Mamaofwill,

Nice work.  $125 seems like a fair price.  I'll have to ask the wife though.  Are you considering buying it?

2  Products Marketplace / Product Discussions and Reviews / Re: Chess at 3 on: January 13, 2014, 04:06:48 PM
My twins will be 3 at the end of this month.  I want them to know how to play chess at an early age.  I do have some chess mats that hang on walls with pieces that look like cards that slide into a plastic pocket.  Every now and then, I'll do the first 5-10 moves of a chess opening and leave it for the children to see for a few days.  I also have a video by Susan Polgar that  is somewhat entertaining for children to watch.  I also purchased 5 chess mats with the pieces so that when we do start playing, that we can play multiple games at once or each child can play at the same time and we'll have an extra chess set for illustration or for playing out ideas.  If they get into chess tournaments, they will already have chess sets. Hopefully this works out as planned.

This "Chess at Three" seems like a great idea.  I'd like to check it out more.  One thing I did notice though is that lesson 1 is "Free".  The other 19 lessons or so cost money.  My computer won't open up their pricing options, but I think that it's a glitch with their website.  Anyways, if you've been able to find out what the whole curriculum costs, I'd love to get the details.

Lesson 1 was very well done.  The idea of King Fischer going from one square to another (1 square at a time) is a great idea to help children learn how pieces move.

I enjoyed the samples as well.  My gut feeling is that if someone spent all the time and effort to create such an appealing product, its gotta be worth it.  I purchased mine, and I can't wait to receive it.

John

EDIT:  I had a small issue/inquiry regarding being charged tax just before hitting the final button to complete transaction.  I contacted Little Champion Reader via email.  Suprisingly, I received a response within 30 minutes stating that they had resolved the issue with their website and the order would go through properly. Yes, the issue was resolved.  I placed my order Oct 25, and received the package at 12:20 pm on Oct. 29.  That included a weekend.  In other words, the free shipping was not only free, it was also exceedingly fast for being free. Customer service was helpful and courteous.  Package was as stated (looks professional).  I'll update once I've had a chance to see the content of the dvd's, flashcards, books, etc...
P.S.  Product made in China (if anyone had to know).

5  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Olfactory training for infants on: August 25, 2013, 08:43:04 PM
Hi.

I did some training on my own.  I would take pieces of paper and scent them with flavors like lemon, mint, orange, some perfumes, etc... Make sure you waft it in front of their face/nose at a safe distance so that they don't breath in such a concentrated amount of whatever you are having them smell.  I didn't stick with it though but that is only because teaching and reading can be so time consuming with 3 children.  Did it work?   hm...  My guess is that it helped in some way.  My 2 1/2 year olds are multi-lingual and appear to process information easily. Of course I can't say that doing olfactory training is responsible for it because we do many things.  LR, LM, Lmus, piano lessons, drum lessons, Sparkabilities, Tweedlewink, Alphablocks, Signing times (American Sign Language), art, cooking (to some extent), swimming, and read approximately 8-10 books daily.

My advise would be to try it and stick with it.  Do it in a fun and loving  way and there is no way you can go wrong.  Will you see a difference???  Hm...  I don't know.

Hope that helps.

I wonder if there will be a free day for the android app next week.  Is next week when we can download the adroid app or can we download it today as well and just activate it next week? Any ideas?

7  Products Marketplace / Product Discussions and Reviews / Re: Tweedlewink - Video Quality on: August 07, 2013, 04:39:02 PM
Panaromix,

I recently purchased Tweedlewink.  We are on dvd #3.  I have a 55" plasma TV and the picture quality seems appropriate for the content.  I've seen richer sharper colors/objects with other programs but I don't see any issues on my end.  The cable going from my DVD player to the TV is an HDMI cable though.  What cable are you using going from dvd player to TV?  Not trying to say that's your problem....  just saying perhaps you are running into a cable resistance issue or something like that.  TV is 1.5 years old, DVD player is 1.5 years old as well.

Greetings!  Flashcards are a fun way to teach.  If you are making them yourself, it might be time consuming.  Your child will love to learn.  Best of all is that you are spending quality time in a loving environment.  Enjoy and good luck.

Your flashcards look professional.  Mind if I ask where you purchased them?

13  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Pregnancy, Japanese and the Periodic Table on: July 31, 2013, 03:14:27 PM
Tanikit,

Wow, I love the challenging situation you are in!  If I were in the same situation, I'd be so excited to accomplish those tasks.  I especially like your *Speak japanese, but not fluently*  I immediately thought of the Silly memory game as a way to teach the periodic table.  You'd have to come up with a story and make flash cards, but it's definitely something that can be done.  If that is too much, why not just do flashcards doman style?  Why not make a file to play in Little reader?

As far as speaking japanese properly, if nobody here can help you, I will try to get in tough with a good friend of mine who married a japanese wife. I know he speaks japanese fluently  I'm sure she would help you out as well.  Try to get help here first and if need be, I'll try to track down my friend.

You can do it!  I can't wait to hear about baby #3 on the way.

Liesel,

After searching 'early learning' and 'homeschooling' sites for nearly a month, checking online thrift store, amazon, craigslist, and ebay, I finally gave up and purchased the product from the company.  Although I did find the tweedlewink dvds on ebay, the price was far too expensive for being used.  I tried to bargain with the seller, and they wouldn't budge.  I purchased a 15% discount from the 'points redemption' area of brillkids and in my opinion got a good deal at the right brain kids website. You could always ask some brillkids members to search craigslist in their hometowns and let you know if they find anything.  I hope this helps.
