EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Question about babies reading
|
on: November 30, 2008, 01:28:51 PM
|
I was talking to one of my sister-in-laws a couple of days ago and she was telling me that she saw a program on tv regarding YBCR, which I had already heard of, but she said she thought of me when she saw it because of all the things I am teaching my son. She continued on saying that she believes that babies can read, but that they can only read words that they are taught and not beyond that....is that true? She also said something to the extent that the ability to read more difficult/unfamiliar words would not come until the age of 5. Let me know what you think and thanks in advance!!

My son no longer wants me to feed him anymore, but fusses until I give him a spoon or fork then he will use it to eat all by himself. I am not worried about anything because I am sure he is just trying to be independent, but I was wondering how it worked in other households, do most babies began doing this around 1?

I started cutting dairy out of my diet over 2 years ago and I do not plan on giving it to my son at all. I have known of the ill effects of dairy for a while, but it wasn't until I gave it up completely that I noticed a big difference in my health. Anywho, I switched to rice milk, but the only brand I prefer is full circle.

I believe this is the link to the site that was suggested earlier... http://www.iflylanguage.com/ListenToThis/. You should be able to record your voice and the site will evaluate it for you and tell you if you made a mistake. I am also in the process of teaching my son Chinese and have been for a while now (he just turned 1). He is not speaking much chinese only ba4ba (daddy) and ma1ma (mommy), but he understands a lot. I only have some nursery rhymes that he listens to, as well as flashcards, but most of his exposeure comes from me talking to him. I have been learning chinese since earlier this year and it is going great!! If you ever have any questions please don't hesitate to let me know!!

Hello!!
My son just turned one on the 3rd and to be honest I think I have done the exact opposite. I have found ways to include solids in his diet, but I haven't changed my feedings. By that I mean when he wants to nurse I let him nurse, but he also eats solids when I eat at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He has, on his own, changed how often he nurses except during his growth spurts every three months, and during that time I wonder if he will come up for air:) Hope this helps and good luck!!
