substitizing 1- 12 no sound

Do you recommend going over each number by itself, as many days as it takes until that particular number can be subitized; and then moving on to the next one?  Or do you just go over several each day?

At first I showed numbers 1-5 in order - one files in order - two files in order - three files in order etc.  My son could already substitize 1-3. When he nailed 5 consistently i added one more a day for a week or so. Now I show them pretty haphazardly. I might do just the number 7 in the morning but I don't show the files in order. I click the random setting in LR. Then maybe 2-3 more throughout the day. He is substitizing numbers to 7 fairly consistently. We also purchased large foam dice. We throw them across the room and then run check and see what numbers show up. It's been a very fun and physical activity. When we check them I say, "Oh, Philip has more dots. He won." Or "Look, mommy has more dots 4 is more than 2 see?. I won." He is pretty good at picking the patterns out on dice, cards, and dominoes. We aren't making a big deal of it. Just trying to have lots and lots of fun.

Ok. Thanks!  I think she can subitize up to six pretty well now.  We have been playing lots of dice games too.  Also she has been sorting number cards that I made.  It is really the first time she has shown much interest in maths--so a BIG thank you!!
