EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Curriculum for stressed out mother of almost 4 year old-Lesson Pathways?
|
on: May 19, 2011, 07:47:03 PM

I'll start off by saying I am very stressed out. I have a daughter who will be 4 in a couple months, and also a 14 month old. We live in England and they start school at 4, but we'll be homeschooling. I mostly plan on continuing our 'autonomous learning' as we have done since she was a baby, (we've done Doman and general early education type stuff). BUT she gets bored and most of her friends are going to school, so we need stuff to do! So I'm looking for some type of curriculum. But whenever I look at stuff online I get even more stressed out.
She can read fluently, and most curriculums include reading, which we don't need.
I just saw someone on here mention Lesson Pathways. I've checked out the website and signed up, but my stressed out brain is confused. It looks like a collection of links all over the internet that make up a full curriculum. Can I use this exclusively with my daughter and it will be all we need for now? Do I need to do any planning or anything, or just come online and start clicking and see what we do that day?

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Early crawler, late walker!?
|
on: March 28, 2011, 07:14:29 PM

We've done Doman stuff, including crawling track, from birth with dd2. She has done everything really early, like rolling over at 3 weeks, sitting, pulling up to standing, cruising, crawling on her belly from 5 months, crawling on all fours from 6 months.........but now she's 13 months and still doesn't walk full time! She walks a bit, and has done since 11 months, but still mostly crawls! We thought for sure she'd walk early, and we know it's fine and crawling is good for the brain and whatever......but have any of your babies done this early crawling but late walking thing?

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Other Topics / My friend's baby has Cerebral Palsy- is the Glenn Doman book good?
|
on: March 28, 2011, 07:10:13 PM
|
I was planning on buying it for them, but wanted to check first here to see if anyone has anything to say about it. The Amazon reviews say it's not a 'how to' but mostly just stories of other people and about Glenn. Is there another Doman book I should get them along with it? Does he have people using the how to read and math, etc books for brain injured kids?
I do Doman with my well kids, but no experience about it with brain injured.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Ideas for one year olds and 3 year olds
|
on: March 14, 2011, 01:17:31 PM

I have one of each, girls. We do lots of Doman stuff (like word cards for one year old, the 3 year old can read already), painting, coloring, messy play (like with flour or cornflour mixed with water), playdough, go outside (but it's cold and yucky so not very much), baking, obstacle courses, play with dolls, tea set, read books. I feel like we do everything there possibly is to do but I need to find more ideas! What do you do with yours? Or any blogs you can point me to? I already get ideas from Chasing Cheerios and Imagination Tree.
Thanks!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Can I use my bigger font word cards with 11 month old?
|
on: February 09, 2011, 05:47:59 PM
|
I'm still using the huge 22 inch long, 6 inch high ones with my 11 month old that I started using when she was 4 months. I have word cards I used with my older daughter when I started with her around 16 months. Can I use the smaller ones yet? I guess the font is about 2 inches high. I looked through the TYBTR book but it's always hard to find what I'm looking for in there!
The big ones are just so annoying to handle!

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Recommend a website like Starfall
|
on: January 21, 2011, 04:12:13 PM
|
I've been letting my 3.5 year old do computer games on Starfall the last few days and she loves it. However, she can already read well and I can't find much for her to do on there. We also did some of the math.
Are there other websites like this, with games for her to do, which are more her level?
