FAQ: Flash Mode Settings

Flash mode settings can help you when you are delivering flash card method lessons. The flash mode settings can only be used when you are in “Word only (Flash)” or “Picture only (Flash)” playback mode. The settings available include:

Next Page Preview – places the word in the next slide in the right bottom corner of the screen. This allows you to know what is coming up ahead of your child (especially useful if you have chosen to playback words in a random order), so you can say the word out loud as the slide flashes.

Current Page Subtitle – is only available for the “Picture only (Flash)” mode. It places the corresponding word to the picture on the screen in the bottom center of the page, so you know what to read aloud to your child.

Preview Text and Subtitle Font Size – changes the font size of the preview text and subtitles.

Picture Audio – changes all sound effects that usually play with the images, to pronunciations.

To Change Flash mode Settings:
    1.   Click the Playback button.
    2.   Check the top right hand column (in the Playback mode panel) to make sure that you are either in “Word only (Flash)” or “Picture only (Flash)” playback mode.
    3.   Click on the Flash Mode Settings button.
    4.   In the window that has opened, find the settings and check or uncheck the purple boxes that you prefer.
    5.   To change the font size of the preview text and subtitles, click on the number and chose from the list of sizes available. Look at the box below for a preview of how big the font will be.
    6.   When you have changed to the preferred settings, click OK.

I remember the "Next Page Preview" function from when I initially started using Little Reader and have been trying to turn it back on today without any luck. Then I read this handy tip and noted that the next page preview only works for "Word only (Flash)" and "Picture only (Flash)".

I love using "Word, Media" with my 11 month old son, probably because I have had great success with YBCR and my daughter and I am most familiar with this style.

Is it possible for you to add the "Next Page Preview" to the other playback modes?

Of course you might need to change the name from "Next Page Preview" to "Next Word Preview".

Why would you want next page preview for Word, Media mode? Are you flashing it rapidly too?

Can we add subtitles or next page preview for Word, Media mode for the current version?
Can I adjust the speed of the slide to even faster?

I think the current version doesn't allow it, but the coming v1.5 will allow it.  v1.5 will also have a speed slider like LMt that includes a -0.2sec delay option which means you can make it go faster than currently.
