I believe the syllable break for these words are incorrect. "clos/et" not "clo/set" ,"ward/robe" not "war/drobe", and "cab/i/net" not "ca/bi/net". These break are for syllables to help the kids pronounce the words? I posted this before but I think it got lost.

Baby things "pac/i/fi/er" not "pa/ci/fier"

Cushion Things at Home 2 is also wrong should be "cush/ion"

Crayon Kids' Things is also incorrect. Should be "cray/on"

Orange and lemon under fruits is also incorrect. "lem/on not le/mon" and "or/ange not o/range"

Colors orange same thing.

Woman is also wrong in People, and People and Actions in 5 different locations should be "wom/an"

Common animals  2 "liz/ard"  not "li/zard"

Wild animals crocodile should be "croc/o/dile" not "cro/co/dile" . Elephant should be "el/e/phant" not "e/le/phant"

Food "sal/ad not sa/lad", "ce/re/al" not "ce/real","cook/ie not "coo/kie"

Wild animals 2 - "leop/ard", "cam/el"
These break can be found in the dictionary where they sound out the word for you.

Sorry, just saw this post.

Let me firstly talk about SPLIT MODE in general.

Split mode can be used to split words and sentences in whichever way you like, and this will largely depend on what exactly you are trying to show your child.  For example:

- split a sentence into words
- split a word into syllables
- split a word into consonants, vowels, etc.
- split a word to highlight special things, like "s" (for plural), "ing" (to show present continuous)

Regarding syllables, we had this debate internally as to how we should do the splitting, and we decided to go with what you see now.

Yes, it may be that the way the words are split are not officially correct.

The reasons we decided to abandon following such 'official' syllabicating methods are as follows:

1. From what I understand, there are different ways of syllabicating the words depending on which dictionary or standard you are using anyway.

2. We do not believe it is crucial that a child knows what exactly is the 'official' way of syllabicating (I know at least some schools that do not even teach syllabication rules)

3. Most importantly, we believe that the way we have SPLIT (let's not call it syllabicate) the word MAKES MUCH MORE SENSE to the child, and allows her to visualize the different syllables in a much more intuitive way.

You see, regardless of what the official syllabication rules are, I certainly would not show (for example) "cush/ion" to Felicity.  It's just counter-intuitive to me. I would rather not split it than to split it that way. Same applies to the other examples you pointed out.

So, after some discussion amongst ourselves here, we decided to go with what you see now.

If any of you would prefer using the official way of syllabicating words, then here are a couple of options:

1. Edit the words yourself (which is quite simple)

2. Give us a list of all changes you wish to make, and state the standard you are applying (for example, "as per Merriam Webster"), and we will upload an alternative set for you to download to replace the current Categories.

I would prefer syllable breaks, because I think it will teach the kids how to sound out words. I am working on some files to upload with syllable rules and examples. Being a native English speaker it immediately caught my attention that the breaks were not where they should be. I can easily change the words to the syllable breaks that I prefer. I did not realize that there is not a standard for syllables. If the rules for syllables are followed, I would think there would be a standard. If anyone is more knowledgeable about syllables and why their is not a standard I would appreciate some more information.

I will definitely use syllable breaks though. But it is something I am capable of changing on my own, unless there are others who would prefer this method.

I prefer the original ...... there are many different types of english ...... being native you being american or british or canadian or south african (having some friends who call themselves native english too)??

The pronounciation and spelling are also different for them. But then again in different parts of US the pronounciation of the same word also differs ....

eg Bush calls nuclear as "nucular" ... or so i heard on the news ....

Dictionaires if you use enough of it be it longman british or american again each is very very different ......

For babies its how to pronounce it properly and able to spell it subsequently from their pronounciation ....
