Anyone interested in my dot cards? I spent hours lovingly placing each red sticker, but I am ready to give them up. If you are interested let me know. I am in the US. They are about 12 " x 12" but if you want exact dimensions let me know. I have 100 cards.

Do you still use "Talking from Infancy"? If so, how do you do it or what does a "lesson" look like for you guys? I kept a list of my sons words too until he reached a hundred and then it was pointless. We did signing and it doubled his expressive vocabulary. For some reason some words he could say and not sign and other words he could sign and not say. Other words he would do both like "more". Have you considered signing with him too? Just curious. Thanks for the update.

wow! you are so lucky! You can easily teach him four languages. We are just doing English and Spanish and our son is competent in both languages. English is my native language and Spanish is my husbands but we both speak both. I have done most of the teaching of both languages to my son as my husband isn't around as much and doesn't talk a lot. newborns are learning the sounds of languages more than anything so I mostly speak to her in English and let my husband's family speak to her in Spanish at this point. She won't learn the sounds of Spanish from me because I am not a native speaker. but you don't really need any resources. If you speak to them they learn! Its like magic! In a month or so I will introduce simple books like a my first words book. You can easily translate them into whatever language you wish as you read. This is great for vocabulary development. You can read other books as well. If you use LittleReader you can download files in different languages. The most important thing though is just talking and interacting with your baby. This is the most effective way to teach languages.

oh sorry, dot cards are for teaching quantity and math from Doman's book How to Teach Your Baby Math. LittleMath is based off that program. My son loved the cards as a little baby but lost interest as it seems many babies do. I already have the cards so I'll probably use them again mainly for visual stimulation. I am not convinced that it is worth more than that. maybe it is, but It didn't seem to do much for us. In any case it can't hurt if she enjoys it.
I made the crawling track. You can buy one on the gentle revolution website but it is something like $400. I knew hubby would never go for that. The one I made could have turned out better but I am hoping to only use it a few months! I think it has already helped her alot. She can lift her head pretty high and hold it steady for a while like that. The doctor commented at her two week visit that she was already trying to crawl. She wasn't actually getting anywhere but she was pushing her feet like she does on the track.
As for the potty, babies naturally go when you take off their diaper as they instinctively don't want to go on themselves. So it does't take long to put them on the potty. If they are going to go they will do it pretty quickly. she'll start to get mad if I hold her there too long. When she goes I celebrate with her and say "Poopy!!!" or " Pee Pee!" so that she learns to associatle the word with going. I hope that helps!

Congrats! My little girl is the same age! When my first was born I started dot cards and words at three weeks. This time around I am going to wait until she is at least two months. They can't see very well at this age and I feel like there are more important things. This time around I am doing the physical program with her (a modest version of it). We have a crawling track. I was Shocked how she went down that thing at just a couple of days old. I was not expecting that so young! We are also doing elimination communication part time. Which just basically consists of me placing her on the potty every time I change her diaper. I wasn't really planning on doing this but it has been so easy that why not? She actually does seem to know what to do and I always feel glad that what ever is in the potty is not going to be in her diaper five minutes later! I am also trying to keep things well lit in the house to help her vision. I talk to her when she is quiet alert. I tell her nursery rhymes, sing and sometimes practice vowel sounds with her to see if she'll repeat anything and I try to repeat whatever sounds she makes which at this point is not much This is part of the sound play in William Fowler's language program. Other than that I am trying to practice good habits to hopefully help her future sleep! I try to sometimes put her down while she is still awake to see if she'll fall asleep on her own. She actually does. Ian never did but maybe it didnt occur to me to try. This time I know sleep is going to be important to both of us! For sleep II recommend the book The No Cry Sleep Solution. Good luck! Can't wait to hear updates about your little one!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: My 22 month old doesn't show me that she can recognise words after using LR

