How sad is this! This was posted on YBCR facebook page

FROM ALL OF US AT YOUR BABY CAN READ!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOYAL SUPPORT AND BEING SUCH GREAT CUSTOMERS!

For more than 6 years, Your Baby Can Read! has been enjoyed and appreciated by families world-wide as an innovative reading concept for babies and young children.

Regretfully, the cost of fighting recent legal issues has left us with no option but to cease business operations. While we vehemently deny any wrongdoing, and strongly believe in our products, the fight has drained our resources to the point where we can no longer continue operating.

To our thousands of loyal customers who have provided overwhelmingly positive feedback, and particularly to those who took the time to send written and video testimonials about the success stories of their children, we sincerely thank you for being such great champions of our products.

If you have questions regarding an existing order, please contact us at [email protected]. Until August 15, a customer service representative will be available to respond to your emails during business hours.

If you would like to purchase our products, you may be able to find them at www.Amazon.com.

My heart breaks for this company and all they have done to help parents with early learning.  This is unbelievable.  I am in shock!

Are you at any risk Krista? YBCR and MonkiSee are somewhat similar. Of course MonkiSee is better smile What is stopping these guys from doing the same thing to you or Wink to Learn for that matter?

I have been in a funk since I read this post.  I just cannot believe they are closing shop.  It is like Coca Cola closing down!  YBCR has done so much for this industry.  They have made baby reading common knowledge.  When I first learned about early education, it was through Doman.  I felt that if the world just knew, then they would be as excited as I was to discover this.  The sad thing is that Doman never did for baby reading what Titzer did.  They became a commonly known name.  Whether people were for or against it, they had at least heard of it.  They have touched the world with Your Baby Can Read ads.  It is surreal to think that they will be no more.  I am not very clear on why they had law suits against them.  I think maybe they made too many claims on their infomercials?  I think that is what they got dragged into court for.  Since we are small potatoes next to YBCR, I don't think there are grounds to go after other companies.  I know Brillkids made an infomercial.  I wonder if they are actively running it and if they have had any issues with the FTC.  If anyone has any other information, please share.

I know you had your baby, Waterdreamer.  Congratulations.  How is everything going?  Is Wesley a big help?

Krysta G I don't think you are at risk. I have kept a bit of an eye on it all as I have an interest. I am building a website and don't want the same problems.  From my understanding Titzer is in the courts because of claims made that his product WILL teach your baby to read. The idea that children can intuit phonics and actualy start reading from his program alone is what the issue is. He has claimed they can and many have just from using his program, now the courts have to decide if his claims are false advertising or not. It's a case of taking comments in the advertising completely literally.
Let's face it the reason he is in the courts is because his product is so controversial. Fingers crossed he gets a judge who is pro early learning or it will take this movement YEARS to get over it!
To protect similar products ( including brillkids and monkey see) it would be best to use the words " can help" rather than " will teach" Brillkids is very careful with their claims as you can see they leave all their advertising to our testimonials. I haven't used your products Krysta G, but it might be wise to check your claims..oh course you don't need to do anything at all until the case actually get heard in court! I think it's likely he will get a slap on the wrist and be told to change a few lines in advertising, hopefully that's all!

I am for early childhood education/learning. When I found out that YBCR cease business operations it got me thinking about brillkids. The question I have is will the same thing happen to brillkids that happened to YBCR? I just downloaded the little reader and little math trial. So far I really like it. Once my trial is up I would like to purchase both products.
For instance as of now you cant go on YBCR website to get info about the program. Some links on brillkids software refer you online and if the site was down what could you do about it? I would not be able to download more lessons, visit the forum, or ask question if i had issues with the progrom. All the thing I really like about Brillkids. I just wish for the best.

This just popped up in my Facebook feed. Seems something is happening, perhaps Titzer isn't giving up completely. What do you think?

Dear Your Baby Can Read! Facebook fans,

We announced last month that the company Your Baby Can, LLC was ceasing business operations. As part of the company finalizing the closure of its operations, the developer of Your Baby Can Read!, Robert Titzer, Ph.D. has decided to take over maintenance of the Your Baby Can Read! Facebook page moving forward. Your Baby Can, LLC is no longer connected or affiliated with Robert Titzer, Ph.D. or his company the Infant Learning Company.

We would like to take this final opportunity to thank all the Facebook fans for your support over the years.

