Hello Everyone!

First of all I want to thank all the people that have uploaded presentations in Chinese. For us, parents that want to teach chinese to our kids and don't speak the language it is great.  yes  I would like to ask a favor. Would it be possible to specify what kind of chinese is (Mandarin, Cantonese, etc..) in the description section?  blink  This would be very helpful because that way we know for sure we are showing the right information. Also, if possible (I know it takes more time) it would be very helpful to have the pronunciation  blush

Thanks again for all your help!  smile

KL,

Would it be possible for the person that approves the file,to ask this to the person that is submitting the file?

Is it possible to create an option when people are uploading Chinese files, where they have to choose which kind of Chinese the file they are uploading is? Meaning once someone picks Chinese as a language some options come below where they have to pick which kind of Chinese, otherwise they can't continue with the process. This will really help us a lot. I have e-mailed a couple of people that have created Chinese presentations trying to figure out if they are in Mandarin, but haven't gotten a response from some of them.

Thanks!  smile

Great Idea Joha, also to add translation or pictures will be great otherwise we are cluless about meaning.

I just can't wait for the Little Reader Chinese files that will be incorporated with the new version - knowing the quality of materials that LR has I am sure these files will be rich in content  and reliable.

actually since the chinese fonts are further divided into simplified chinese, which is used in the Mainland China / Singapore and tranditional chinese which is used in Hong Kong and Taiwan, it would be more appropriate to have them identified in the uploading file too, otherwise for those do not know chinese fonts one will be confused that what they are teaching the babies as well. LOL

Actually, come to think about it, the issue isn't so much whether it's Mandarin or not, because I believe virtually ALL files that have been uploaded are Mandarin Chinese.

Please let me know if anyone has encountered a non-mandarin (eg., Cantonese) file.

The much bigger issue is what NMY pointed out - whether the Chinese is written in TRADITIONAL or SIMPLIFIED Chinese.

We will be splitting up the files into 2 Categories:

- Chinese (Mandarin) - Traditional
- Chinese (Mandarin) - Simplified

That way, it's clear only Mandarin files are meant to go there, and you have to choose whether it's traditional or simplified when you're uploading.

I think that should solve the problem!

Thank you KL  ! your idea is simply perfect - that will definitely solve big part of the problem - now if we can get some help from the chinese parents and just add the trnaslation or word in English that will be great - I know sometimes to look for pictures can take longer - if at least we have the english word each one of us can configure out and use it as needed.

Thanks

Gloria

Hi JOha,
It's simplified Chinese.
Regarding to our other post, my husband had found a mic for me fr the storeroom, but I don't seem to get it to work Sad But the problem might be me and not the mic and now I hardly have chance to get him to show me how to make it work as he comes home very late. But don't worry I will translate most of the Eng presentation that I flash to my son to Chinese in the near future. Once I flash the English presentation to my son, I want him to learn the Chinese as well. And I will need your help with Spanish :0 I had talked to the teacher at the school, she said it's good to expose them to multi languages and at this stage is more for them to hear the tune of the language rather than learning every word. So when they grow up if they want to learn that language it will be a breeze for them as their ear are tuned to the tone of that language. I hope you get what I mean?? And the teacher said the most effective way is to use the same pic to introduce another language as out little ones will understand immediately. I am very excited by my own mini project but I need time to do it cos my IT knowledge is so so limited. My plan is to use the existing one that is uploaded at brillkids. And I will pm those owner to ask their permission. In order to let everyone understand, may be I will put the Eng small font at the bottom. Do I need to put hanyunpinyin?? As I don't depend on it to read the words and I need to check dictionery one word by one word to get the correct hanyunpinyin. And this will slow down my process as well.  Will keep you updated again. And I also need to figure out how to use the LR and LM and I am really slow at these staff Sad  Oh I will be doing the Simplified Chinese only.

KL,
I would like to check with u if I use other parents presentation, how to give half of the points to them as well? As I am only translating so I don't think it will be fair to them smile Please advise.

Thanks

luckymommy,

Thank you so much for verifying that I'm showing my daughter the right information LOL

Regarding the presentations, I think we have a deal  Wink I'll translate the presentation in Spanish and you can do the same in Chinese. Maybe we can figure out the categories we want to work on and go from there. There is another mom here that wants to teach her daughter Spanish and she offer to translate everything to French. I think little by little we are going to be able to expose our children to several languages. For now, you could download the one I did for "Parts of the Body" and start there. I just deleted the one for Animals because I need to fix the sound. As soon as I fix it I'll let you know. However, it will be much easier and less time consuming to do it in LR. I just got it and I'm also trying to figure out how to use it. I has created a file in LR Lite for family and the YBCR Starter video. The YBCR is in the library, but let me kno if you want the one for the family.

Also, let me know if you need IT help, I don't know everything, but usually I can find an answer, even if it takes me a couple of days  laugh

We'll be in touch!!

KL,

I actualy PM some of the people that had uploaded Chinese files. This is a PM that I got from Joanne_Hung.

I am not sure whether all of my files having the sound included. However most likely if I have include the sound, they are in Cantonese and those Word are Traditional Chinese and not simplify Chinese. Hope this help you.

Hope this helps a little bit once you guys start "classifying" the files.

The other question I had posted mmmm unsure ... somewhere...was if there was a way that the person approving uploaded files can check if the sound of the file is working. Some people want to do their best when creating powerpoint presentations and it does require a good amount of time. The issue is that sometimes because of issues in the sound file type or if the files have been embedded or not, the sound may not work once it is uploded. The thing is that unless you know how to check if the file is "contained in presentation" you wouldn't really know if everything is working properly because you are checking everything in your computer and the sound files are in your computer. Anyways, I could create a post explaining where to go and what to check, but the fact that I write doesn't mean everyone uploading files is going to read it. In conclusion, it would be helpful if the person that approves the file checks it and if the sound is not working at all or it is not loud enough, let's the creator know the issue. We go back to the fact that there are wonderful slideshows here, but if you can't hear what they are pronuncing in a foreign language you can't really use it to show your child.

I hope this was not toooo confusing or asking too much  wub

thanks for the tip about Joanne's files.

re the sound embedding, I think when we (most likely) implement a Premium category for PPTs, we will make sure we check it through.  but before it makes it to premium (which is determined by how popular it is among you guys), you should alert the user directly, or just open a thread about it so that we'll see your comment when deciding whether or not to 'premiumize' it.
