My son learned his colors and shapes with their DVDs. We will be starting the letters soon. We sit together, watch and learn.

TMT why would you say they flashcards are worth the investment? Becouse of the pictures?
I have been considering buying their books and now I do not know what would be better to buy

I was wondering the same thing about the flashcards also.
I have some of the DVDs and books, my son loves them both. He learned his colors and shapes so easily with the DVD and we reviewed them with the books. I only have one set of flashcards and they are for sight words, so we have not used them yet. The flashcards are sturdy but my son does not like flashcards right now.

In general, the DVds are better than nothing of course but IMO the more you "layer" the learning and reinforce in a slightly differant way, the faster they get it. I found the flashcards helpful for alphabet and sight words especially, I have not tried any of th new phonics flashcards they may have out. And my kids LOVED the ABC book. Well we bought nearly everything, from coloring books to the easy readers. But reinforcing the DVD's with extra materials  just makes it "go faster." I even made some for meet the numbers. I could probably send the electronic files  to whoever wants them. I took screen shots and then added plain numbers on the backs of the flashcards in matching colors by using photoshop, and then added velcro dots to help teach quantity a la jones geniuses. I beleive the same to be true with any other learning system too, like signing time. Investing in the flashcards/books really deepens the impact and if you are able to get the whole set, do so because they will simply learn faster.

Out of curiosity, do you think Meet the Colors, Shapes and Numbers are worth the investment as LR teaches colors and shapes, and numbers are taught by LM?

If anyone has an iPad or an iPhone the apps are only 99c. I had the first sight word video and my son learnt the first set of sight words from that. And he learnt the 2nd and 3rd set from the apps.
I needed up preferring the apps because it reduced his screen time and he learnt them faster by interacting.

We have two of their apps but I find then too slow for my dauhter. She likes to play with them but I would not use it as a main source. Even the DVDs are slow. Don ´ t you find them slow? She would sit and watch but I can see in her face that she is not having fun even thoug she likes what she sees. If I had the correct pronunciation I would play it faster for her

The writing and the picture in their books apear on the same page on the iPad. I have already bought one and this put me off as I was looking for RB type of books.

It looks like the books and the flashcards would be the option for us as I can further use them in preschool with other children.

My son had not been exposed to screen time when we were doing the DVDs so it was entrancing for him. And he loved the apps because he could select the right or wrong answers himself.

It was one of the first DVD series my kids ever watched besides baby signing and YBCR, so they were in love with these. Depending on the child, you might be able to get away with just the app. They are very slow, but at the time my kids were young and didn't mind, my son loved the app's too and I probably let him play them long after I should have. He just enjoyed them a lot.

If you were going to save money, I'd say skip the shapes, colors, numbers and teach that through LR, but my kids really loved them all. Now that I have been doing this a while, I might even consider teaching alphabet and numbers with The TV Teacher because it reinforces handwriting from the very beginning, uses example words, and practices counting. Even so, if you were starting with a baby between 8-14 months or so, it still might be more age appropriate and child friendly to go with Preschool Prep. I was really impressed how quickly my kids learned from the materials though.

Oh, and I wanted to say that my MTN flashcards are in photoshop format at the moment, so unless I can re-save them another way, they probably won't be of much use to anyone here after all.
