BrillKids Software / Tech Support / Re: LR stopped working

Hi Nadia, Unfortunately that isn't a solution we'd recommend, as Semester 2 requires features that are only available in the latest version, and in theory changing the Category names, even in the older versions, shouldn't have worked . We're sorry for the inconvenience, we are currently and will continue to be working towards enabling parents as much flexibility and freedom as possible in their library structure in future versions of LR. Cheers, Shuki

Hi Jeff, Just to clarify, LM does come with Chinese (Mandarin) pronunciations, but we currently do not have a structured curriculum specific to the language. As mentioned in your thread on the Little Math boards, you can teach our existing curriculum using Mandarin pronunciations via the Override function. Cheers, Shuki

BrillKids Software / Tech Support / Solution for users with "Application integrity is broken" message
|
on: April 30, 2010, 03:36:30 AM
|
Hi guys, We've noticed that some users' Little Readers would not run properly, even though their reports showed everything had installed properly - it turns out that a faulty Microsoft .NET Framework can cause this problem! If you are encountering an "Application integrity is broken" message when trying to run Little Reader or Little Math, please repair your .NET Framework by doing the following: For Windows XP users:- From your Start menu, open your Control Panel
- Go to "Add or Remove Programs"
- Find and select "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0" (note that you may have another version of this installed, such as 3.0, 3.5, etc.)
- Click on the Change button - Choose "Repair" when given the option For Windows Vista & Windows 7 users:- From your Start menu, open your Control Panel
- Under"Programs," choose "Programs and Features"
- Find and select "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0" (note that you may have another version of this installed, such as 3.0, 3.5, etc.)
- Click on the Change button - Choose "Repair" when given the option
If you have multiple versions of the .NET Framework (e.g.: 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, etc.) installed in your computer, choose the latest version available and Repair it. If that does not resolve the problem, then try to repair the others too. This should resolve the issue. If you encounter any further difficulties, do let us know! Cheers, Shuki

Hi Nadia,
Yes, you cannot change Category names for Categories that are used in the Courses, or Little Reader will not function properly. The things you CAN do are:
1)edit words (rename, add other content).
Note: if you delete default words from default categories, then this word will be deleted from courses, remember that!
2)edit Categories (remove default words and add own words), but if you rename Categories which are used by Courses, LR will stop working (such actions will crash the database, as you have been experiencing.)
Alternatively, you can create your own Categories and use them in your own Playlists.
With regard to the curriculum, it's my understanding that yours is now highly modified, so unfortunately I think it would be risky to try and correct the mistakes without losing the work you've done.
However, if you would like to try downloading just the curriculum file (go to your Account Management > Download in Parts > Semester 1/2 Curriculum, not Content) and importing it, it should overwrite the existing Course lesson settings, adding back in the Phonics lessons you are missing, as well as correcting the Split mode errors, etc.
Cheers,
Shuki

Hi Nadia, Thanks for your patience in the matter. Please find attached a patched LittleReader.mdb file which has been zipped up. Follow the instructions below to replace your current faulty MDB with the patched file: 1. Download the attachment 2. Unzip the attachment's contents somewhere that you will remember. 3. Navigate to My Documents\BrillKids\Little Reader\Data 4. In this folder, locate the file "LittleReader.mdb" and delete it. 5. Go back to where you unzipped the contents of the attachment and copy the new file into My Documents\BrillKids\Little Reader\Data Cheers, let us know if you have any further problems! Shuki

BrillKids Software / Little Math - General Discussion / Re: About language in LM

Hi JeffYu! Little Math currently comes with English and Mandarin Chinese voices with which to teach your child - simply use the Override function to set Chinese voices in your lessons and all of the curriculum can be taught in Chinese! Hope that helps, Shuki

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: Questions about LR

Hi paps, Well the good news is, Little Reader and Little Math are both specially designed for the sole purpose of creating slideshow-style lessons. We've implemented many highly customizable features that are inspired predominantly by multisensory and flash card learning theory, which have been scientifically proven to be the most effective way to teach young children and babies. As for how, I personally believe the best way to find out is to jump right in and try out the customizable features for yourself - if a specific function eludes you, we have video tutorials and help manuals available for both of our software programs, in the support section of BrillKids.com. Cheers, Shuki