I asked the same question when my son was the same age here too. We switched methods. I started focusing on phonological awareness and then phonics with readingbear and daddudes flashcards. For phonological awareness We sang the name song a lot. "Molly, bolly, bo bolly, fanana fana fo folly...." And " Willowby walloby, wolly...an elephant sat on Molly...". We had lots of belly laughs! When I saw he was learning to blend I just decided he was not a whole word learner. We then tried preschool prep meet the sight words and he learned the words from the series. I still didn't think he was much of a whole word learner as this program is different. The words are pictures. . How could he not learn the words? I decided to then try Monkisee because I heard good things about the program and I thought maybe dvds were more entertaining and therefor he might absorb more. we did the flashcards with the dvds and he learned the words so so fast I was shocked. I felt like we had zero success for almost 2 years then little by little we had more, and when we started monkisee he was learning so fast! We moved on to flash cards from the dollar store and have continued phonics. I write him short stoies about spiderman or whatever he is interested in and I read them to him with my finger under the words. There are no pictures so he has nowhere else to look! We have done a lot of different things according to his interest. I guess my point is to try something else. Relax about it and focus on making the learning quality time between the two of you and you can't go wrong. I also nursed my guy while watching LR. I don't know if that affected it or not. I have a new two week old little baby. I can't wait to see how things go with her! Good luck! Let us know how things go.

Hola! Sorry for not responding earlier. I have been busy having a baby! My little princess was born healthy and we have fallen deeply in love with her already. Here is a translation. It's not exact but I think it is more how we would say what you are trying to say. Vamos a quitarte la ropita para darte un baño fresquito lleno de espuma y burbujas. Let's take off your clothes so you can take a nice fresh bath with lots of foamy bubbles.

poner los seguros is lock the door. There s also a child safety lock which is what you are talking about I think.
you can say Don't play with your food. Did you have fun at nursery school this morning? Don't spit out your food. Yucky don't touch that. I would just say stay on the sidewalk (please) or stay out of the street. Or, stay close to me please, or wait for me please.
I think everything else looks good. There is a lot to say about getting dressed.
Look at this pretty shirt. Put your head through, now put your right arm in the sleeve, now your left. Let's button you up (if it has buttons). Here is a nice clean, dry diaper. (you can make the diaper talk, move it like a mouth). Hi baby! will you put me on? Wonderful! (you talking again) Let's fasten the right side, now the left. Time to put on your pants. Aren't these cute! Put your left leg in. now your right. Over your diaper now. Let's button the button and zip up the zipper. Time for your socks and shoes. Which go on first? We put our socks on before our shoes! Here is a sock for your right foot. Here is one for your left. Now here is your right shoe, it goes on your right foot. Now here is your left shoe it goes on your left foot. Look! Now you are all dressed! ARe you ready to go play?
ThAt's a lot I know. Hopefully it helps. If you can write it in Spanish it would be very helpful! Thiank you!

Hi nuria2012!
I hope this helps: subir/bajar las ventanas del auto: roll up/roll down the window tocar la pita (el claxon): honk the horn dar una vuelta: go for a drive Do you want (would you like) me to open the window so you can have some fresh air?
another note...we don't really say unquiet...maybe you can say active/fussy/being a trouble maker ( travieso). Maybe someone else has a better word.

Thanks for the thread. dH who is a native Spanish speaker is absolutely useless for translations. God bless him. The problem is when I look things up he and his family then make fun of me because that's not how they say it intheir country. I don't care though we don't live in their country. Most Spanish speaking people around here are from Mexico and central america anyway. So it is fine if my guy learns other ways of saying things. I just dont want them to make fun of my son because I am afraid he will get discouraged. They are not mean about it. they just tease. For car seats there is the front seat, back seat, driver's seat, passenger's seat, driver's side and passenger's side. The maletera is the trunk. The kid's seat s simply a car seat, for older kids they use a booster seat. The car's lights are called head lights. what are they in Spanish? I can't think of anything else to add.
