EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: When did your kids start counting to 10?

well... what do you mean by one-to-one correspondence? seeing 2 of something and being able to count to 2, or counting out objects counting forward, or taking away objects when she counts backwards? if that is what you mean yes... she has been doing all of that from the beginning, as we did that as soon as she started to recognize her numbers, which was around 1 year... i think you can thank Doman and Shichida for that. we did both dot programs. the doc

my DD started counting to 10 when she was around 16-17 mo. and counting in other languages at the same time too. we started counting backwards when she was 18-19 mo. according to dr. jones, and that really helped. now she is counting to 60/70 and to 20 in greek, italian, spanish and sign language... and getting close to 30. and we ALWAYS count backwards. i made her start to count the dot matrix cards from the beginning and count everything in site. now we're trying to get her to count forward from a certain number and backwards from a certain number... that is more difficult, but it is coming. i love the concepts of dr. jones but i'm not crazy about the materials... i guess you can't have it all without paying a fortune, right?? the doc

Hi. I would say 90% are color.. Cutouts from books, etc. The largest images I could find of the given subject at the time. For example, i have all the UN flags, but they are fairly small... Like 4x6. But the pictures of people fill the page. They are mounted on the same size as the doman bits. Although his are the gold standard in bits, a few subjects are definately 22karat! I have to say I'm proud of my handiwork and it does the trick. There are no POIs on the back, as it was more important to get through as many subjects as possible. I had planned to add POIs as she grew, but I have to tell you that after making all that stuff I'm kind of done... Not kind of, I AM done! If anyone is serious about them I will fwd. Pix. I'm not sure what good the pix will do you as each subject is different. For example I got a friend of mine to draw the famous Greeks, which look great, but are not pix like I have of the first ladies, which are their official portraits. These are old school bits my friends, but they do get the job done. The doc

hi MNA- since your DD is 3, i would go for more things geared toward older toddlers and not babies. video wise i love the leap frog videos. she learned her letters, sounds of letters when she was 15 months old. and because of leap frog she knows rules... so when she sees 2 vowels together, she says "when 2 vowels go walking the first one does the talking", etc. BEFORE 2! she is a smart girl but that is all leap frog. flash cards are the big thing for RB education. i would do a little research on doman's sight and others to see what you should do for a child of 3, as i think the flash card thing might be different as (i believe) it was designed for infants and young toddlers. i flashed like crazy when she was 7 mo. old, but now that she just turned 2, i have to change my tactic a little bit as she wants/needs something a bit more interactive. if your DD is writing, do consider some of the things that incorporate writing in the program like dr. jones and some others. another thing that really worked for us was kidsenglish.com (i think) or if that isn't correct, look up fantastikos mathematikos and the WHOLE DVD set, like 5-6 videos, is only $20 us. it is AMAZING. she now knows the difference between a right triangle and an equilateral triangle. again, all before 2. BUT, once you give your DD all of this information, what are you going to do with it? i believe the trick to make all of this stick is to just keep going! for us, that means finding classes or a tutor (or what i can do) to just keep teaching her. i just don't want to stop and wait for others to catch up. i'm lucky that i live in a big city that i have resources to go to, but in any city/town, even the city college has math professors and assistants that may be able to help. through this forum there is also TONS for information about free programs and programs that don't cost a ton of $$. i think the best thing you can do right now is make sure what you get is not geared toward babies and small toddlers. i would look at pre k material and go from there. RB education works... just do it every day! hope this helps, the doc

Hello all: The Doc here... haven't been on the site for a while as my mother just passed. anyway, i'm clearing out things and have decided to sell my very large set of bit cards. my daugher is now 26 mo. and they have served her very well. i am a dedicated doman/shichida groupie... i totally drank the kool-aid. These are mostly hand made bits of FABULOUS quality (at least in my opinion) and 16 sets of doman bits from the institute including the 100 dot cards. and there is the added bonus of fabulous sturdy cases for the homemade bits. those alone were over $100 and will be included in the sale.ALL THE BITS ARE ALL THE DOMAN SIZE- 11x11. i also have several doman books to get you started. i would rather not mail, but have someone local (LA area in the states) buy them. HOWEVER, i will mail if you are willing to pay the very expensive postage. i'm assuming it will be in the $250 range depending upon where i send it. i have just saved someone LOTS of time! the list is as follows: HOMEMADE BITS Cats- 23 bits Apples- 29 Dogs- 23 Antique cars- 23 UN flags- 168 General art – 43 Parts of a tooth- 9 Monet art- 9 Famous Greeks- 20 Manet art- 7 Cezanne art- 7 Donatello art- 24 Remington art- 19 State flags-50 Bugs- 28 Boat signal flags- 25 Matisse art- 19 First ladies- 39 Leaves- 25 Skeletal system- 33 Bird nests- 9 Presidents- 40 Baseball teams- 29 Butterflies- 95 American monuments- 14 Football teams- 30 Solar systems- 12 Roman numerals- 31 Sign language alphabet- 26 Sea shells- 84 Itamins and minerals- 22 Seamen’s knots- 22 Digestive system- 24 1-100 numerals- 100 chemical elements- 102 states- 50
DOMAN CARDS- 10 of each set Dinosaurs, reptiles, organs of the body, mammals set 1, Picasso art, sea creatures set 1, anphibians, presidents, composers set 1, daVinci art set 1, polygons set 1, musical instruments set 1, artist self portraits, world leaders set 1, birds of prey set 1 primates 1-100 dot cards... and 140 BLANK CARDS!!
obviously this is an expensive venture in both time and materials. i would like to make $1.50/bit, which is a deal considering a set of doman bits is on the online store are $20 plus tax and shipping. will accept REASONABLE offers! Thanks!! and keep flashing!
