Title: Hello and welcome, from BrillBaby/BrillKids Founder
Post by: KL on May 27, 2008, 01:05:05 PM
Hello, everyone!!

I'm KL, the founder of BrillBaby/BrillKids, and also father of Felicity, the baby/toddler featured in the reading videos on the sites.

Firstly, I'd like to give everyone here a very warm welcome, and to thank you all for being here.

Ever since my wife became pregnant with Felicity, I've wanted to make sure that I do all that I can to maximize her potential, so I vigorously read up on all topics relating to baby intelligence, including prenatal stimulation and early learning.  I found the topics immensely fascinating, and soon found myself wanting to spread the word about what I had learnt. Hence the creation of the BrillBaby website.

Teaching Felicity was really fun, but I felt it could have been done in a much more efficient manner, and hence the creation of the BrillKids Little Learner series of software products.  I hope you all like them/will like them as much as I enjoyed creating them! We strive for perfection, so we look forward to receiving comments from everyone, whether good or bad, on everything we do here.

Hope everyone enjoys their time here and that your kid(s) will benefit and have lots of fun from our efforts!

Lastly, please feel free to ask me any questions, whether on the boards or via Private Message.

Best regards,

KL

Hello Everyone!

My son's name is Jeremy. He is turning two on October 26.

Thanks KL for creating this website.  This is very very useful.  I owe you a lot. Great job! I saw this site December 2007.  There were just a few useful information and as I recall there was only one video of Felicity. Felicity really inspired me. But when I visited again the site, it's expanding.  I've read again almost all the information here.  I found the other videos of Felicity. And great she can read the Cinderella book. Wow! It's really amazing.

KL,

O.k., I just found this thread and am putting it all together.  Now knowing that you are Felicity's dad leaves me with a lot of questions.  I'm sure we are all inspired by what you have accomplished with teaching Felicity and would love to know what methods you used.  What age did you start with her?  Did you use Doman's methods?  Did you modify the methods and make them your own?  How were you able to keep her interested and still in those I've just learned how to crawl and have to move days?  Sorry for all the questions but you are an inspiration and I would love to be able to do what you have done to give my little one as much of a legs up as possible.

Thanks for LR and Brillbaby!

Please, let me know if I can be of any assistance to you.

Thanks, Koala girl!

Actually, most of what you asked is discussed and answered here, so please check it out:
http://forum.brillkids.com/general-discussion-b5/teaching-your-child-to-read-share-your-experience!/
[edit - the above link won't work properly because of the "!", which we're fixing. Until then, just go to the Early Learning board and look for "teaching Your child to read - share your experience!" thread.]

Re how to keep her interested, we had a much harder time with flashcards, and that was when she wasn't even moving much! She loved YBCR, and even more so when we did our own word set printouts which were all customized and personalized - eg., all body parts shown were of her own or her parents. Same thing with powerpoint slides and the early version of LR.  I think what helps (as I keep stressing to everyone) is to have variety.  Don't let any one method (not even LR) be the only method you use. Use as many as possible, and ultimately, take the cue from your child.

hope that helps!

Thanks so much KL.  I hadn't read that thread yet and keep finding more to read  :).  Thanks for all the info. and for creating LR.  I just purchased YBCR and will start that as soon as I get it.  All this info just inspires me even more.
Best to Felicity and, of course, your family.  :clown:

Hello,

Thanks for providing this software, I have only just started using it after downloading it for BETA testing. It is definately a good idea, there are too few resources for babies. I work in IT, I used to be a software developer so I hope to be able to supply some decent feedback.
I found your product as I was searching around the Internet for Baby Flashcards. My son is 15 months old, I have a book of words and also about 5 months ago I printed about 20 home made flash cards for him. Then I found your software and promptly downloaded a whole bunch of powerpoint resources. Now they are downloaded I have them for keeps MuuuHAHAHAHA!
But more seriously... now I'll be looking to see if your software offers me the flexibility and simplicity that making my own powerpoint slideshows does.

Thank you so much for creating this site.  I think more people need to know about the potential that children all carry inside them.  I think you have done a wonderful job and thank you for making my life much easier.  It can  be very stressful making so many bits for your children and never enough time to keep up with the housework, social agendas, BIT making, reading the latest studies... etc.

