Hi waterdreamer! I started Memory Magic when my older daughter was 4. She loves all 3 online games and I am glad that the CD teaches the 'silly story' method!! It is a very effective way to memorize a bunch of unrelated information in a short time. Not sure how exactly to answer your question... hmmmm, I just showed her how to play and I then played with her together. Soon she could play on her own. If your son doesn't know how to play, play with him! It is the best way to raise his interest and to show him how to do it. For the Silly Story game, I told the story with the picture and then guided her to do the game. Hope it helps! Teresa

Hi Leny, Thanks for the question! This thread is long but you will know it better (what to buy/ what the DVDs are about/ the reason behind it/ the best time to play the DVD to your toddler...) by reading the first few pages. Many people who commented on this thread have given a lot of useful information. I am sure you will learn a lot out of it! These are the right brain DVDs that I was using with my son and you can get it from here: Tweedlewink DVDs: http://bit.ly/ak9KRz (my son started when he was about the same age as your son) I also have Memory Magic Deluxe games: http://bit.ly/bLEkLjAlso bought the downloadable book Nurturing Creative by Dr. Yew Kam Keong (really good book to read!): http://bit.ly/bAN5iZAs for my son's language development, apart from giving him the Tweedlewink DVD (and his vocabulary increased from 10 to 40 in a month), I don't think I did anything differently - so that's why I attributed the improvement to the DVDs. It may be different from child to child, you just have to be patient and keep on playing with him! Have a great day! Teresa

Hi fayzspace, Nice! Be sure to be consistent to be able to make a great impact! Wishing you luck! An update about my son for everyone on this thread: He turned 3 last November (yes , time flies!!! feel like I am getting old... ) He is attending a Montessori preschool. His teacher started him with 'practical life' exercise. Recently I was told that my son is in fact more capable than they thought. What he had been doing was not challenging enough for him and therefore he didn't seem to be too interested. One day his teacher taught him to do 'sound cylinder' (hm... not sure what exactly it is but it is a new set of more challenging activity) and he did very well! They are also surprised to see that he already knows his alphabets. The teacher's feedback was that he became more engaged and is more interested in learning. Now they are going to advance him to a higher level. According to my older daughter who is 5.5, sound cylinder is only done by 'big kids' and she is still doing it in her kindergarten. So... I guess my hard work is starting to pay off? Recently found a really good toy store (by Scholastic!): http://bit.ly/9i8Qai They have lots of quality non-violent educational toys. Check them out! Teresa

Hi everyone, Some sharing... I have got 'Your Baby Can Read' DVD and play card set for a month and I tried it with my kids. My 4 1/2 old loves it and she can recognize the words real quick (the phonics lesson that she has from school helps, and this is one reason why she loves the DVD!!) My 2 1/2 years old son likes it too although he's slower in recognizing the words. My 7 months old baby doesn't like it... This is a more left-brained lesson. It focuses on repetition. You are required to play the same DVD 2 times per day for 1 whole month before you can move on to another lesson. Personally I prefer developing the right brains for kids when they are at these young age, because this is the time when they can absorb lots of information like a sponge using their right brains. Having this 'skill' will benefit them for a life time. Well, since my daughter loves it and she can learn quick from it, I guess the DVD also has a good market. I have recently signed up for tips from Child Genius Minds at http://childgeniusminds.com/. I would recommend it to everyone because it has lots of interesting tips for higher IQ for kids. Check it out! Teresa

Just read this from a blog about 'perfect pitch', and would like to share: 'It tracks a musical child prodigy, Marc Yu, through his remarkable progress in the world of classical music. At age two, little Marc could bang out "Mary had a little lamb" on the piano after listening to the tune once. At three, he gave his first public performance on the piano, performing a Beethoven piece. And at seven, he is able to play 40 pieces of classical music from memory. It is truly extroardinary to listen to him play an exquisite Chopin nocturne that would have stumped a teenager who is twice his age and of normal intelligence, with a bit more practice under his belt. As the boy genius puts it gleefully: "I like the difficult pieces, especially when my teacher says no." It also turns out that he has perfect pitch (industry insiders will know this is a very rare talent), which he was born with, not taught. Only one in 10,000 people have it.' http://www.onlinedocumentaries4u.com/2008/11/my-brilliant-brain-born-genis.htmlMy son was exposed to the 'perfect pitch' training when he watches the DVDs. Every time he will voice out the piano pitch and I am amazed how accurate it is! At age 2, he is interested in all sorts of musical instruments. Now, he knows how to play a 1-tone harmony with 2 keys on the piano. Moreover, he already has a concept of an orchestra. I saw him gathering toys that play music, turn them all on while he plays the toy guitar. Kids never cease to amaze us! Teresa

I think the claim (e.g. soft voice & no words when illustrating the solar system) about the Tweedlewink DVD is right but I won't take it as a bad thing. Children absorb what they see quickly, and I am focusing on result. The sharing that I made about my son's developmental leap is a solid proof that the DVD is making an impact I have recently bot "Your Baby can Read" because I have heard that it's also a very good one. Haven't received the DVD yet but will definitely share the result Haven't tried the Memory Magic CD yet. Got it last week! Teresa

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: How to encourage toddler to speak?

Actually studies show that babies using sign language speak faster than those who have not exposed to sign language. Initially I thought that was strange 'cause I was thinking the same thing as you did. But later I think that can be reasonable because babies who are communicating with sign language are used to expressed themselves. So it makes sense they are expressing themselves better when they learn how to speak. Teresa