This has just come up on Your Baby Can Read Australia Facebook page

A message from Dr. Bob Titzer:

"Dear Your Baby Can Read Facebook Fans,

First of all, I want to sincerely and openly thank each and every family who shared success stories here or elsewhere and I thank the customers who defended us while we were not defending ourselves. Some of your words of support came when attacks were coming from many directions and it made this time easier knowing I had the genuine support of so many families who have actually used the products.

I want to thank all of the former employees of Your Baby Can for their years of dedicated service while YBC had the rights to Your Baby Can Read from September of 2007 until August of 2012. These employees were devoted not only to their company, but also to the program. We had many competent, hard-working employees who lost their jobs through no fault of their own. I also want to thank the initial management team who believed they could make the world a better place by helping babies learn. Thank you for spreading the program to so many families who would not have taught their babies to read without your vision.
Finally, I want to thank the people who allowed our tiny Infant Learning Company to regain the worldwide rights to the products. We will stand up to the people and organizations who brought down Your Baby Can because this is much more than a business to me. We believe our programs provide some tools and some ideas that could help children around the world – especially in underprivileged areas.

Your Baby Can Read is probably the most-studied baby video in the world with at least a dozen studies looking at aspects of the program. All of the studies show positive results for babies who have consistently used the program. We will not be silent on issues surrounding early literacy. We will provide studies, explain everything more clearly, and outline the theoretical reasoning behind Your Baby Can Read. We will be creating websites with scientific information where parents and other interested parties can look at all of the data and decide if babies should be learning the written form of language at the same time as other aspects of language.

The Infant Learning Company is a small family company that flourished from word of mouth sales for more than a decade. Our little company is happy to have the rights back and we remain dedicated to helping individuals advance through early literacy and infant learning.

We are excited about the opportunity to communicate with you more directly! The next few months will be especially busy and we appreciate our customers continuing to help each other with personal comments related to their use of our program. We look forward to having Your Baby Can Read available again soon outside of the US, then eventually in the US as well.

Dr. Bob Titzer"

YBCR Australia is absolutely thrilled to have Dr. Titzer back and look forward to again having him visit Australia and pass his valuable knowledge and experience on to local parents at face to face events.

We will keeping all of our customer and followers informed nof any development.

Regards
Raoul

ohmy  I realized things were happening, but didn't realize the severity of it all, and especially didn't anticipate that it would come to this!!!!   yes, doman is the father of early learning, but titzer brought el through (written) literacy to the world!  thanks to this journey, i'm back in school wanting to get my phd now, so that i can have a heavier impact on educational reform.  ... there was a massive ripple effect that was created from us receiving ybcr as a gift when joey was 5 months old, and now my children's lives, my own life, and hopefully the lives of many other children, will forever be different - better - because we were made aware of early learning from titzer's mainstream marketing success. *sigh*

... so, i'd like to sign a www.change.org petition to try and help in some way.  maybe something that has to do with supporting early learning and titzer and all other el companies?  will someone take the reigns on this?  larry, you're great with words and you know him, are you interested in putting something short and sweet together?  hope you don't mind my putting you on the spot ;-)

and as for ybcr claiming that it WILL TEACH babies to read ... it does ... teaching, sadly enough, in no way implies learning by the other party, or else plenty of educators/teachers would be in the hot seat right now.  teaching just means that someone is imparting their knowledge, but it doesn't mean that the recipient will internalize it.  just look in about any school and i'm confident you'll find examples to prove that 100% of anything taught is (never say never) rarely learned by 100% of the student body.  *deep sigh*

so... anyone up for that petition?  my hope is that if it is signed enough, it may receive media/population recognition for the importance of early learning. i'm under the impression now that el is being put through the ringer by anti-early education activists who are mistakenly regurgitating old truths about the damage of early formal/forced lesson learning and who are more impassioned with jumping on a bandwagon than bothering to educate themselves about what early learning really is.

yes, i wholeheartedly agree that 0-3, maybe even 0-5 is too early for FORMAL education.  I've even seen studies show that formal classroom/lecture education isn't even appropriate for adolescents (and my guess is for humans in general, especially when compared to hands-on, experiential learning), but when very young children are exposed to literacy in any field (my definition of literacy coming from my buddy, dictionary.com's definition #3 found here: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/literacy?s=b, and being extended to include any field, like dance/movement, art, computer, etc) in an engaging, enjoyable manner, then who can deny the studies and personal experiences reflecting exponential capabilities of that child compared to his/her peers with regards to that field, and the positive affects it has on other aspects, as well (think about how we've experienced mentally stimulated children wanting to be active to engage more with their environment, as an example). *another sigh*

really, something should be done.  did i mention a petition, for starters?   Wink
