translating LR lesson into another language

Hi,

I wanted to have an English set and a Vietnamese set so I used the clone course function to clone semester 1 then I edited lesson 1 of this clone copy by overwriting the default audio with my new recording. I also replaced the english text with the language I want to teach my child: Vietnamese language. I made sure to name the new audio with a different name ...then save. ( There was no Save As )  Tested all looked good except the original english semester 1 now also displays the lesson in vietnamese language? Please advise. I have latest version. Thanks,

i would like to give the lessons also in Dutch and Russian. Practically, I would like to show session 1 in English, then session 1 in Dutch, then the same thing in Russian.

I have no idea how to begin doing this!

Is this also what you are doing with your kid? Where can I find this clone function?

I'm no expert, but I'm going to explain the way I understand it.

When you clone a course, you create a new course with exactly the same properties as the original, (except for the name) and from here you can edit the COURSE, that is things like # of repeats per slide, sequence of slides etc.  BUT the slides that this new course points to are still the exact same slides that the old course points to, so changing the new course's slides is like changing the old one's slides.

If you want to make a course in a different language, then you'll have to translate and "save as" each of the slides, create new categories and create a new course using the new categories instead.  (Or at least, this is the only way I know how to do it.)

You are right, the audio file should have a new name, but remember the new slide should also have a new name, and you'll have to put your Vietnamese slides in categories of their own, make sure their not mix in with the English categories.

That's exactly how you would make a course. One can't just translate the original courses directly (because these courses are key-locked). The best way to do it is:

1. Edit the Categories individually, make to to SAVE AS so they don't override the original course.
2. Put these translated Categories into a Course and just edit the settings as you like.

Hi everyone!

As I am studying Arabic, I am having a challenge learning the verb conjugations for each tense, and want to use LR to help me with, as well as a teaching tool for the girls.

How can I convert the English curriculum to Arabic?  Am I understanding that I can 'clone'/copy it and then change it to the language I want? 

According to this, "By creating your own course, you can simply take Categories that you like, and have them auto-generated into a day-by-day curriculum without having to plan out what is shown every day.":

What is the schedule used to generate the 'day-by-day curriculum'? 

And I remember that a LR Arabic edition was in progress, but was it completed?  How can I obtain a listing of the verbs used in the English curriculum, please, in order to convert them to the various conjugations in Arabic?  And I also want to compare the verb list to a list of the most common Arabic verbs that I found.  And is there a noun and adjective list for the LR curricullum, please?

Last, but not least, how can I type in Arabic within LR?  It currently only lets me type in English, even if I choose Arabic from the Windows language toolbar?

If you are trying to translate the first trimester lessons. Don't worry: it's done  . I haven't added the sound to all the presentations yet but I will isA. Unfortunately, my son is not interested anymore by those and enjoys my handwritten index cards much more. He is learning from them much faster as well. That's why I haven't finished translating everything. I am planning to do it for the next baby isA as I am now expecting 

I usually type the Arabic text in another software with tashkeel, then I copy/ paste to LR.  There is always a problem with two words slides as for some reason they appear in the wrong order even when I check the right to left box. So I have to type them accordingly or add more space between the words. It's just weird 

For the phonics files , where I color coded the tashkeel (a sort of homemade Q'aida Noorania customed to read general books), I prepare PPT slides, then save them as pictures and add them to LR using the "picture only" mode. It takes a long time... but I like them (unlike my son    )

I think we'd better exchange the files, that will save precious time

Hmmm - I am thinking to work on the present tense (active voice) verb conjugation using Classical Mommy's 'Arabic Verbs 1' ppt as a guideline, while I prefer these meaningful sentences as found in page 12 of this pdf:

Or I may do two contrasting pronouns/verbs, as done in Classical Mommy's Arabic Verbs 1 ppt, and in this video series:

And then the 'pattern's will become more obvious, and then referencing a table makes more sense.  I also want to use all tashkeel, and then simplified tashkeel, sort of like training wheels on a bicycle, until sarf can be studied and mastered as later stages for both my children and myself. 

What do you think?  Can we work together on this, please?
