Dr Jones will be doing a presentation / demonstration  Sept 7th 2pm Central of our online classes with some of our students followed by a question & answer session.
This will give you a good idea of how our classes work leading on from our Early Learning ... Level 3 thru Level 7
This is aimed at parents who have children who are ready to move on from Early Learning or have already done so.

I've got to run, but I just wanted to tell anyone who missed this second presentation that you missed something stellar.  I am astounded by what the kids were doing.  There was no way we (the visiting adults) were able to keep up with their speed (or even knowledge!).  I taught in a private school (kgtn and grade two) and there was no way in the world anyone would have expected this of our students.  The things that they (Jones) teach to children this age are not even introduced until later grades in traditional classrooms.  Wow.  If they offer another session I URGE you to sign up for it!

I tried to watch, but everything was conspiring against me - I was babysitting my brother who had homework, so I had to use headphones and the only ones I could find were old and so the sound quality was really poor and on top of that, my son decided he WOULD NOT SLEEP! Ordinarily, 7pm (gmt) is the *ideal* time, but last night it just wasn't happening for me so I missed out on a lot. What I did see was astounding, though

We are aware that timings do not suit every lifestyle, therefore have planned the next live Conference / Demonstration for

Cube root trick-     Any two-digit number cubed.

You only need to learn the cubes from 1 to 10 to calculate cube roots

1 cubed = 1                                      NOTE:  10 cubed= 1,000
2 cubed= 8                                                   20 cubed= 8,000
3 cubed= 27                                                 30 cubed= 27,000
4 cubed= 64
5 cubed= 125
6 cubed= 216
7 cubed= 343
8 cubed= 512
9 cubed= 729
10 cubed= 1000

What is the cube root of 10,648? Start by looking at the thousands, 10 in this example. 10 lies between 2 cubed and 3 cubed so the cube root lies in the 20s. See above 20 cubed is 8,000 and 30 cubed is 27,000. Next look at 648 and notice that only the cube of 2 ends in an 8 so the answer is 22.

What is the cube root of 405,224?   

 405 thousands lies between 7 and 8 cubed so the first part of the answer is 7. Only 4 cubed ends in 4 so the answer must be 74.

How does Jones Geniuses Math Kit compare to Singapore Math?

Which one do you think is more effective?

I'm sorry, I only wrote down three of the problems that they were doing.  More often than not, Dr Jones was talking while the students rapidly did the math.  I was listening to him and not really concentrating on the problems.  What I saw were all number problems not scenario word problems. 

The first one was 72 x78.  I only wrote it down because I wanted to see how long it took me to do in comparison to the kids.  Even though I majored in Math & Science in highschool, I'm no whiz at it.  In fact, I only did well in highschool because I could memorize well (then...now my brain is a little less effective with memory work...I blame it on baby brain, even though my son is 2.5!).  But I'm no slouch either.  I'd say my math skills are pretty average.  Anyway, some of the kids finished 4 or 5 before I was done...some of that was because I was still learning how to input my answers, but even so, by the time I had the answer on paper they had done atleast 3 or 4. 

The other questions were right as I was leaving:  What is 35 500 squared?  What is 45.5 squared?
The students were, I believe, between 8 and 14.  I THINK it was a level five class...but I could be wrong on that.
