EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Other Topics / Re: Question on Shichida's Memory Linking (ML) activities

Hi JudyMendes,
I just want to share with you the knowledge that I know.
My boy is now 23 months old. He started with Shichida class when he was 18 months old. The teacher in Shichida class will introduce 5 cards. She will read out the story and at the same time show 5 picture cards. For child below 2 years old, they will not be able to know which card comes 1st and followed by the second cards and so on. So, the child is asked to pick up the right cards. Eg, if you have apple, orange, strawberry, papaya and watermelon, the teacher will say, please pick up papaya. then the child will choose the papaya cards. if the child doesn't understand, the parent will step in and help the child to choose the papaya card. Almost every week of the lesson, Linking memory is played. Each week, the sets of cards are different. For now that he is 23 months old, Shichida class introduce about 6 pictures to the child in one linking memory story. Some of the pictures my boy knows and some of them he doesn't.
The teacher will read the story and at the same time, flash the cards for the chilld. After finishing the story, the teacher will repeat the cards by only saying the name of the object. then the child will have to arrange the cards followed by the sequece that he/she saw. If the child is unable to arrange, parent will help. then the teacher will ask the child to pick up the cards accordingly. like when teacher says, pick up the ambulance, the child will take ambulance and show to the teacher. Once the sequece is right (with or without the help of parent), the teacher will ask the child to capture the sequence. the teacher will say :"use your special eyes to captures the images" then all 6 cards will be flipped over and now, the child will face the blank side of the cards. then the teacher will ask the child to try and pick up the right cards. the teacher will say pick up the ambulance, so, the child will try to remember the position of the ambulance card and open it.
Can i use the same pictures more than one time in the same story I dont see the teacher using the same cards. so, I also produce my own cards with no repetation unless the cards are stopped for more then few months.
Does ur child need to know the picture first before i start using these pictures in LM. No. Some of the cards, my son doesn't know at all but once we introduce the cards to him, surprisingly he can remeber the cards easily.
How do u'll remember the story line for the picture, do you read it or is it spontaneous. Are they any better ways When you prepare the picture cards, you will also have to have a story line for the pictures. so, it's not spontaneous. it's planned.
How many cards should i introduce per day no limit, if you child can take more, you can make more for a story. for the start, can start with 3 pictures for one story and slowly increase to make more pictures with longer story.
When do i introduce new cards for what i see from the class, each time, new cards are being introduced. so, i suppose that we can introduce new cards anytime.
What is the frequency of doing this program, is it 3 times per day for our home practice, we only do it once a day but I believe that there is no harm to pratice more time a day as long as the session is not stressed up and the child wants more.
Should i ask my child to recall the cards in the squence after I have showed her all the cards for that session. Or should i ask her after to recall the cards after I have done with her couple of sessions. yes.recall right after the session. i introduce my son with 6 pictures and i read out the story for him and flash the cards and also repeat the object only once and to my surprise that he remmebers all the object.just that he is still not good at the sequence.
What is the expected count of images a 2 year old child should recall no expectation. just try your best to teach the child. when he/she can't get the right answer, just tell he/she "good try". and show her the right answer.
Should you create multiple stories of 50-100 cards, or just add extra pictures to the existing story 50-100 cards are for older kids. so, I cannot commend much for older kids. but for my understanding, each lesson that we attanded for SM, the stories are different and the cards are different too. Example, for last week class, the teacher will have 6 pictures in one story. then this week, teacher will have 6 new pictures with another new story. For last year, we used 5 picutre snad this year, we have 6 pictures. so, slowly, the numbers of cards will increase within a story following the age of the child.
What are the stages in Memory Linking. What i mean is how would a memory linking session be different for a 2 year old v/s 3-7 years old. What are the stages in memory linking, how do i progress with it i am not sure about 3-7 years old. as for now from 1 and 2 years old, it's the number of cards that is increasing. so, I suppose that older child will have to remember more cards.
hope that helps you a little.
cheers, verolpj

Hi All,
Thanks for the reply. This is the answer that I get from the manufacturer:
Thank you for your website enquiry. The Pigeon steam steriliser can be used many, many times over. I have no specific set time that you should use it for. It should however if looked after properly be used for a number of children. I have had customers who have had one for 4 - 5 years and used it with all there children, other customers will use it for one child then purchase a new one if required. It is totally your preference and choice as to how long you use it for. It is like any other electrical appliance, they can be used until they no longer work. The Pigeon steam steriliser is under warranty for 12 months from the time of purchase. I hope that this information has been helpful.