So I truely thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Hugs,

MQ

Hello KL,
thanks for putting this all together. I am a homeschooling mom of 4 and paper flashcards are out of question at this point. I am glad to find a way to make teaching my little ones more consistent. My first two read Ladybird Peter and Jane series by 3 and 1.5 y.o. respectively. With the next two life got busier and I slacked off. I've been finding my motivation anew. Tx for a great tool!

Music always helps and something familiar to them. Mine comes running when he hears Fuzzy Wuzzy and Twinkle Twinkle. Then after he is there you can show him other things he is less interested in. Can some one help make some art work for Fuzzy Wuzzy? An artist I am not!

For Felicity, she is still to this day interested in reading, probably cos we established this habit and love for reading since very early on.

But every child is different, and has different preferences.  The most important thing is to treat the whole idea of reading as a fun activity, and never try to force them. When trying to give them lessons, try to make everything as fun and joyful as possible.  If one method is not liked, then try another.

One great habit you could foster is bedtime reading.  Start by reading them a story (they usually like that). Slowly show them what you're reading, and point to the words as you read.... etc.  Some children like video-based programs like YBCR and Tweedlewink, some like the computer-based programs like LR (esp the animal sounds), and even if they prefer to bang on the keyboard, at least it's a good start to getting them to see words and hearing them.

Ultimately, don't stress yourself over it - remember to always stay joyful, and trust that your child will learn over time.

Hi, Lappy and KL, and all the parents here!

Thank you so much for posting the downloadable flashcards and powerpoint presentations. I just registered today after stumbling upon this site through Google. Hopefully, I would be able to save up enough to buy Little Reader as well.  :)

My 3 month old baby, Ségolène Urduja, seems to be really happy with looking at patterns and pictures. I hope that even when I'm away, the nanny would also follow the instructions on teaching her, just the way I do it, too.

Again, thank you and more power to Brillkids!  :D

Hi  KL,

I'm new here. I have been using flash cards for my daughter ,11months old, from birth. Due to some problem I had to stop the flash card for a month, then I started using it again but when I started again she didn't show any interest to the flash cards. She didn't even want look at the  flash cards. But I am still showing her the cards. i'm afraid she will lose interest because i'm forcing her to see. Please advise!!!!!!!

Can I get the Brillkids product in Malaysia???

Hi ladydragon,

You can get Little Reader from any country so long as you have an Internet connection and a credit card! :)

Our products are downloadable, and that means you can download it immediately after purchase and be playing with it very soon after that!

It's always good to use a variety of tools.  If she doesn't like flash cards now, put them away for a while. Try other tools, like DVD's, powerpoints (check out our downloadables), and try out Little Reader on a free 14-day trial basis!

Hi KL,
I'm new here and have gone through all the info, but I still have a doubt, Little Readers is only consist of slide shows only. What about the  manual flash card? Don't they use it? I'm still confused with the method. There is no proper and detailed explanation on this method. My daughter is 11 months old and I have been using the Glenn Doman Flash cards. Recently she doesn't show interest on the flash card. She's not even seeing the flash cards. That is when I surfed the net and came across Brillkids "Little Readers". I want my daughter to enjoy and participate in all her sessions. Can you guide me through the problem I'm facing. Please help.

Post by: KL on July 12, 2009, 02:10:59 PM
Yes, Little Reader is played using the computer, so of course it is not "flash cards".

I think what you're referring to is the 'flash' method, which is rapid flashing of words, and takes advantage of the right-brain capabilities, as opposed to the 'multisensory' method which uses a lot of media and is played much more slowly.
Most people know the first method as the 'flash card' method because it used to be done only with physical flash cards.
You can read about both methods here:
http://www.brillbaby.com/teach-baby/reading-flash-cards.php
http://www.brillbaby.com/teach-baby/reading-multisensory-method.php

Little Reader lessons incorporate both methods, flash and multisensory.

You should understand that these methods can be done with different medium - physical cards, DVDs, or computer software.

Hope that makes things clearer!

