Parents' Lounge / General Pregnancy / Re: Preparing for the delivery

We came to live in China while I was pregnant, knowing that I would give birth here. For that reason, I was unable to take prenatal classes. I did, however, use my own breathing technique of simply taking long, deep breaths through each contraction and focusing on nothing but breathing. As a result, my labour was fairly easy and not once in the whole 44 HOURS did I question my desire to have many children.
After three months we were pregnant with number two and in January, I will employ that technique (still here in China) once again!

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: How much TV do you allow?
|

We allow a 30 minute educational video maybe once or twice a week while I attempt to cook or clean unhindered. Lily also watches a couple of videos from sciencewithme.com or starfall.com on occasion . She also likes to play on kneebouncers.com. In total, on average, maybe 15-20 min/day maximum tv and computer.
I know this may seem like a lot, but it doesn't seem to be hindering her at all. At 8 months she knows her colours, shapes, animals, numbers, and about 30 other random objects. She also speaks about 15 words ("bum" when she needs changing, "more" when we aren't spoon feeding her fast enough, "cat" or "kitty" cat when we see one, etc.).
While I don't advocate constant tv, I know I watched as a young child and was still speaking every word I'd ever heard by two, and certainly had no negative long term effects.
I think as long as you balance lots of interaction with television time, you should be okay!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Music / Musical Instrument Flashcards
|
on: September 07, 2009, 03:11:37 AM
|
I've just finished my musical instrument flash cards and thought I would share! The include all of the typical of the North American instruments I could think of from accordion to xylophone. Let me know if you get some use out of it!
I will upload two versions - the Open Office version should retain it's formatting but the Word file may need some tweaking.
- Enjoy!

Hello All! I was just searching the web for instrument sound files to use in conjunction with my musical instrument flash cards and I came across this great site - http://www.findsounds.com. Not only did it have several of the instrument sounds I was looking for, it also has an array of other sounds such as animals, vehicles, and tools. I thought this may come in handy for some of your PP presentations! ENJOY!