Hi all, My friend passed me a steriliser 2 years ago as her children has grown up and she doens't need the steriliser anymore. I then continue to use her steriliser and now, I would like to find out how long should we use a steriliser for? Any life spend for the steriliser? Will the steriliser turned into a harmful steriliser due to the materials that they use to make the steriliser? To be specific, I am using the Pigeon Rapid steriliser: http://www.pigeonbaby.info/product.php?pr_id=46Thanks. regards, verolpj

Hi Mandy, It will be good if we can exchange materials. Kindly email me at [email protected]. thanks. Hi Ragheeba, 65 days programme is a programme that Shichida Method uses for it's high-speed culculation. This method cultivates the innate right high-speed calculation ability that every child has. It helps improves the intuition and image power by flashing dots cards and mathematics talents for the young children for it activates the ability of processing number in high speed. As the child stares at the cards being flashed at high-speed, the right brain that functions at high-speed rhythm will respond. The right brain high-speed calculation ability activates the right brain when the arithmetic is being input at high-speed. The brain nerve cells that are working in slow speed, become sensitive to the simulation and begin the chain reaction. Every child has the right brain calculation ability, we bring out the ability through the dots programme. Hope that helps. cheers, verolpj

Hi, I am in Singapore. The Infant care here takes in babies as young as 2 months old. So, My child actually goes to Infant care at the age of 3 months old as we need to work and there is no other families members to help us. Domestic helpers came across our mind but after having serious though, we stil chose the infant care as the teachers are trained to handle the babies. My child is 21 months now, he seems to learn alot from the childcare. He sings and dance when he comes home and he talks a lot with proper language. Some things are not being though by us are being though in the shcool. He is also a very independant child. I have read on few Shichida's book and he was mentioning that starting the child with early education will definately not effecting the brain and infact, if we don't let the child have early childhood education, that might affect the brain. Good luck cheers, verolpj

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Shichida 65 Days Programme and issues

Hi all,
Some of you might have seen this post of mine in other forum but would like to share it here.
I think most of us are have the problem of child running away when we start to flash the random cards (red dots) to them.
I am having the same issue too. So, after attending the SM parenting course, this is the message that I get; In SM, we have to do 4 cycles of 65 days program. For child younger than 3 yrs old, you can only follow the 65 days programme up to 58 days as after 58 days, you need the respond from the child but the child is unable to give feedback, so, we can't proceed from 59 days to 65 days for child below 3 yrs old.
1st and 2nd cycle is to use the Random cards (Red dots cards) and the 3rd and 4th cycles, we can use the variety dots cards. So, some of the parents are also asking what if my child runs away when we flash the random cards? The message that I get is that that's why they encourage having 4 cycles. The child might miss something in the 1st cycle but she might be able to pick up something on the other cycles.
Other way to attract the child to look at the random cards is that we have to identify what are the things that the child likes. Example, if the child likes to look at apples and oranges, we should flash an apple category of flash cards and then followed by the random cards. With that, we might be able to get them to see more random cards. For me, I personally feel that after the random cards, we can also flash the orange category flash cards because if we stop at the random cards on day 1, then the child might not want to look at random cards on day 2 as they know that there is nothing interesting after the random cards. So, I feel that with the follow up of the orange category cards, the child will look forward to see the orange cards when they are looking at the random cards.
Questions being ask in SM home practice session: 1. What if after seeing 2 random flash cards and my child run away? Should I continue to flash until 10? - Yes, please continue to read it out although your child is not looking at it but they might be listening to you and of cause it's provided that the child is still inside the room. LOL. 2. Can I insert other interesting picture between random cards?Example, I insert a dog picture between random dot card 2 and random dot card 3 to make him stare at the cards? - No, when flashing the random cards, it has to be all 10 random cards being flashed at 1 go. We are not allowed to add in photos or pictures in between. 3. If my child likes to look at the random cards, Can I use the random cards for 4 cycles? - Yes, you can use the Random cards for 4 cycles if the child likes it. 4. If I am travelling, can I stop teaching my child the 65 day programme? - Yes, you can stop for few days but let’s say if you stop for 2 weeks, then you have to start all over again even though you have reached the 50 or 60 days of the programme. 5. How long should I take a break before I move to the 2nd cycle? - You can rest 2 weeks to 1 month before you start the 2nd cycle. 6. How many times in a day do we need to flash the random cards to the child? - Once is enough. But if you have the time and your child likes it, you can do more than once in a day.
A mother asked if her son doesn’t look at the random cards and he is running around. Should I take the cards to chase after him?By doing so, you are forcing the child to see it. This will not be effective as the child is not willing to see it.
That's all for my sharing now. Hope to hear some ideas and sharings from all.
cheers, verolpj
