Now that we have a Premium Content section, most of you may be interested in how you can get your files approved into this section so you can start earning massive amounts of loyalty points.

The BrillKids administrators will be judging the files according to the overall quality of the lesson and content, but here are some specific points which we will consider during the approval process:

     •   Lesson Content (Mandatory)
o   Number of Slides - minimum number of slides are set to 5. We discourage breaking up lessons in small separate files just to increase chances of getting more points. All lessons must be standalone and complete in themselves.

     •   Pronunciation Files (Mandatory, especially for foreign language Little Reader files!)
o   Clarity of Recording - your recordings have to be loud and clear, with no disturbing noises in the background.
o   Accuracy of Pronunciation - make sure that you are pronouncing the word(s) accurately, to ensure that you are able to teach your child the correct pronunciation.

     •   Images  (Mandatory!)
o   Number of Images per Word - the more the better (recommended: at least 3)!
o   Image quality - the pictures should be clear and concise; it should convey the meaning of the word or concept well.
o   Image size - to avoid the hassle of massive file sizes, we recommend that you resize your photos to at least 640x480 with a maximum of 1024x768pixels. To learn more about how to resize your images, please see this FAQ.

     •   Picture Audio (Highly Recommended!)
o   Clarity of Recording - your recordings have to be loud and clear, with no disturbing noises in the background.
o   Accuracy of Pronunciation - make sure that you are pronouncing the word(s) accurately, and use this function to encourage your child to interact with the lesson.
o   Relevance to the Word File

     •   Videos (Recommended!)
o   Length of Video Clips - 2-5 second video clips to help demonstrate the word or concept
o   File Format - Preferably in flash (SWF) format for smaller file size. BrillKids has no video converter software to specifically recommend, but there are many good ones available for free over the internet.

     •   Creativity of the Lesson Concept

Apart from the pronunciation files and the images, the rest of the criteria are fairly flexible.  As always, we will judge the quality of the Little Reader file based on the overall feel of the lesson, and how well the media content reinforces the learning process.

We hope this will serve as a guideline for your future contributions to the Little Reader Lesson Library.

Have fun creating your lessons!

Cheers,

Lappy happy

Lappy,

Are there any of the current files in the LR from other people going to become premium? Or just the files that are posted from now on?  unsure

yes Yes, Joha, there is a possibility that old files from other users will be approved into the premium section - but these files will also undergo the same approval system and criteria.

We will go through the files which have downloads of above 100 and select those which will be ranked as premium content.

wow, having these criteria makes it a lot easier to find a great quality file. this was one of the biggest reason for me to purchase LR.

We've had a lot of feedback about wanting to be able to find consistently high quality content, so our re-design is done to make that happen!

Does it count for files in other sections (ppt, doc etc.), too?

We will eventually institute a Premium classification for those sections too, but not so soon.

If we update our own files, will the count of downloads be lost? Can updated files be re-posted in recent files as it will help others to see improved ones? smile

while I think that this is  a great idea of awarding only premium files with loyalty points , I think that some points should be allocated to people uploading their files.

To Justify my case , take an example of a file in a regional langauge , Once uploaded it will be downloaded by people wishing to teach their child that langauge but if it is not a very popular langauge, I am sure it will not reach the goal of 100 downloads and hence no points for the effort of this file . that will deter future uploader from making new nice files in that langauge.

Please consider that

No download counts will be retained.  We will only change the date if it is put into Premium, otherwise this change of date can be abused.  I would suggest if you've made a big change, start a topic discussion about it to highlight the improvements.

Problem with that is that it would also encourage low-quality uploads for the sake of collecting points.  That's why we want people's focus to be on getting to Premium.

Perhaps the better way to deal with it is to lower the download quantity requirement for approval.  We can do that on a case by case basis for each language.

Please consider that

Here is another idea to consider, if two people worked on creating a really good quality upload ( lets say I put together photos, videos and words; and someone else did the prononciation or prononciation and words, just because my prononciation is not good, so we will work with some one else to get a better quality file overall), would it be possible to ahve an option to have two different people as authors ( their screen names) and then when the file will start generating points, they would both receive points ( 1/2 each). It would facilitate cooperation and production of higher quality files. What do you think?

KL & Lappy,

Just wondering if there are any specifications to make a downloadable file. I feel there should be. Few files that I found have only 3 or 4 slides in them. The author marks it part 1, part 2, part 3 etc, with each part containing only 3 slides. Whoever downloaded part I will also download the remaining parts, so that doubles the download count and loyalty points for the author. Right now we don't mind as it comes free. But in future if one has to pay for a premium download, then I don't think we would want to spend so much points for lesser content. That simply isn't fair.

I feel a minimum number for slides need to be fixed. What do you all feel?

Questers.

I think that a minimum of 5 slides should be expected for premium.
