EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: How to encourage toddler to speak?

I totally agree that each kid is an individual and they have their own pace. I shared how I was worrying about my son's speech development when he was a few months over 1 year old, then we started a right brain training program for him and it seems to work very well: http://forum.brillkids.com/general-discussion-b5/we-are-starting-to-use-right-brain-education-to-our-son/My son continued to see the speech pathologist until 2 months ago when he was graduated!!! He was "behind" other kids and now at 2 years of age I can say he speaks more complicated words than a lot of kids at his age. He is speaking 6-7 words sentences. His older sister (4 years old) talks to him a lot and he loves to mimic her. So I guess as DomanMom said, just wait patiently for the "breakthrough" and your kid will surprise you by how much he know! Continue to talk to him like talking to an adult will certainly help him to structure his sentences and add more vocabularies. Just relax and be persistent! Teresa

Thanks Nikita. So does your kids like the Babybit DVD? It's quite expensive but as you said may worth it because there's so many info packed inside it. How's the content compared to that of Tweedlewink's? Does it include varieties like cultures, science, music and phonics?? I looked at the sample and I only see words and math flash cards... but I like the fact that it contains so many languages! (although the English is of an accent different from what we use in North America). Teresa

Hi Sapna,
Yes, I think Wink has some interesting products, but since my kids are all under 6 years old, I have not bought any of the wink product. Tweedlewink is the course for kids at 0-6 years old. Therefore, I can't comment on the Wink course but as you said, some of the sounds quite useful! For me, I am using the 7 DVD set. Heard from my friends today that they are going to have more lessons out soon.

Hello Sapna,
Actually it's not my friend's son. I got an email from Tweedlewink featuring this story and after reading this story we decided to try the DVDs. Yes, what they said is when the kids are sleepy, they are using their subconscious minds and if we are flashing information to them at this state, they will use their right brian to remember (which is faster). Each DVD contains 4 8-minute lessons. We play one lesson each time. Tweedlewink suggests playing the same lesson 1-3 times before we go onto the next one.
Hope it helps!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Other Topics / Re: Crawling: is it important?
|

I think Brillbaby's article said it all and I totally agree with it! My husband told me that a mother in Hong Kong flew to the United States to learn right brain education for her son (a few years back... I guess right brain education was not as common as it is these days). After finishing the course she always made her son crawl. She even brought her son to some indoor areas that had more space for her son to crawl. Her friends and relatives thought she was crazy - until her son became the first junior astronaut in Hong Kong (who joined the US airspace team) at 6 years old! The TweedleWink Teleseminar also mentioned that crawling is an important stage for kids as babies are using their right brain when they are doing cross motion (i.e. crawling). It's recommended that we play foreign language, scientific facts or classical music to them when they are crawling because they will absorb those information like a sponge! My son loved to crawl but since he wasn't walking when he was 1 year and 3 months old, our infant development consultant insisted that he should learn to walk (because he was physically ready) and so forced him to walk. If I had taken the teleseminar earlier, I would not have forced my son to walk this early! Teresa
