2  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Early Learning Workshop on: October 11, 2013, 09:26:53 PM
Hello Everyone,

This post is somewhat of a continuation of an earlier post from three years ago I recently found on this exact topic. I am in the process of creating an early learning workshop that will be held at a birthing center my midwife recently opened.

Sooo to get to the point:) Has anyone ever attempted to do an early learning workshop or any other workshop related to babies/toddlers? How did it go? Any advice as this is my first time doing a workshop so any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and have a great day!

3  Parents' Lounge / General Pregnancy / Re: Morning Sickness Remedies Anyone? on: January 11, 2013, 07:05:25 PM
Hello Everyone!

Thank you all for your suggestions I really appreciate it big grin  I have finally reached my due date yet the baby has decided he isn't ready to come yet and I still have morning sickness everyday all day. I wasn't able to try all of the suggestions given, but I have a feeling that this allday sickness that I have during pregnancy will continue with future pregnancies so I will definitely be keeping the suggestions handy for the future. In the meantime I do hope that others may have benefited from this post.

As far as the posts on tiredness, I agree on getting iron levels checked and resting as much as possible. My midwife started me on floradix due to my iron levels being low. She was concerned about them to the point that she informed me if they didn't go up I may not be able to have the home birth that I was planning for. Once I started taking it on an empty stomach twice a day my iron levels went up a great deal and we were both happy. Although it did nothing for my morning sickness it did boost my energy level and I wasn't out of breath just by walking up a flight of stairs LOL

I never heard of globe artichoke extract or milk thistle for morning sickness, but I am all for trying anything that may help alleviate it. Thank you!

Happymommy4ever and skylark thanks for the info regarding the liver during pregnancy. I did some more research and learned a lot.

Thanks again to all you and have a great day!!! big grin

Thanks Mela Bala for your input, I also tried sea bands and they nothing for me, but I figured out that I don't have nausea so I am not surprised they didn't work, but I am glad they helped you!

Thanks CVMomma for the article....with the exception of one I have tried them all and none have worked...I have come to the conclusion that this is just my challenge during this amazing time in my life smile

Take Care and  Thanks again!!

Hello,

This was recommended for me by my midwife for low iron....has anyone tried this or know anything about it?
6  Parents' Lounge / General Pregnancy / Morning Sickness Remedies Anyone? on: August 03, 2012, 07:26:50 AM
Hello Everyone:)

I am pregnant and dealing with horrible morning sickness and nothing that I have tried has worked. Just wondering if there is anything that has worked for you or someone you know who experienced MS during pregnancy.

I have tried:
Acupuncture
Acupressure
Chiropractor
Reflexology
ginger
peppermint
lemon
B6
raspberry tea
crackers
morning sickness supplements
digestion supplements
eating small meals every two hours
essential oils (digest zen)

I do feel that these remedies work for some, but just not for me.  I was sick with my first for the entire 10 months of my pregnancy and this one seems to be headed in the same direction seeing as how I am out of my first trimester and it still hasn't let up.....Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

7  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: Anyone tried live language lessons via Skype? on: April 27, 2011, 06:14:40 PM
Hello smile

I am not familiar with the website you posted, but I have had some experience with language exchanges through skype and they worked out just fine. I was able to include my son in the lessons by allowing him to listen in on them and even talk to her/him one on one at the very end of our lesson for a few minutes. He knew what days I was having my lessons so he would ask for one of his educational videos in that particular language and go back and forth between rooms during that time. Hope this helps and take care!!
8  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Teaching multiple languages you don't know on: January 26, 2011, 07:05:15 AM
I think it is great that you all are teaching/exposing your children to several different languages...many of which you don't know. I am in the same boat. I began teaching my son 9 different languages at a young age because of the resources I had, but also due to my love for languages. I have learned so much right along with him and although I have recently slacked off I plan to get back on track within the next couple of days. My little one started school and it is actually the only school that I found that I felt comfortable sending him to that would challenge him and pick up where I left off. Anywho, as far as the languages are concerned he has made great progress in all of them and continues to amaze me at the rate he learns new material that he has only been exposed to once or twice. I am constantly reaching a point where I don't know what to teach next as well as new material to use to supplement our learning, but this site is great for those moments. I have tons of dvds, cds, books etc, but it is so hard for me to fight the urge to get other material suggested by other members smile  Good luck to you all and keep up the great work!!!
9  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Sports Training for Babies and Toddlers on: December 07, 2010, 02:39:19 AM
Thanks so much for posting!! I haven't heard of any of these programs, but just finished looking them up and found some helpful information and additional links where I found more useful info. My son has had an interest in sports since he was 1 years old and for his 2nd birthday he received a basketball set and every morning, day and night he played ball. Throughout his second year we also got him a soccer, football, golf, badminton, and baseball set. He has learned how to play from his siblings and lots of practice and many people are surprised at how focused and good he is for his age. My mom's school has a group of young professional soccer players who will be coming to teach the 1st graders how to play.....I will definitely be asking if they would be interested in teaching younger children to play if I get a group together:) Thanks again and have a good one!!

