Tips on Recording Your Voice
(1/1)
KL:
You may be surprised that you don't need a professional set up to get a decent voice recording.
What is essential are:
1. A decent mic (doesn't need to be expensive, but not the cheapest ones), probably easiest if USB to connect easily to your computer.
2. A completely silent recording environment - This means no air con, no fan, no heater, or whatever that generates background noise. Shut all your windows. Yes, it may be a bit uncomfortable, but you need to eliminate all sources of noise. And that's also why using a laptop to record would be better than a PC cos PC makes much more noise.
3. Good recording technique - always best not to speak directly into the mic, but over it or across it. So even if there is a big "puh" or "tuh" sound, the air won't hit the mic (which would otherwise cause a "bump" sound in the recording). In a home environment, probably best to record with your mouth at least about 3-5 inches away from the mic, and try to keep the distance consistent. Also, don't have what you record played back out on the speakers as you record, otherwise you'll establish a feedback loop. Silence your speakers, or wear headphones.
4. Decent recording and editing software - Easy Voice Recorder (which comes with Little Reader) actually has all you need, including equalization (adjusting treble/bass) and noise reduction.

This is so helpful because I hate all of my own recordings. I don't think my daughter enjoys them either. But now I'm motivated to try again.
Thanks, Lori

I'd also recommend trying to make your own makeshift pop filter (it sort of looks like a pair of stockings stretched across a wire in a circular shape) because this will help you delete awful popping sounds when you pronounce the Ts, Bs, Ps, and Ds.
It's really quite simple to do, and will greatly help improve your sound recordings. :)
ketty rain:

Lappy:
Hi Ketty Rain,
Please try to go to the word's edit screen, and delete the recordings which you do not want to use. :)
