Little Reader 2.0 [BETA] comes with many new and previously unreleased features, and we're excited to let an exclusive list of members try them out in advance!   (Check your email to see if you've been selected as a beta tester!)

For those of you who received the invitation email, join the Little Reader 2.0 [BETA] Bug Hunt and get 500 points for every unique bug you report! By the end of the Bug Hunt, we'll pick out the best beta tester and give an additional 1,000 points!

NOTE: The Little Reader 2.0 [BETA] Bug Hunt is open only for a selected group of Little Reader users.


How to join the Little Reader 2.0 [BETA] Bug Hunt
To join the Bug Hunt, there are only three things that you need to do:

• Get your Little Reader 2.0 [BETA] from your BrillKids Account. If you're already a Little Reader user, just visit your Account Management page and go to the "Little Reader v2.0 [BETA]" tab to download your Beta software installer and curriculum content files.
  
  NOTE: You may create a backup of your created, customized, or downloaded lessons using Little Reader's Export function before installing Little Reader 2.0 [BETA].
   
• Install Little Reader 2.0 [BETA]. Once you've completely downloaded your Beta software installer and content files, the next thing you need to do is to install Little Reader and import your curriculum content. The curriculum content you'll be downloading is an updated version of your current curriculum – we've added the new LR 2.0 playback settings, fixed content problems and added some new media files!
   
• Use Little Reader and try to find as many bugs as you can! Continue using Little Reader as you usually do with playing your child's lessons, and try exploring as many features as you can. There is no limit on how many bugs you report, so for each unique bug you report you can get 500 points!

The Little Reader software you are about to install is a BETA build. This means you might encounter a few bugs along the way. This is exactly why we're doing a Bug Hunt, so we can iron out all these issues before we finally launch Little Reader 2.0to the general public!


How to report a bug
When you spot a bug:

• Reproduce the bug by re-tracing your steps and see if the same thing happens. It is important that the bug you find can be repeated, or that the same thing will happen when anyone else tries to re-do your steps.
   
• Take a screenshot showing the bug you found. This is not required, but is necessary especially if you encountered an error message or if you are not sure how to describe the bug you found. For instructions on how to make a screenshot, please click here.
   
• Create a Diagnostic Report and take note of any error messages. This is very important – bug reports posted without a Diagnostic Report attached will not be awarded. For instructions on how to create a diagnostic report, please click here.
   
• Post your bug report at the Little Reader 2.0 [BETA] Bug Reports board. Make sure you explain what happened in as much detail as you can – what you were doing before it happened, what specific lessons, what buttons/mouse clicks, what other programs were running, etc.
  
  Bonus points will be given to those who follow this format. Please create a new topic for each bug you want to report.
  
  Subject: "LR 2.0 BUG [Title or short bug summary]"
  
  Message Body:
     - Explanation of the bug with steps on how to reproduce it
     - Screenshot showing the bug or error
     - Error message text (if any)
     - Attached Diagnostic Report (very important!)

Bug Hunt Details

• The Little Reader 2.0 [BETA] Bug Hunt will start on November 2, 2010, during the Beta Testing period. The closing date for the Beta Testing Bug Hunt will be announced soon.
   
• BrillKids Forum administrators (KL, Lappy, and Kezia) will award 500 points to every Beta Tester who reports a unique bug in the required format (as described above). A "unique" bug means it's the first time that this bug was reported for LR 2.0 [BETA]. Any bug reports describing previously-identified bugs will not qualify for bonus points.
   
• By the end of the Bug Hunt, we'll pick out the best Beta Tester and give him/her an additional 1,000 points!

Hi Lappy,

I don´t know if it is a bug or only my mistake but the files (curriculum) have been downloaded to my computer and when I double-click on the files to open them, LR doesn´t import them. Windows only opens the files as folders. Maybe I missed a step. My mistake?

To Gilma and efmumsgirl,

Are you using Internet Explorer, by any chance? It may be that your download problem (especially for content files) is caused by an IE bug -- our initial advise would be to re-download your files using another browser (like Firefox).

i used mozilla.. now i've uninstall my LR bcoz i've cannot used my LR already.. i juz install LR 1.6 only.. i'm afraid if i install the 2.0, it will damage my LR.. but i'll try to install it again.. at last, i can use LR 2.0... the picture, the words are more bigger than before.. i like it.. but i've already lost all my dwldable categories... it's ok.. i'll will upload it again.. anyway.. thanks..

Yes. That solved the problem with the files. I have imported the curriculim to my new LR 2.0. I will start to try it.

@efmumsgirl: Yep, you can just try importing your downloaded files again, sorry about that! It's not meant to happen, though, so you can possibly send this in as a bug report.

i was in category action words 1 that i'd added words to. i had a few sound problems/sound being late. words not being there only black arrow....then total crash. white screen with x across it error message / your standard report a problem create system report. i click send report i think then screen gone left with screen with red x.  not able to send report or screen shot i had to shut down.
 also the arrow speed wasn't consistent with the words. very strange. i'm just wondering if it's supposed to be auto matched to our audio?? might be time consuming/frustrating if we have to manually do this.

Hi ExtremeBartendingDad,

The pointer speed depends on the length of the audio file, and it should run smoothly. Have you tried the Sound Wizard -- it's one of the new Support tools in LR 2.0.

You can find this in Tools > Support Tools (or in Support > Support Tools). Click on the "Launch Little Reader Support Tools" button, and in the window that opens choose "Sound Problems?" Just follow the prompts there and see if your sound problem gets fixed.

We have uploaded a newer Beta version, and you can re-download from your Account page's BETA tab to get it. Please re-download and install that one and you should find that most of the previously-reported bugs/errors have been fixed.

The LR 2.0 versions of the content files have been updated as well, so you may want to re-download and import those.
