I believe that children can memorize quran better by listening as this works for me as an adult so it must be magic with them we never teach children TV ads or songs yet they memorize them perfectly I know a lot of children that knows full song albums by heart without anyone making effort with that so we should use this gift for a better purpose
adding the picture will enforce the memorization but I guess it's not the first line we have people here in egypt that are illiterate can memorize quran perfectly just by talqueen & llistening
as for my self I used to go to a "maqraa" & at home when I want to memorize quran I use a tape or a CD playlist that is half to a full hour long & keep repeating it in the car in the citcken when I'm cooking or cleaning or doing any job that doesn't involve my mind & I do that for a month then when I start hefz  from almushaf it's very easy cz I already got it by listening
as for babies I think we can repeat the tape for less than a month &  the mushaf step will just be a secondary one as their minds are like a sponge in absorbing material
can you listen to & understand arabic ? this is an arabic link of a kid who memorized the whole quran just by listening to it & repeating it

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/mF3ZTVi80DQ&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/mF3ZTVi80DQ&rel=1</a>

there are alot of kids like that here only older aged 5-10
anyway keep doing what you are doing only try adding the listening thing when your kids are playing or in the car , I'm sure the flash cards will improve there arabic and dealing with the mushaf & I'll try doing the same too
I guess with small surahs you can teach the words first & as you go you'll find that words start to repeat like allah alrahman alkareem men allade almoameneen & so on with larger surahs you will have to divide the page for instance in halfs  or quarters & teach the words in that portion & use domans method of 5 words &
retiring old ones with new ones then showing ayas

Yes, of course; talqeen is the traditional method for teaching Qur'an, especially since historically, the Arabic language is oral.  Yet, children 0 - 5 all over the world are learning to read and speak various languages with the Doman and Shichida methods, and YBCR, and what language is more important to Muslims than Qur'anic Arabic?

The little boy is a rarity, masha'Allah.  And there are several Iranian children who have done the same thing.  I think that a lot of children have the potential, if the parents knew how to teach them.  The way to teach children - is to make it fun and relaxing, with lots of positive reinforcement; and to always stop teaching them right before they want to stop the session; so it keeps them interested, and hungry for learning more.  I wish they would have recorded the following video when she was less tired, and not pushed her, because she looks and sounds absolutely miserable.  Sad

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/ovdotiN5eVo&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/ovdotiN5eVo&rel=1</a>

I played Qur'an for the girls while they were in utero, and after birth, they listen to 1 of 24 cds of Minshawi tarteel, consequitevely every night.  And with the flashcards, it helps for them to pronounce correctly, because they have the base lessons of Noorani, and multi-sensory learning strenthens memorization.  They also have a love of learning and I hope to develop in them the daily habit of reciting Qur'an, insha'Allah, by taking advantage of their golden years, insha'Allah.

With the Qur'anic flashcards, they are developing instant recognition of words, and the basic English meanings, which will help their visual reading and reciting.  It is a lot of vocabulary in the beginning, and will become less due to the repetition of words and variations of words, while the primary learning is talqeen.  My focus is also on correct pronunciation - quality over quantity, even if it takes longer, it is better than having to "relearn" later.

Baraaka Allahu feeki.

as salaam 'alaikum,
Ayesha smile