Hi KL
You will not believe how amazing Brillbaby proves to be.  I am a new mom but not a very young mom really and I had ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE about early learning and early stimulation till i happened to ACCIDENTALLY browse Brillbaby.  Since then there has been NO LOOKING BACK. I only wish I had known about this MUCH earlier.  My daughter ANANYA PORTIA is just turning 1 1/2 is already knows every rhyme and nursery song you can think of because I had exposed her to the VCDs and audio CDs of these songs / rhymes. Since I am in the UAE, most of what I managed to buy were Australian. then I came across the prospect of downloading Youtube videos including the learn series, I was absolutely ecstatic and since then have made my own CDs (almost 400 downloads since then).
Then it was brillbaby which actually taught me the correct method and process of going about this including the Schichida and Doman methods.  I have EVEN MANAGED to get the CDs of YBCR (all 5 of them) from online.
But my main intention and focus remains on purchasing the Little Reader and Little Math programs.  I am purchasing it tonight and hope to install during our weekend in the UAE.

Nonetheless, I intend sharing Brillbaby website with everyone i know.  Thank you for making this possible.

Indira

Hi KL

thanks for creating this software. Save a lot of trouble especially for lazy parents. Oops! Haha...

Anyway, I'm wondering for the flash card section, if my kids are not attentive as they're wondering about, should we forced them to concentrate or to replay if they didn't watch it? Or should we just skip to the next section no matter what?

When my kids are not attentive, sometimes, we reprimanded them and thereafter they will cry and then try to concentrate. However, I thought this might caused a negative association to the flash cards.

Any comments? Any parents encounter such problem?

Thanks

Cheers!
KC

We definitely do not recommend forcing your kids to learn.

You can try replaying it later when they're more attentive, but it's also ok to just skip it. Some parents totally ignore the flash lessons and focus on the multisensory, and that's fine too.  You must remember there are no hard and fast rules to any of this. The most important thing is to do it according to your child's interest and attention, which may vary day to day, or month to month.

Thanks a lot  for creating this software which saves a lot of time for a working mother like me.
I'm using both Little Reader and Little Math since one month. My Daughter is nine months old.
I was showing printed flash cards earlier since she was 3 months old. She did not see at those flash cards when she became 7 months.
Then I came across brillkids and purchased both your products. Also Curious to know when Little Music will get released. Very Amazing products.
I 'm  teaching my daughter  both Little Reader and Little Math. She is interested in Math ( showing her quantity lessons).
She is not at all interested in Little Reader.  But I am still showing her the lessons . i'm afraid she will lose interest ,then how will I teach her.
and also have a doubt about testing her. When shall I test her about her reading and math.
Please advice.

After finally getting, My Baby can Read and finding out it was a pirated version, I came across your site. I was amazed at the information and amount of resources there are. Coming from an uneducated family and having experienced the difficulties of being uneducated, has by far made me realize how important it is to educate your children during the first couple years of life. And I'm SO EXTREMELY THANKFUL for people out there, like YOU, that make systems like this, to help children enjoy learning. I know I hated school when I was little, and unfortunately for me, it's still rather challenging learning new material. I have to repeat things sooo much in order to remember and understand them. And even then, I might not fully understand them... That's why, after learning about the Little Reader and reading as much as I can about it, I've decided that I DO NOT want my daughter to experience the kind of struggling I've had to go through. She will be a Little Reader Example that when given the opportunity, babies can and do learn to read by the age of 5.. Heck maybe even 1, like Felicity!! lol, I guess only time will tell... I've already gained so much knowledge about Early Child Development, and it's only been like 3 days! Can you imagine what I can learn in a month or two. Hopefully, we can figure out a way of buying the system sooner than later..

Thanks again for everything and keep on making learning FUN & INTERACTIVE for everyone!

Hello,

My husband and I came across your site while searching for learning materials for our now 7 month old baby boy. I was overwhelmed with how many sites there are to choose from when it comes to infant reading. However, after much contemplation we finally decided to buy the deluxe reading and Math kit. We are both searching for ways to make play time more of a learning experience. So far we have downloaded some of the power point presentations and “Little  A” is just captivated. We cannot wait to implement them into our daily routine. It is also very reassuring that there is such an interactive board to turn to for help and resources. Thanks again, Christina & Tom

