:-* I just wanted to ask you mommies and daddies out there this question - what category of flash cards would you like to have us do for you and your baby?  Would you like to see flash cards for musical instruments? What about flash cards that show the different months in a year?  Or how about flash cards that show the names of the food we eat?

I hope you'll be able to tell us what kind of flash cards you want... who knows, we might just make a download for exactly what you're looking for!

May I suggest a musical instruments slideshow?  And an everyday-objects-around-the-house slideshow would be great too!  Thank you!

How about the number dot flashcards? I saw them mentioned on the site, but I didn't see them anywhere.

Hi there,

That's a great idea.
While I'm not sure of the timeline that those flash cards will come out.

The Little Reader program has numbers that you can download and import into it for use.
And you can print those out just as easily!

Hope that helps,

Lawrence

Things that children will see outside.

Maybe some easy to read stories: Jane went swimming.  She likes swimming..

I also think that there could be files to download by level/ instead of category inorder to help parents who aren't sure where to start or how much a child can remember at a time etc.  (level one) 3 animals, 1 shape, 1 action

Yes Catherine, we have been mulling over implementing grade levels for the flash cards, but we haven't constructed a viable grading system just yet.   :educated:  But I do certainly agree with you, that we will need to create these grade levels, perhaps we will create such a system and implement them, and this will be in the very near future.

As for the number flash cards, there are ready-to-download Numbers categories in the Little Reader File Downloads section.  These come in numbers 1 through 10, and are available in red dots and blue squares.  The red dots numbers categories are also actually in the Little Reader default library, so if you have downloaded and installed Little Reader, you should already have them.

We are scheduling to release new downloads every week (for flash card printouts, slideshows, and Little Reader library add-ons) so you have something new to look forward to!  :-*  I'll get right on doing the everyday objects in the house, and objects children can see outside (would you have specific words you want me to include? PM me!)

yes, i know of the number dot cards available, but aren't you supposed to use more numbers than 0-10? I don't remember exacly how to use the system.

Hi nhockaday, I agree with you that we do need to also teach our children numbers over 10.  And for now, I made my own additional red dot numbers using Little Reader, it wasn't that hard to figure out.

I'm glad to know that they will give us additional library files to use.  After trying out the printed flash cards and then moving on to using the slideshows I have found that using Little Reader makes so much more sense - because I can add any word or category that I like just by creating them.

Excellent points being made by everyone.

Grading system - yes, definitely will get to it soon.

Short stories - yes, definitely intend to do that also.  Right now we are starting at the simplest level, and the higher level stuff will follow soon.
Actually, we are hoping that users will contribute sets using Little Reader to give us a hand in expanding the library.  From these Little Reader sets, they can also be turned into flash card downloads.  We are also happy to try to help you complete such sets you upload - eg., adding voice recordings, sound effects, pictures, etc if we can.

Numbers above 10 - yes, also definitely in the pipeline. It's perhaps  slightly lower priority right now because we are hoping to get Little Math out asap.  Little Math will make things SO much easier. I will write up a sneak peek of Little Math and Little Musician in a while.

Sammy - glad to see you creating your own already! How about uploading them to the File Downloads section to share with everyone? smile

How about vehicles? Like truck, car, boat, airplane, bus, dump truck, tractor ect...as a mom of a boy, I think these will be things he's interested in when he gets older.

These are all great ideas for additional groupings - I think it would be good to consider the type of words that kiddos typically acquire first.  The ones previously mentioned (around the house items, outdoor items, vehicles) are all important words that appear pretty early on in a child's vocab.  Also, I think parents often tend to expose kiddos to words that are in other categories (such as body parts and clothing) too.  If these were familiar words to kiddos, it would help with early direction following as well (consider: putting on a shirt - put your head in, now your arms go in)
Yep, definitely need to expand food items for sure  happy

I agree that it will be nice to "level" the word lists- as parents could easily get overwhelmed and not know where to start - however, it will vary quite a bit from family to family as far as what early words are valued - still, a basic hierarchy will be great.

What do you think of the colors being divided into two different groups (main colors - red, yellow, blue, green, purple, orange -- and group2 - for the others??)

Just some thoughts!

Yes, I agree with number dot flashcards. One more, how about body part flashcards. Meaning hands, head, hair ear etc... yes
