I just downloaded the new version of LR and i had a couple questions regarding the "courses" section.
1. How are we supposed to show these lessons? Once a day? Twice? What method does this course follow? doman? Is there a place on the site that discusses these courses and how to administer them?
2. When I click past lesson 10 it says I dont have the media files. I followed the direction on how to get it which is to download it from the website but I dont see the files to download..what are they called? I'm looking for the specific ones for all the courses in LR.

I do show my son words using ppt. My Little reader expired and I have yet to purchase it but I will be very soon hopefully!! I was looking for more of a video type of thing cuz my son loves watching the little kids in the YBCR videos! I think he likes the "movie" aspect of it...I noticed that he picked up more words using YBCR videos than with showing words on the computer....

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Assessing your child

My Son (16 months) seems to be doing much more that what the typical child development books says he should be doing. My husband and I are shocked that he can recogonize over a 100 words and is already imitating everything we do and say. We want to make sure that we do everything we can to help him meet his potential and would love some professional advice on what to do. Our pediatrician is not an expert on early education and doesnt seem interested in it. We would love to have an early education specialist access our son and give us personalized advice on what to do to cultivate his abilities early on.. Is there anything like this out there? Are there any early education centers/professionals that can do this in the U.S?

Hi Everyone,
My 16 month old son has mastered ALL the words from YBCR and he is just watching them over and over again...I think he may be getting bored with them now since he knows all the words. I wish Dr. Ttzier(sp) would make some more videos with different words! Has anyone made videos of thier own?? How do you go about doing that? Im thinking it will be a lot of work to make a video like YBCR...any thoughts?

I downloaded that product a very long time ago...I wasnt able to really use it though...I need to sit down and figure it out...I know its not a complicated software especially me being an IT professional....But I think it requires a couple hours to play with it to get to know it better...and I just didnt get around to doing that...I will download LR light and make it a priority to really sit down and play with it for while and start using it consistently....Thanks for your help KL..and for the quick response!

I have LR 1.06.83 installed on my computer but it says that its trial version and i have 0 days left to register. What do I have to do now to start using the product? I havent really gotten a chance to use it. I would like to spend some time on it and get pretty proficient in using it before I buy the product..

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Teach the alphabet?

KL - what do you think? Doman says not to teach the alphabet because the child might instead read the letters instead of the whole words...He says teaching the alphabets might cause confusion for the child. I dont want to undo what I already taught my son..He is doing really well so far...I dont want him to all of a sudden read the word Cat as 'c' 'a' 't'....

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Teach the alphabet?

Guys this is a two part question - I have been teaching my 14 month old whole words using YBCR videos and flashcards and pp presentations and some books..He is doing great and knows a lot of words...I am sooo tempted to teach him alphabets also! I know Doman suggests not to but is this really going to be a big problem if I do? The reason why I want to teach alphabets is because a lot of ppl started asking him questions about the Alphabet..They point to letters and ask him what they are and my son doesnt know because he only knows whole words! I hate when that happens! So I came across some dvds called Preschool Prep Series DVD....They have a DVD called "Meet the Letters". If its okay to teach alphabets and if learning the alphabets will not hinder him from learning words then I was thinking about getting this DVD. Has anyone used this DVD before? Any feedback would be appreciated.
Q1. Okay to teach alphabets? Q2. Anyone used Preschool Prep Series DVD?

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Little Reader the Doman Way
|
on: January 20, 2009, 07:10:32 PM

Can someone explain to me how I can use LR the doman way? I want to show 3 sets of 5 words 3 times in a day and then retire one word from each set after 5 days. What is the easiest way to do this with LR? Should I make a "retired" folder? and move words there and add words new words to existing playlists? Is this the only way to do it?
