EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / She is an early reader...now what?

My daughter started to read at age of 15 months old simple words, familiar words, everyday words, I used YBCR(your baby can read) and Brillkids.by age 3 she was reading story books,. by age 4 she was reading everything!!Now she is 6 years old and her reading tests say she has a 4th grader reading level and 3rd grader reading comprehension. She is reading chapter books, her favorite for now are Jeronimo Stilton's books .She reads while she brushes her theeth, she reads while she rides on the car, she reads while she eats (not allow to , i need to remind her to put the books away until we are done eating)she reads every free time she gets. she has told her teacher that she prefers reading books than going to recess at school. Well long story short, she is a great reader!very fluent. She is on a public Montessori school , her teacher is nice but she doesn't know what else to do with her, she is more advance than 3 rd grader from her classroom (they are mix 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders). I feel bad for her, looks like she is not being challenge and i cant afford homeschooling, besides she is very socialble, people person, confident and likes going to school. I feel bad because I feel like she needs to be challengue and she is not getting what she needs, talked to the teacher, she says that she is working on it (i dont see it, she is lying to me)talked to the principal , SHE is helpless...will work on it...bla bla bla. So I gave up! Any ideas how can I help her from home after school? any suggestions will help, thanks to all

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Do girls learn faster than boys?

oh yes!MY girl learned to recognized words two days after showing her, after 10 words she started to learn super fast she was 15 months at that time, by 2 years old she was reading every word. Now she is 6 and she reads a 4th grade level (she has been tested)! Just amazing, she blows her teachers away! By the other hand my son who is 2 years old doesnt read a single word and I can tell he is most focused on the pictures more on the letter, he still loves to look at books everytime but not reading yet.we will see. i am starting brillkids with him,i need to be more consistent now, just like i was with my daughter.

There are lots of good option online, you know that you can make your own lighting table at home for maybe $5? search from some idea on bloggers, moms put great stuff for their kids very cheaple, at the end you child can't tell the difference at all, if you paid $200 or $5, as soon as it works he will never see the difference.

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Do you let your child choose the time to sleep at night?

Well, I have a 4.5 years old that has to be in bed by 9pm and a 4 month old baby that has to be on bed at 8pm. otherways they become difficult and we all get stressed. I never had a problem with both kids putting them down. I try to be consisted all the time, also warn the kids 10 minutes before getting ready..in 10, or 5 minutes we are going to get ready for bed ok, so finish what you doing. Also it is very important that you do physical activity with them, dancing, go to the park, walks, your kids may not be tired to go to sleep?

I know what are you saying...but the only thing I can say is "GET USE TO" now that you are starting a new life you need to move on, once your child born you will find lots of friendly moms with kids and more things on common than older friends, it feels like something has broken and it wont be the same, but this feeling will go away! You child will fill every empty spot you have in your heart, you will be so lucky, you have no idea.
Once I got pregnant with my first child and not having family here ata ll, only my husband, I felt lonely because the friends we had went away and being honest it was better that way, they were single and without responsabilities, it meaned I had not bussiness with them anymore.
Now I needed to focus on my family and me!
No worries you are fine without them and you will be better once you get close to other moms and other families that you will find thing on common with.

Few days later after delivering my child, nobosy thought i just gave birth. I was skinnier than before, just like magic!!! I dont know how but it was like 1 week after. But I have to admit my whole pregnancy was very very healthy lots of fruit, veggies, water and lots fo naps. Now I am 7 months pregnant with my second child and I can't stop eating...its crazy I already gained 27 pounds, and doctors predict that my babys is going to be big.I am very into sweets and desserts and lots of back pain. This pregnancy is very different. I am pretty sure it will take more than a week to lost all this weight.
I am planning to breasfeed him just like a did with my first and lots of water and jogging.
Well I think if you keep a healthy live ,stay away from alcohol, smoking, junk food, and keep exercising you will be ok.

EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Re: Montessori madness

Well this is a topic that I will like to participate, I am a Montessori Certified Teacher (kindergarten). I started teaching my child on the Montessori Method since she was 1 .5 year old, now she just turned 4 and she is still being homeschool by me at home. I love it!! She will be going to a Montessori summer camp a week here and a week there (its so expensive) but I think she needs to improve following instructions better and this is the only thing its making me sending her to a camp. Because honestly I think she will get more stuff done at home than in a classroom with 20 other children and 2 teachers. I think my daughter is very independent so she will need few guidence or none at all, that makes me feel better, because I know other children about her age or even older are not on the same independece label. So make me relieve that she may not need the guidance teacher a lot, teachers can get pretty busy , special when you have 20 kids that are in different levels and they come from different homes with different actitud. I support 100% the Montessori Method but saddly there are some schools that have missused this Method. and they also charge a lot of money like they pretend being a Montessori School. Parents don't forget that the Montessori Method started with very poorly founds (almost none), we dont need expensive material to get the smae results, its true its nice to have the material and tools we can find online from these expensive sites that charge you a lot for the material and even more for shipping. I do order material I need once a year from this sites but I am saving money on childcare, otherways I wouldnt be able to afford it. But most of the time I have to say we use material from home,or my husband build stuff for us too (which is a great help, he is very envolve and a great support). I invite you check some Montessori moms that are blogging about different activities they do homeschooling their children at home that any mom can do too, without the need to spent hundreds of $$$$. I also invite you to my blog, maybe you can get few ideas and also meet other moms that blog about this Method. www.olivesandpickles.blogspot.com