Hi KL!
I'm a mom of 3kids and I finally found you!  LOL  As a piano/music teacher and a mom I have always been researching different methods for teaching little kids, especially since my 2nd child started talking early and asking me to teach him.  My personal background was with solfege but I was not able to find any material with solfege base since my family migrated to United States ( I came here as a little girl).  I'm so glad I found something that I can use with my 3yr old now and it's not too late, my baby #3 is only 18months!  I'm excited to try the program, I have not showed it yet to my husband and haven't had the chance to speak with him, but I think he will feel the same way.
Just wanted to say hi and thank you that you have done this!  I only wish I found you sooner (like at least 5years ago:)  but it's never to late, right?
I do have a question, do you have any teachers that use your program, I know that I would have parents who would jump on board (my friends and student families) for their kids, but as a teacher, I would most likely be interested in using the solfege part of the program for preschool age children in my studio as well.  I just signed up, so Im totally new to this, I did not even download the trial yet.  (I will have to do that with my husband, to make sure I do it right).

Thank you once again!

 Vera

Hi abc piano,

Welcome to BrillKids  :)   To my knowledge majority of the individuals using these programs are parents who are either homeschooling or just want to give their children a head start.

Your children are going to love the Little Musician program!  It is so engaging and has made learning music fun for my son.  Are you interested in using the Little Reader and/or math programs as well?  They are equally engaging and fun to use.

So glad to have you here on the forum with us!   If you have any questions on downloading the trial please let us know.

Take Care
Melanie

Hi KL! what a great idea for a site, I found brillkids last week after trying to find resources about Glenn Doman online - I love this site! You know, I have been looking for a site like this for a long time. I especially like how international it is and to connect with parents from all over the world. I'd really love to hear more about your story and how your daughter is doing! I guess I will have to browse the forum a bit more :-).

YAY for you and your work with babies and toddlers! I am just so glad to have found a community that thinks and wants the same as I do for my little ones.
I have a 7 1/2 yr. old boy, 6yr girl and 2.5yr girl.
I have been teaching toddlers for over 17 yrs.
I have been challenged by everyone I run into saying that you don't need to teach reading until later, when they are older. UGHHHHHH, I have learned by toddlers (not as much experience with babies) that they love learning at this age. I am struggling with my older two children to read and it just proves to me how much harder it is to learn when they are older. My 2.5yr old is loving my kindergarteners work. She knows more of the alphabet than her older sister. At this point in the school year, my Kindergartener is now catching up to her little sister.
What's different? I have always had to go back to work when my babies were 8wks old. I didn't invest the time I wanted to with them and thought the Montessori school they were in were covering everything they needed to be learning. WRONG!! When I lost my job, I lost their tuition to Montessori and I put the two older kids into public school. Both, were extremely far behind. This past year I've stayed home with my youngest and 5 other toddlers. I love teaching the letter names, sounds, objects that go with the letter, as well as all of the colors, shapes, numbers, etc. I have seen a dramatic difference. At this toddler stage, they just love learning this stuff! It is so fun for me and a delight every day! I gave my daughter the first session of your program and I am so happy!
I just wanted to give you a virtual HIGH FIVE!!! Thanks for all you have done to give us these tools to help our kids love to learn!!
Bridget

Hi everyone, I'm very happy I have signed up here. Since I joined all I have been doing is reading all the fascinating information presented and I have to say, I feel like I'm doing better for my daughter already. She is still little (5months) but she really enjoys using "my little Reader", she finds it amusing and it takes the stress out of me because I don't have to spend hours on the Internet researching 1 little thing.
Thank you very much for this great software development and the creation of this web where parents can share their own researches.

Hello,

I only discovered Brillkids a couple of days ago and now I would like to get started using it. My son is already 16 months so I am feeling like I have done him an injustice by not knowing about this wonderful way of teaching sooner. I am trying to decide between the basic program and the deluxe. The price of shipping right now is what has stalled me!

Thank you KL for providing us parents with a way to get our kids education started early and in such a structured way.

Hi everyone
I am 30 years old, I am a Senior Manager in a big company and it is my nature to be skeptical about new things. On the other side, I am a space scientist and I really believe in research.
When I heard about HGH I was very interested, I realized there were many products available. I read a lot about them. I decided to visit https://newyork.hghtherapydoctor.us/ (https://newyork.hghtherapydoctor.us/) to see the difference. And it was enormous :wut:
Therapy gave results I couldn't believe in.
Now I can tell you that the very first day I slept so well I felt like a child when I woke up. At that time I weighed 101 kg (222 lb) and after the first bottle I lost 7 kg (15 lb) and I started to feel as never before.
