EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Has preschool helped your child?

Yes, preschool has helped our son and me. After I switched him to the preschool he is currently in I have no doubt he is happy and learning things that I do not do well with. DS is learning to share, to wait his turn, to go potty for someone else, he goes to music class, and does art projects daily. DS looks forward to going to preschool and I use the time to do to Doctor's appointments and do things that take away from OUR time together. He attends school from 9-12 on MWF, his teacher had only 4 "young" toddlers until a last month. I really liked that his class was so small for most of the year. If I had not changed preschools my thoughts would have been different. So the school, teacher and even other children have an impact. ty

At my son's preschool they devote a week to each alphabet letter. DS knows the alphabet and his teacher knows that. She noted that DS was deltiberatly saying the wrong letter, she went through the alphabet and he laughed at getting the letters wrong. At home I decided to find out what was going on. As it turns out DS did not forget the alphabet he was having fun, his way. With me he took the letter W and said it was M, P was b, C a broked O, Z was N.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: How do you encourage babies to stand/walk earlier

I agree that crawing is very very important to future development. Not that early walking should not be done just crawing should be first. I base this on what happened when my neice had to have most of her left brain removed. The operation was planned and the recovery plan was very specific. The physical part of her recuperation put extreme emphasis on crawling first. The neurologist and physical therapists said that her right brain and the remaining portions of her left brain needed her to crawl inorder to rewire their lost communication paths. This just makes me think (my opinion) that crawing for infants is just as important.

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Chicken Pox at 6 months old, advice appreciated

Our older daughter had chicken pox at 6 months, her case was mild compared to the older kids who got it before her. Due to her age I was able to easily treat her and stop her from scratching. She ended up with a pox scar on her face but it came in handy when the school nurse in TX wanted her to get the chicken pox shot. I was also told she wouldn't get them because of her age and my immunities in her body. I myself was exposed to chicken pox at a young age from my older siblings and never had any signs of them but after repeated exposure I never had a full blown case.
I hope pokercub does not have them but I hope it helps you knowing another child had a very mild case at the same age.
