Thanks all for your support. i'm a lot calmer now, i think as parents we sometimes tend to worry a bit too much and forget about all the other important things we do. i love bonding with my child and spending time with her. she adores her books and LR. she is very willing and patient enough to allow me to read to her and i can tell she is having fun. i guess its just a matter of time before she feels confident enough to start sounding out the words.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / my daughter won't read!

Hi all, I've been doing reading programs with my daughter since she was three months old. we started with YBCR and finished it when she was around 11 months old. We started with little reader since she was 6 months old and recently I've been doing Daddudes flesch cards with her, on top of that we read books nearly every day. Because I was a working mum for the last year I havent been as consistent with her as I would like to have been, however she is exposed to some sort of reading nearly everyday. She is now 19 months and wont read anything. I know kids are all different and she will read in her own time, but I am becoming really demotivated. I try not to 'test' her but i'm wondering if any of this is helping. she is a perfectly normal child, her speech is progressing in leaps and bounds. she can communicate with me, i understand most of what she says, but she just doesnt want to read. has anybody had this with their kids? is there something i'm doing wrong? pls help

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: My 17-month DD reads never-before taught word!

Hiya Nadia- My daughter is not speaking as such, she babbles a LOT, I think it might be taking her longer to speak because we are teaching her two languages. She's quite independant, so she'll pretty much get what she wants (toys etc...) in terms of other things like food and nappy changes- I'll sort it before she demands it. I cant wait for her to start talking- one of the greatest milestones I think. But the other day, I showed her the word Clap, without saying anything and she clapped. I was overjoyed! but she hasn't done anything like that again. Thanks for the microphone tip- i will definatly try that.

Excellent- Well done to your child! and at 17 months to0, thats great news. My daughter is 16 months and is not yet speaking, i've been teaching her how to read since she was 6 months old. i've tried to 'test' her a couple of times before, but no luck. Reading things like this is inspirational...reminds me to hang in there and let her take her sweet time. congratulations again.

Hi Ayesha, I downloaded it from the link you sent to my hotmail. That seemed the easiest. How long have you been doing the arabic alphabet with your daughters...any progress yet? please do let me know. I absolutley love this website, not only I because I get to discuss with like minded parents regarding the importance of early education. (unfortunatley a lot of my friends are very sceptical despite all the evidence available) but more importantly I can use these resources to teach Nawaal about Islam.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Doman Method Schedule - Adjustments for Arabic Vowel Patterns

hi Ayesha, sorry for the very late reply, i've been extremely busy unfortunatly . (just started a new teaching job- after a blissfull, wonderful, exhilerating year out) um yes i do have the Little Reader, i've been using it with Nawaal for about three weeks now, prior to that she was watching the YBCR dvds about once a day since she was three months old. However as yet she has not attempted to 'read' in any way...i understand she is still quite small, but when you see videos of nine month old babies read, its astonishing. i really want to work hard with Nawaal, she is my first baby, and its all the more important for her to exceed because she was born 10 weeks early at an astonishing 995g. the doctors were very unsure if she would even make it. But Alhamdullilah, she's thriving and healthy like any other 10 month old child. i downloaded the Noorani file, however there doesn't seem to be any sound. i wonder if any one else is having the same problems. oh, just a quick question when did you baby start to read, i know every child is different but i do hope Nawaal starts reading soon. oh, and Well done to Tina, she sound like she is doing very well, how old is she? all the best Munira

Hiya, i'm attempting to teach Nawaal the Quranic alphabet. i've got an arabic alphabet word puzzle that she's been playing with, although i'm pretty sure she's just 'playing' rather than actually recognising any of the words... but i'm just trying to make her familiar with them. unfortunatley i'm not fully fluent in arabic, however i can read the Quran and as such my main priority is to enable her to begin to learn and read the quran as soon as possible for her of course. i've attempted to look for a decent program on youtube, however, as yet no luck.
all the best.
