EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: Red Dots - faults in free download files

Hi all, I have checked some of the files again. There are two files in the free download section. One (babymathdots) is in pdf-format there I don't know how to check it easily. The other file is Dots - True quanitites from Suteja in which the numbers 1-78 seem to be right but not over 79. I have informed Suteja already. In the first post I talked about two wrong files. Well, I have correct myself now. The file from DomanMon's website http://worldsbesteducation.org/math.aspx seems to be right. Well, it's best to have LM or you check the slides before using them. I have LM but my daughter doesn't like math but loves her pictures. So we do our math program in powerpoint now. In Powerpoint I can add some pictures in between the math slides to get her attention (I have read this method in the forum).

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Red Dots - faults in free download files

I have download serveral red dots 1-100 in free download section (powerpoint files) and found at least 2 of them are wrong! I mean the number of dots are wrong. You should be careful with those files.
I found a way to check it very easily without counting to 100 dots: go to select , there you have 3 options: select all, select objects and select pane. Click on select pane... then you should be see the programm counting the number of the objects/shapes on the current slide (the slide number is counted as one object, too).
I found that function today and am so happy about the discovery.

The BrillKids Forum / BrillKids Announcements / Re: BrillKids - Now BIGGER and BETTER!

First of all, a big THANK to the Brillkids team for your new curriculum. Especially the facts that you warn everybody about the coming price increase, it was really fair. I also think the price is fair if you compared it with other products.
But maybe for whose who can not afford it (or don't want to teach English but French or whatever), you could sell the old version simultanously for less price and without any curriculum.
Is anywhere a summary of the "Brillkids method"? How many words is shown a day? How often is a word shown a day, for how many days until it is retired, how/when repeatat. When do you introduce couplets, after how many days and how many single words etc. In short, the information behind the curriculum. Although I aware that every mom and dad can modify that in Brillkids.

Dear Joha, Kappasweet and Skylark
Thank you for your advices. I slept a night through it and now I can put everything better together.
In the second 2 sessions, I would not say that he performed the instant math and got the question wrong, I would say he did not do the calculation at all because he did not feel like it.
Kappasweet, that makes sense. I didn't think about that before. But I remember that in the Domans' book they mentioned it, too. They said the child only showed his/her knowledge if he/she wish to do so or felt like it. I will keep that in mind now.
Joha and Skylark, I will shorten the session to 5 numbers and equations seperately.. So maybe we aren't able to do the program as fast as proposed (because 9 sessions math a day is too much for me to organise).
I was afraid of not having enough time to go through the math program and that she will be to late for Doman's Math one day. I have read that DomanMom's Hunter have learned math successful in spite of he started late at almost 30months. But I was still afraid that my daughter could lose her dots perception ability sooner. So I wanted stick to the program and also with its speed. But know I understand that the most important thing is to get her interest, otherwise she seems not to learn at all or just very very little.
I still think I need to teach her the "higher numbers" above 10 again. But with short sessions and using ret dots instead of icons in LM.
Actually we have taken breaks from maths several times already since I often felt that she is not like math much. Now I am unsure about taking break again.
Recently I have read the free online book from right brain kids, there they explain why teaching should be joyful (Doman only said that but did not explan why) - because the right brain is activated/active by being peaceful, calmful, joyful, loved or in another word, by being in alpha wave. If they are angry then their righ brain seems not to get in the information properly.
I will let you know about our progress.
By the way, that would still be great if some of you could tell about your math programm story and how you overcome failures. The Math program seems to be more difficult to teach and to pass then the reading program. One reasing is it's more difficult to make math interesting all time.

Dear fatima786, We are in a similar situation like yours. We went until 50 and finished plus-equation (We use LM). But my daughter loses interest. I gave her some problem solving (with real cards) like chosing the right number and plus-equation. She seems to get it right by small numbers under 10 but not above. Now we are kind of testing what she already knows and what not. And we would go back and show her numbers from 10 on. I think the our key problem is to make math fun for her and to get her "concentrate" somehow. My daughter is 18 1/2 months and shoud be not to late for Doman's Maths. Did you test her with small numbers? Somewhere on this forum KL said that we could also do +1, and +2 equations. Maybe I will try to teach her on that way first - everything with Trial and Error. I would also like to know about success / unsucces of other parents who follow the math program.

I found this review on Amazon.com. Can you confirm this?
Bought this CD Rom for my kid but when we watched it together i noticed that during the flashcard games there were many spelling errors!
Some of them are: > 1. Dalmatian is wrongly spelled as "Dalmation" > 2. Yellow Habanera Pepper is "Yellow Habenera > Pepper" > 3. Safety Pin is "Safty Pin" > 4. Accordion is "Accordian"
I haven't yet gone through the rest of the Flash Em series but there are possibly more typographical errors as we keep discovering new ones as we go along. Ive already stopped viewing them because it just gets too annoying as I find at least one or two misspelled words in each set. For a learning CD-Rom, this is hard to overlook as it just shows that the makers did not even research properly to get the spelling right. Anyone who buys this may develop their photographic memory but wont even be able to spell.

I wonder why in EK Program we should teach only one fact about each objects each time. Why it is less effective if we teach all about a object at once (e.g. all facts about pinguins), than after a few days switch to other object of interest (all about ice bears)? - I think it would be much easier for us to do so. And that's somehow the way we went through topics at school.
I remember they talked about composition in their book. But I can still not make it out.
Graffjamie, are you going to ask/write an email to the Doman Institute? - That would be/is a great idea! If yes, when?

I'm interested in the (Tweedle) Wink Programs. Due to restricted budget I must decide between the products they offer.
To those you have experiences with their products, do you recommend the overview course more or the DVD set more?
Earlier in this thread you talked about the TweedleWink manual. I know it is very very expensive. But can that manual substitute the TweedleWink and/or Wink Overview Course?
Does the online course have subtitles for non-native English speaker? And one more question, how long is the Tweedle Wink course (and Wink Course) ? 90min? 120?