Thanks for sharing! I am currently in Milwaukee visiting family and I saw it at Walgreens for that same price. I was surprised to see it there, but it would be a nice option for those who can't afford to spend $199.
12  Parents' Lounge / General Pregnancy / Re: Need some help plxxxxxxxx on: September 02, 2010, 01:49:49 PM
Hello Mixoo,

Being only about 3 months pregnant I wouldn't worry about it. My sister had the same issue during her pregnancy and everything turned out fine. Early in her pregnancy the doctor told her that her placenta was low and very close to the opening of the cervix (placenta previa), but didn't stress over it because she was in her first trimester. As her pregnancy progressed the placenta shifted and by the time of her delivery it had moved away from the opening and she delivered a healthy baby boy. Below is more information on placenta previa if you are interested and it may answer any additional questions you may have. Hope this helps and enjoy your day!

13  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Understanding the meaning of can read... on: August 31, 2010, 06:40:11 AM
I go with number 4 also. My son has been reading for a while now, but I really didn't realize how much he knew until he started reading for other family members. I avoid testing my son and for the most part he prefers I read everything while he sits back and takes it in. He has an amazing memory and loves learning and reading new words. Every night he asks for "his words and so I write down a list of words, most of them being his first time seeing, and he reads them. My challenge now is figuring out where to go from here. He reads/speaks in any of the several languages he is learning when he feels like it, which happens to be everyday smile

As for math he doesn't show us much. From time to time, but not at all like reading. Nonetheless I continue with LR in addition to having completed Shichida and Doman. He enjoys it very much and so I continue doing it with him. I plan to begin two other math programs with him in the near future and continue to have fun as we have in the past. Since beginning the math program he continued to get the problem solving questions correct once we started the equations part and counts to 100. Some months ago we were shopping and he saw a shirt that had the number 91 on it and he said "Mom look that's the number 91"  Even though he doesn't show us much I do not get discouraged from teaching him, I stay motivated in knowing that he is taking it all in smile

Thanks for starting such an interesting post Trinity Papa! I thought about this a lot when my son started reading. You seem to have a lot on your plate in addition to all that you do with your daughter. She is very fortunate to have you as her dad and keep doing what you are doing. Remember to have fun and whenever possible take some time for yourself as well.
14  Products Marketplace / Product Discussions and Reviews / Re: Jones Geniuses Math & Reading Programs- Are you interested? on: August 24, 2010, 02:24:32 PM
That's my dilemma too, as far as the math program is concerned. I want to start teaching math using the abacus at mathabacus.com and am wondering if I would be doing too much adding this program to the mix. As for the reading program, is the one he went over the only one being offered to us at a discount? My challenge at this point is finding a program to pick up where his program leaves off. I e-mailed Chris because I hadn't heard back from him also so I am hoping I will be able to discuss things further before I make any decisions. Thanks again LilyAndOwensMom for taking the time to put all of this together!! It was very informative and did answer some of the questions I had about the programs.
15  Parents' Lounge / General Pregnancy / Re: When and how did you find out about your baby's gender??? on: August 08, 2010, 11:32:02 AM
I also waited until my son was born and I plan to do that with any future pregnancies as well.
