EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Kids taught Doman in the 80's, where are they now?

Yes I agree, and I am not anti-Doman as I am doing the program and don't think it can hurt. I am not sure if it is really possible to raise a genius though. I think what the Doman program will do for my daughter is just make life a little easier. If Doman really made geniuses then it would be so huge that everyone would be doing it. It would be something taught to new mothers just like other child care subjects. I haven't heard of anyone that went through the Doman program doing anything amazing when they were older like you would expect. Does anyone know any?

carpe_diem, Thank you for the real insight you provided. Yes, I believe you should give them every opportunity as well and it can only help not hurt as long as you never force them to learn. My daughter is 9 months old now and I have been going on the program for about two weeks. My wife thinks its great, but hasn't read the book and is kind of making this my thing. When I told her we need to get "monkey bars" to help with strength and breathing she said I was nuts and starting to get a little weird about the whole thing. Thats when I thought, hmmmm does doing all this really produce results later or did I just drink the Doman "kool-aid". Reading is the pathway to learning many other things and I think if your child doesn't have the drive to learn many other things then it just isn't going to happen, but at least you gave them the tools and "reading option" to make that choice. Anyone else who has or knows someone who did the Doman method and is an adult please post. This is very interesting.

Yeah this is awesome and totally worth it. I had some friends who spoke Tagalog and it sounds difficult. I think I'm going to teach my daughter spanish as well as english my native language. Spanish will be easier because I have a lot of friends who speak it to talk to my daughter. For some reason I just feel like this right brain learning is a secret and something we should feel embarassed about to tell people but my urge is to tell everyone who has young children. It's tough to not say something to them!

Just remember Adriane, anything you do now to help your child is better than what most children get. Everything will be fine. Have you thought about trying to purchase the YBCR series on ebay? I purchased it and it should be here very soon. It has dvd's that you use along with flashcards or LR. It seems to take some of the work out of it at least in the beginning.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Confused on how to use YBCR, Doman, and LR together
|
on: September 15, 2008, 03:41:34 PM

I have been consuming all this information and am halfway through the Doman, How to Teach Your Baby to Read book and now I am getting confused how I am going to use it with YBCR. YBCR seems to be a lot slower learning words than Doman teaches and YBCR exposes the words a lot longer than Doman reccomends. Has anyone used both reading methods at once successfully?

Hello and welcome Adriane, I am new here as well and have just recently discovered this whole right brain concept of learning. It is amazing isn't it. I can sense your enthusiasm coming from your post and I feel the same way as you.

This is really amazing groundbreaking stuff! I can't believe that more people don't know about this. I have only told my mother in law about teaching Ava to read. She thinks it's awesome, but I do think she is skeptical. I won't tell my father because he's too judgemental and will tell me I'm crazy. I did some research and we have two Montesorri schools in my area and they both look excellent. Here is the one of them, http://www.qcms.org/ . Yes this is taking over my life and building an even better relationship with my daughter. Can you guys tell I'm excited?

Thank you for the warm welcome and thank you to KL for starting this forum. I have also just ordered domans books. After reading all this information about right brain learning it makes so much sense. I can't believe that this hasn't become a national thing taught in preparenting classes. I am starting to think the United States is way behind the learning curve when it comes to education of our children. Also I know my daughter is only 8 months old but I'm already thinking about kindergarden....she'll be so far ahead and board with the classes. We don't really have Montessorri schools here so not sure what to do. I know this is way off in the future.

Then I found this site and the youtube video's and it's all I've been able to think about since. Right brain teaching truely is amazing and very exciting. I have ordered ybcr and downloaded LR and am ready to start learning with my daughter. Great forum!
