EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Removing game section in Little Reader
|

Since I changed my computer I can't do that anymore.
Is it only me, or the newer version of little reader has removed all the editing possibilities which we had a few years ago? Because I remember removing games and other sections and some things I can't do now anymore.
Or did they just change the position of the buttons?

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Anyone had any succes using LR only once a day?
|

Well as the title says... we have been using LR with baby, but only once per day, because there is rarely time for more during our busy days. Did anybody try this and see any success at the end? Just wondering whether we should stop altogether or really try to add a second session (although I have no idea when )

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Russian early learning resources
|
on: November 15, 2016, 09:08:45 AM

Hello all I'm thinking about buying Brillkids in Russian too but until we can afford it I would like to find some youtube videos or flashcards so my daughter gets a bit of exposure to the languages and I see whether she likes it. I don't speak Russian, I can understand a few words because I know other slavic languages, and I can read it veeeery slowly. I can't write at all. That's why I need your help What have you been using to teach reading and the Russian language apart from LR? Any ideas will be very welcome!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: Teaching addition facts
|

Hello, my daughter is a bit similar to yours but then, she is a few years younger. She can concentrate for a long time on things she is interested in, but won't sit or listen much in a classroom. She doesn't like going to sleep early, either My theory is some kids are simply bored at school. Maybe teachers can't present the facts in a manner they would find interesting, or maybe they are explaining things they know already (or they think they know). About bedtime, we simply accepted she was not sleepy so early and now she is allowed to stay up with books, jigsaw puzzless or maybe a calm cartoon. We are all happier with this arrangement Wishing you the best of luck and please don't worry if the teachers tell you there is nothing to worry. About rearranging the letters- maybe dyslexia? Or simply, she might have found the exercise too easy and was trying to make something funnier / more creative with those letters?

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / books and other materials for italian and French (toddler friendly!)
|
on: May 13, 2016, 08:32:33 AM
|
Hello!
My 3 year old has started to show interest in learning Italian and French. I used to speak both but due to lack of use I have forgotten and I am not fluent anymore (I understand both languages though).
So I thought about buying books / board books / something I could use to help myself and do things together in Italian and French.
I also found some comptines (French) on YouTube but I can't find many Italian videos cute enough for a toddler.
I would be thankful about any suggestions, online radio, whatever you can think of!
Thanks!!

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / How to start - we have a 2 month old. Specially foreign languages?
|
on: April 07, 2016, 05:32:35 AM

Hello! we have a 2 month old and we are trying to adapt Doman's program (How smart is your baby) but it requires A LOT of time!! And at this age she spends most of her time nursing as you can imagine. I have an older child, we started her with Early Learning at the age of 1,5 years, and with some effort (and your help!!) she learnt to read at 2,5 and started writing at 3,5. We used Little Reader in several languages, but foreign language and math didn't work out too well with her (maybe at her age it was "too late?"). So I would really appreciate your ideas for our 2 month old: what to do, WHEN (??) to start... I'd really like to teach her at least one foreign language, not only reading. And maybe math too. Thank you all!!

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: can you teach a 3 year old to write?

Thank you all for your encouragement and great ideas!! We will start with some shaving foam and a magnetic board, those sound like a lot of fun.
@Adaugusto, I think there is always a moment when you think you are going nowhere but then, suddenly, they seem to get it out of nowhere. I would give her time and try not to look too interested in her learning to read (so she doesn't feel pressured).
