we too use time4learning but i have found that in some children it sets them back with writing and thinking in math as far as writing but for some children it is perfect for them. we like using it when we can afford it. well i have some good news we have now gone digital homeschool online. we have created prek-12th grade digital homeschool content and the record keeping forms and tons of things for our homeschool members. so far it is going great. we even have an online grading system with tests, exams, and so on. we are in our trail run now so maybe by august of this year we will have it up and running.

I just bought the ebook montessori at home and i love it. we are using the montesorri method now at home and i can tell you that my 19 month old is counting to 10, singing her ABC and pointing out letter son everything she sees. we are printing items from the montessori print shop online and the items are great for making our own file folder and lap book items. thanks so much. and i will hopefully post some pics and videos of how we montessori at home with everyday stuff along with special made items out of wood. we have a friend who made us the stairs and my children love them. they will sit for hours playing with the stairs building and rearranging.

EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Re: Year round or Traditional school year?

There are some private school that school 3 months then off 1 month. But in our state our public school is off 2 months in the summer and believe me there are tons of reviewing at the beginning of the next school year, however, since that we homeschool year around we are off every holiday, bday, anniversary, and atleast 4 weeks throught the year or at one time and then we are off 1 week for November and 2 weeks in December. However when they are 'off' they are given assignments to complete. and ten we review then take our quarter finals. we according to some state laws have to do just like the school system but in some states you can do whatever. we have a grading system by computer that records and keep ups with everything it makes it easier to keep up with 30 students the software revels the weaknesses so some reviewing has to be done before the standardized state testing comes in April. the kids are by then so tired and stressed because so much content is forced on them at such a short time from January to April and grades do lack in between those points as well in most cases that is why we still give assignments for homeschool.

You can also use the thick sheet protectors as well. Some you can and some you can't but the majority of things do wipe off. I feel so guilty but we use tons of things over again to make our day and guilt a little better. I also use contact paper. turn scribbles into scissor practice, just draw lines on them and let them practice cutting, also you can make boxes or origami things out of the scribbled paper. my kids love to find things and glue to the scribbled paper, and I have seen others paint over the paper with white and draw again. we reuse our all of the time.

Life Pac and ACE and there are some others but these seem to be pretty well prices, but if you are looking for a more serious Christian view on things think about Sonlight Education, it's free, of course like I said the views are different. if you are looking for secular content then complete curriculum is my choice. A Beka is also well but more expensive then the others mentioned.

I homeschool children with our community outreach and then see them go back to school in the grade that their age says they need to be in however I see the school's inability to advance my child so I ask if the teacher could advance the work for my child in some schools they do have like an 'A' class, "B" class or 1 or 2 class that privately give work according to the child' level. I was one of the staff that modifed work to a higher level for students it was the same work just at a higher level as everyone else. the students had no idea that their peer was even doing differnet work for it was modified to look just like the others but differnet. however a lot of schools can not offer this due to the money issue. I also have found that student who return to public school get bored, doesn't due well because the level of content has already been presented so the failure to strife comes about or in other words the child doesn't want to try anymore then when the child needs to try the child doesn't. however i have had some success with some students going back into public school and doing well not advanced but well. I have a child now who was homeschooled for 2 years and decided that the child needed more social interaction however this costed the child to go back 2 grade levels in content, the child now suffers from failing grades because the child has given up. the child tested 2 grade levels above but the school couldn't accomadate the child's level so the child now is behind and is making some behavior problems according to the teacher so the parents have decided to return the child back to homeschool were the child can be advanced as needed and go to college at 15. I actual have students right now going to college and technical schools at 15.this is a hard choice for many to do. I couldn't tell you but make a pro and con chart and go from there. make a list of what your child needs and what the child has accomplished and her goals for the next few years and of course your families needs as well. very hard to decide.....

Recycle the things that you can and reuse them that takes some guilt off. For isntance if I print wrong or the ink is smeared then I allow my children to color or draw on the messed up paper. I try to reuse or recycle everything I can in the house for crafts and for school materials like cereal boxes make great game boards and flashcard baking. I too go through 'a tree' each week. I go through 5000 sheets a week or more.

EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Montessori teacher training versus being certified
|
on: February 18, 2012, 01:35:43 PM

Can anyone explain to me about the montessori teacher training course versus the diploma and or the certification. I am thinking about becoming a trained montessori teacher for our community outreach but I am just a little confused. I see training courses that offer international diplomas for 550.00 then i see teacher training course for 150.00 so I just need someone to help me figure this out. We do not have any one here in our area to train under and with 3 kids and 15 homeschoolers in our community program I do not have time to train under anyone or go to a place to study. The online programs that claim to certifiy you are pretty expensive for a stay at home mom and they don't offer any scholarships oir financial aid either. any advice or ideas? The state that I live in does recognize montessori teachers as regular teachers but I just need to understand how it all works, the levels.

Sometimes during the winter months this does happen it may be time to introduce hands on learning like cooking, playing games all day, computer time, visiting a relative, etc. Sometimes kids need a little break or transition time during the winter months. I have seen this many of times even in public schools. Find something like art, music lessons, something to do with the hands. Also allowing a relative or friend or spouse to help you during this time by temporarly teaching that helps as well. and if you don't have a reward system if you believe in that then that would help. we have a chart that is sheet protected with smileys on it onc ethe activity is complete the smiley is circled in. if there are 5 smileys out of 10 circled then a reward is given. the child has a choice of his/her reward like a favorite book, tv show or movie, play with a pet, or something the child really loves. mine are similiar to those but i added cooking time with mommy, washing dishes, race time with daddy, eating something special like a date with Granny, things like that. Just sort of of get off of schedule then when the anxiety leaves return to your schedule. and one more thought are you feeding him/her anythin g differnet or drinking anything different? is the child feeling well. sometimes LO's can't tell us what is going on. Mine will stub up as I call it when something as happened or when they have a bad dream, or if they don't feel well and can't seem to tell me. Of course I have 1 hyper, 1 laid back with no cares, and the other one excited all the time about new things. i hope this helps. Sometimes a little siesta time is needed as well. also boredom is another issue, if the child is advancing at a high rate then boredom can show up if the child isn't being challenged enough. try changing around the content a little not much to see if there is any reaction. just have to trial and error it some times.
