31  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Anyone do the Doman method HARDCORE daily? on: March 03, 2009, 01:18:05 AM
i just started  because I actually just found out about this whole system. I try to do it every night as long as my son will sit still and pay attention. I don't force him to do it. He turned 3 today. I work full time and m husband does too, so we only have the evenings and I don't want to spend the entire time doing slide shows. We go on average 30 mins - 1 hour.

thanks for the links, this is very interesting.
33  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Other Topics / Re: Etiquette Classes for your child on: March 02, 2009, 08:55:50 PM
I know my son is one of a small few in his class that say please and thank you and excuse me, etc. We are trying to teach him to ask before leaving the table but he still forgets sometimes. We are constantly teaching hi manners and he picks up on everything very well. It is all about repitition. I know eventually he will ask to leave the table. He also learns so much by just watching us and how well mannered we are to each other and to others.  smile
34  Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: Birthday Party Ideas on: March 02, 2009, 08:47:48 PM
Wow, Plan A sounds extremelt extravagant!

The first birthday should be small and simple with friends and family and a small cake for the birthday baby to dig into and get all messy!
35  Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: Birthday Party Ideas on: March 02, 2009, 04:47:26 PM
thanks!
36  Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: Does anyone make and use their own baby products? on: March 02, 2009, 04:46:24 PM
Ok, so the above recipe is for laundry?

What can I do to make soap and shampoo? Do you make those?
37  Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: Skirt or jeans on: March 02, 2009, 02:21:04 AM

I only wear skirts when I have to.!  Wink
38  Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: Does anyone make and use their own baby products? on: March 02, 2009, 02:12:51 AM
you use this recipe for washing your laundry and for bathing? Do you use it as shampoo?

I  have never made my own products like this, but for the cost savings I would like to try somethings.

How do you make your own wipes?
39  Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Birthday Party Ideas on: March 02, 2009, 02:07:42 AM
I searched the net to find birthday party ideas for my son's 3rd birthday party, which was yesterday. I searched this board and didn't find any posts on it so I thought I would start one and share my ideas.

He is really into cars and trucks so I bought a monster truck theme kit from Orientaltrading.com. It was only $20 for all the essentials.

I went to the local $1 store and bought 1 monter truck toy for each of the children attending. I blew up the balloons that came with the kit and tied one to each of the monser trucks with a thank you card that I made on my computer. This saved me time and money on sending out thank you cards afterwards.

I made the cake myself after studying cake decorating websites and lots of practice ahead of time. It was a monster truck running over a toy car on a "muddy" lower layer.

I had it in my backyard, so I made a sign, also on my computer, that said "party this way" with an arrow pointing to the backyard. I borrowed some orange road cones from a local company and made a pathway leading to my backyard so no one was at my front door pounding away with no answer.

The party kit also came with streamers and confetti for decoration. I used the dollar monster trucks with the balloons tied to them also as decorations along my back porch railing.

The kids played on the playground and with my son's toys in the backyard while the adults sat around talking. We served hotdogs which was very inexpensive. I just bought all kinds of toppings, like relish, chili, cheese, cole slaw, etc.

I am already thinking of what I will do next year and how to make it easy and inexpensive.
40  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: child skin care on: March 02, 2009, 01:44:32 AM
I think altheas problem is not on protecting her daughters skin from sun... her problem is what she will apply on her daughters skin to make it smooth and white again... (",) any whitening lotion you know that are safe for babies?

im using avent for my son but i can not see any difference... thats an honest to goodness reality... and its expensive her in the philippines...

Sorry, I didn't quote it the first time. I was asking where wilnie was from since they were talking about the whitening lotion. I see now where they said Philippines.
41  Products Marketplace / Product Discussions and Reviews / Re: Baby Babble DVD? on: March 02, 2009, 01:26:58 AM
I didn't have this problem with my son but my friend did. Her son is 2 now and still has some problems. She has taught him sign language and he uses it pretty well and now that he has just turned 2 he is saying the word and using the sign. He has a small vocabulary for his age but is able to communicate through sign language.
42  Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: what do you do to save money? on: March 02, 2009, 01:23:20 AM
I use coupons.com a lot. I also go to walmart.com and order thefree samples. If nothing else, it makes my shampoo, soap, etc last longer because I get 1-2 uses from the samples. I sign up at all the websites where I use the regular products, like huggies, pampers, lysol, mr. clean, johnson & johnson etc. They send free samples and coupons to me in the mail all the time. I am also signed up at some local restaurants that mail and e-mail me coupons for free items or percentages off the bill.

Once I make my grocery list I go through the internet and search for coupons for that product. Then when I get to the store I compare the price with the coupon to the grocery store brand and buy the cheapest. Harveys in my town runs specials on Wednesdays on meats and I buy in bulk when that happens.

I also take leftover vegetables that aren't enough to make for lunch the next day and freeze them. Then when I get enough I put in a pot with broth or tomato juice and make soup. I usually only add some ground turkey to make it a meat and veggie soup.

But when my son finally starts using the Potty full time, I will save lots of money on my monthly budget! yes
43  Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: How old are you? And when you had your child/ren? on: March 02, 2009, 01:02:22 AM
I am 28 and my son turns 3 tomorrow, I was 25 when I had him.
44  Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: Kitchen skin care recipe.. :) on: March 02, 2009, 12:57:24 AM
Thanks for this link! big grin
45  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Do you allow your kids to watch TV on: March 02, 2009, 12:54:39 AM
We do allow our son to watch TV. Mostly disney, educational or Noggin. Which is an educational tv station. Most time he doesn't watch but a few minutes of it and then gets down to play with toys. So I guess he isn't even "watching" it very much.
