PLEASE HELP!!!

hello everyone,

i need help!!! my pc got a virus and needs to be reformatted. i have not been able to use my little reader for quite some time now. and i still have not redeemed my points for a free software coz of the problem i have with the virus.

does anyone know what i should do? im backing up my most important files but i dont know if i should back up all the brillkids files or not. im worried i might lose everything including the lessons i made lila...

please help! im desperate!

i don't know what to back up for the little reader or even where to find the files.. im a lil bit on the "technologically challenged" side    and would appreciate any kinda walk-thru's ...

Go to import/export. Make sure that it is set for category and all the boxes on the left hand side are checked. Highlight all of your categories by using the shift key. Then press export. A box will come up that asks you what you want the file name and location to be. Rename it something easy to remember like LR cat backup. Move it to a location where you can easily access it again, like your desktop, or an external hard drive if that's what you're using to back up everything.

After that's done, do the same thing for your playlists. Just make sure you specify playlists at the top, and rename it something different.

Now you will have all of your CATs and PLs copied, and all you will have to do is double click on them to get them to auto import into your new LR. The only thing is that they will not be in any order or any folders that you may have put them into.

i cant open my little reader    there are a bunch of errors. please see attached word file. i pasted the screenshots of the errors...

Wow, it looks like your pc is really messed up! I recommend using AVG free when you get your pc fixed. It's a free antivirus software. It's pretty comprehensive, and will protect you pretty well.

You can copy your whole Little Reader folder from the Brillkids folder in my documents. Then when you download the your new LR, you can just paste it in the place of the new folder, but that never worked for me. I would wait to ask Shuki or Lappy what to do. Unfortunately, they may not be on for a day or so since it's the weekend.

my pc is to be reformatted tomorrow    and im wondering if ever all of my brillkids stuff gets deleted, and i decide to use my points to get the software, will there be any problem?

What do you mean?

Is it impossible to redeem you points and install LR now? If you did, you would be able to copy everything. Then you could still install it again once your pc is fixed using the same license key.

If there is no way that you can install it now, then go ahead and copy the whole Little Reader folder that is found in my documents>Brillkids. After you copy it, move it to wherever you are backing up your stuff. Lappy or Shuki will help you one you get your pc fixed.

ok i think i'll just copy the brillkids file in my documents and back it up. i wont attempt to redeem my points right now while the pc is still actin up. im too scared    something might go wrong. so i will just wait til it is reformatted then i will redeem my points to get the software.

thanks so much for helping me out! its been such a long time since i've had lessons with my baby because of the problem with my pc, i'm worried she might lose interest.

Sorry I didn't catch this message sooner!  Next time if you have Little Reader problems do post them in the Little Reader Bug Reports forum and it will definitely be answered promptly

First of all I'm sorry to hear about your computer viruses, they are very difficult to remove most of the time

In order to backup your Little Reader files, first make a copy of your entire My Documents\BrillKids folder and put it somewhere safe (an external hard drive, or a USB memory stick, for example).

Also, what version of Little Reader did you have installed?  Was it a beta version?  If you can remember that will help greatly for us to form a solution for you

Oh, and I also recommend AVG Antivirus, i use it on all my home PCs.  Do a Google search for "Avast" and you'll find it!
