this is a neat site I think that it has a good variety of children and adults speaking and singing in French. If anyone can find a french TV thing I would love to hear about it my kids love watching tv in french, (we dont watch in English) thanks for the link though. I will warn you though some of this gets on parents nerves very fast so I would recommend short increments of this channel.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Music / Re: How to teach your child to sing???

I was a music major in high school. I lettered in advanced choir 7 times in 3 years (I was taking 3 choir classes senior year) I have an amazing voice and my mother can not sing to save her life. your kids can turn out just fine musically even if you cant sing. I believe that children can be taught to sing. I have not started Trebilina yet with my kids but will let you know what I think when we get there. My daughter is just starting to get excited about music and singing so we just work with her all the time. DO SCALES WITH THEM!! they can copy you and pick up so much. just doing do re mi is going to help a lot. if your child can sign look up kolay hand signs they are great to help children learn the scales going up and down. But the most important thing that you can do with your little one is SING TO THEM and WITH THEM all the time. make up silly songs in the tub sing everything you see on the way to the park ect.

I think that it is absolutly essential to teach our children that we are there for them when they need us if they are crying at a young age it is trying to tell us something (for more on that go to Dunstanbaby.com) But if we ignore their cries they actually tend to be more needy and lack the confidence to calm themselves. babies that have been held and responded to are much better at self soothing and learn to be independent sooner because they know mommy will always be there and it is not something they are still searching for. PLEASE HELP YOUR BABY WHEN HE CRIES!! it is a different matter when you know the child is throwing a fit but you also dont have the feeling of oh my am I doing the right thing when your baby is having a fit. it is when your baby is needing something and you are not responding.

These videos are the BEST!! my kids are learning how to speak french and this gives them a hands on bridge to help them understand what the words mean and that the words are the same whether they are in french or english. it is making it so much easier to teach them two languages when I can only speak english. The kids love to watch signing time and it helps them express themselves so much better.

Ok no more typing with the baby I just lost everything and I had a thesis going on here!!! oh well Short version Try finding people at the park or a church that you go to the speak english. I am trying to teach my kids French and sign language and am having a great time with that since I only speak english... I have found the brainy baby French very good and my kids love it. Dont know about the english one though sorry. we do not however reccomend the leap frog movies with little reader as it really confused my daughter. They have a dvd videogame that is called little leaps that my kids love it is all educational and in 4 languages. english spanish french and german. their toys and things are great but the movies were not impressive to me at all. We also started watching things together as a family in french if at all possible and that has been GREAT!! it really helps. Also you may want to look into hosting a foreign exchange student it is "free" in america you just give them a bed to sleep in and food to eat and they talk to your family in their native language if you ask them to. We had a great time with it. Anyway hope that helps and have a great time Good luck.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: Does anyone know what flash card method to use when teaching two languages?

What I have found works best for my kids is doing one of two things I am trying to teach my kids french but I dont speak it so it is much harder to teach what you dont know evenso they are picking it up amazingly... word in english, picture, word in french SAME PICTURE OR word in english, word in french, picture It is important when they are little to keep with the same picture so they understand that the word means the same thing in each language. once they get a little older it is ok to change it up if they are to the point that you can show them 5 different planes and they know that they are all planes then sure use multiple pictures. I prefer to keep everything uniform and avoid the confusion.

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Affirmations? are they really useful for young kids ? are we wasting time?

Let me say this People like to hear that they did something well. little people NEED to know what they are doing well otherwise all they get is told not to do something or yelled at when they do something wrong but nothing when they are doing Good They actually start acting out in the bad ways because they get a response from you. they need to know you care. It builds a childs sence of self confidence to know they did something to make you happy. How would you like it if we all just went arround pointing out everything you did wring and never what you did right you are eventually going to think that you are a huge failure and have very low self esteme. We need positive feedback to build positive children... Just my thoughts on this.

What I ended up doing is create a username for my children and I put all their educational stuff and games on their user name so they cant mess up my computer but they can still use it. They can not make any permanent changes to the comp so it is much easier. Let me know if that works. good luck.
