Hi everyone,

I'm still trying to figure out how to do this. I printed some of the flash cards and also downloaded the lite LR to try it. I have been doing the LR three times a day for three categories. Sometimes I use pp presentations I have created or downloaded, but not everyday. The paper flash cards I have been using when we are out of town. I'm not sure if the LR presentation replace the flash cards and the pp presentations or if I'm supposed to do all of them everyday.

i personally like to use flashcards more(it's actually picture cards, word on one side, and picture on the other) because i found that my son loves the computer too much that he started to read less. (he used to love books).

he will cry if i take him away from the computer. i don't think he needs this much of computer and i don't want him turning into some kind of computer freak, the words he's learning now, he will learn it when he's in school eventually. So i decide to look at the computer less, like every other day, 3 mins only.

I was also wondering how much you should actually do. If you should do the slideshows and flash cards.
At the moment i am just doing slide shows while she eats lunch and for morning and nights i use flash cards. the advantage that i'm finding with slideshows is the noises. My daughter loves the animals slideshows as after the word there is a pic of animal accompanied by the relevant noise. She isnt really interested in the other ones as much. Any tips on making veges more interesting smile?

I can also understand not wanting ur child to become addicted to computers, my husband's mum is addicted and she neglected her children and only slept when she pretty much was collapsing...i think variety is good. Maybe even take it outdoors and provide flash cards with the real life pic of what it is describing. eg. TREE and show them a tree, ANT and show them ants...etc.

Pls remember that younger babies are not adivised to have any computer or tv exposure before 2 years age. Per The American Academy of Pediatrics- Pls double check with your pediatrician and do your own research about the subject -

Firstly, Gloria, I believe the AAP (and at least the article you mentioned) talks about TV's and babies, which we fully agree with, not about computers.  I suspect Doman never mentioned computers too (afterall, they too have Cd-roms which need to be played back on a computer).  We've got an article about babies and TV, and there have been some threads about this topic too, so I won't go into it again.  In a nutshell, it's all about content, so TV can still be beneficial depending on what you show them through the TV.

Joha, our stance is that nothing should replace anything else.  If you have time and your child likes them all, then use all methods, cos variety is always good.  Otherwise, then focus in on the medium your child likes best, or which you find the most effective (which is often the same thing).

I do however believe that TV in moderation is OK. I have taught several children who actually learned spanish by watching Dora the Explorer. I use flashcards with my infant and my toddler, but they have computer time as well. I also record my power point presentations on my camcorder that makesa DVD and play them on the TV instead of using the computer monitor all the time. So their tiny  hands don't touch the key board and mouse. But eventually I will train my child to type and use the mouse. My toddler can press the keys and make giberish on word he loves it. He thinks he is doing something great. Don't limit your child's abilities to do great with using a computer. So what if they become a computer geek as long as it doesn't harm the child by monitoring the time. We only spend 3 minutes on the computer anyway. But I think flashcards for my toddler works better. He likes to sit in his high chair after eating a read his flashcards. I hand him the flashcard and takes it from my hand and places it on his tray and then he picks it back up and hands it back to me. This is a routine that we do after each meal. He loves it. He even learned a new word today, marker. It is so great.

If your time permits, then I would say you can do all of those everyday provided that your child is receptive and happy.

I think every mom here wishes that if only they could input a lot of bit of information for their child everyday... they will definitely give their children more and do it in a loving and joyful way.  smile
