Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: Brainy Baby Sale

My girls love Brainy Baby. They can watch it many times in a day than YBCR. It's very educational. Brainy Baby ABC's, 123's, Shapes & Color, & Right Brain are their favorites. They didn't care for the Brainy Baby Animals, they just love the Old Macdonalds & that's it, but I think it's a great video as well. They'll probably like it someday.
What I like about the Brainy Baby 123's, it has more counting over Pre School Prep & Baby Einstein. It counts up to 20, whereas Preschool Prep up to 10, & Baby Einstein Numbers 1-5. It has several formats of counting like showing the number of objects as the voice counts; or the objects are displayed first then numbers will appear on the object as the voice counts; or the numeric number is displayed then the objects appear as the voice counts;or the objects or numbers will display one by one without the voice over, it gives the child her/his turn to count. I like this part, unlit candles display on the screen, and then light one by one as the voice count. My twins love the counting song on fingers.
For the Brainy Baby ABC's it's like this: Big A, little a. A makes two sounds. A A A Ape, A A A Apple, etc. Big B, little b. The letter b says, b b b balloon, b boy. Big C, little c. The letter C makes 2 sounds. C C C circus, C C C cat. etc. After every 5 letters, they repeat the letters by a test, like a woman voice will ask, "What sound does letter A makes?" A girl voice will answer, "letter A makes 2 sounds, A A Acorn, A A Ants". The songs might not be as catchy as Baby Signing Time but my girls still like the songs esp. the 2 little girls singing their ABC's.
And for the Brainy Baby Shapes & Colors. The shapes includes Circle, Square, Triangle, Rectangle, star, Diamond, Heart, Oval, Crescent, Pentagon, Hexagon, and Octagon. The colors are Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Orange, Purple, Brown, Pink, Black, White, Silver & Gold. I like how they present the shapes & colors in this video like circle for pancake, triangle for pizza, "a banana is shaped like a crescent, sometimes a moon is shaped like a crescent", "an octagon has 8 sides, a stop sign is an octagon", "a diamond looks like 2 triangles put together", "An oval looks like a circle that's been stretched". And for the colors, they show few objects in a color. Like for the color red: Apples, strawberries, tomatoes, red hearts. "This color is red.", "The flower is red"., "What color is this? Red, she's drawing a Red flower. I personally love the song in this video, "I'm sitting on Green Grass, under a Blue Sky. Eating Red Apples in the Yellow Sunshine".

With all your good reviews, I'm convinced that I will let my hubby buy this. But, I'm still confused what really should I get among Intellectual Baby, Mercury Learning, Wink to Learn & this. All of these must be good, but I don't think he'll buy it all after knowing I didn't use the baby bumblebee anymore & the Little Einstein set (aside from the music) because of the bad reviews. My twins love their LR, LM, YBCR Set, Baby Signing Time 1-4, Brainy Baby DVDs, Little Pim Spanish, Preschool Prep, and some Spanish learning DVDs for kids. What do you think will be the best additional???

We have Little Pim Spanish. I like it, because I'm learning spanish too. My babies are still in "getting-to-know stage", once they've watch it a couple of times, I know it will be part of their favorite learning videos. Even the Baby Signing Time, they didn't like it right away but now it's their favorite.

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: What are your thoughts on co-sleeping with your baby? When & how to stop it?
|

Thank you all for the replies & links. I think those are all very helpful but it's easier said than done because it's not just my babies who's having problems sleeping, I too. I missed sleeping with my husband but I am now used to sleeping with my babies. When I tried to sneak off to sleep with my hubby in our bedroom, it's not just the babies who cannot sleep all through the night, I'm having difficulty sleeping too. There are lots of "what if" running on my mind, so I'm scared to just let them sleep by themselves. When the babies wake up & cry, I never have second thought of just sleeping with them instead.
I just wonder, if I continue to co-sleep with them, will co-sleeping stops naturally or it wont stop until they are teenagers?

Hello Twinergy! Yeah my twins are only couple of months younger than yours. Until when you will co-sleep them? I am not sure if I'm an Attachment Parenting but I think I am, I always try to be as attentive & be with them all the time. I'm worried though if I might overdo it because I also don't want them to grow very dependent on me. I just like to build close relationship with them as I am/was not too close to my parents. (I mean, like, I feel awkward saying "I love U" to them verbally, only through cards on special occasions). Yep I sleep in-between them & yeah they are night weaned. They sleep all night through as long as I am with them, sometimes they wake up but they will just move beside or cuddle on me then back to sleep. Are you an Attachment Parenting? Are they breastfeed? If so, how you do it? Mine were breastfed but only with expressed milk.

My babies sleep with me until now, or should I say, I still sleep with my babies 'coz I sleep with them on their room. I really don't know how to end this... I want to do the right thing but I never really wanted to.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Any mom still uses real flashcard?
|
on: May 20, 2009, 01:14:36 AM

Me, I am still using real flash cards. We have YBCR word cards & game cards, and my babies love it. I used to make my own flash cards with self-sealing laminating pouches, but I saw the YBCR double-sided sliding word & picture card on youtube, I liked the idea that you can pull the card & there will show the photo describing the word. So I convinced my hubby to buy one, we just bought the YBCR books set since we already have YBCR DVDs & it's really worth the money.

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: Translating LR files
|
on: May 20, 2009, 01:11:26 AM

I don't think LR can translate English to any other languages. This is not a software for that. But you can still use it as a tool for learning another language for your baby, you just have to translate the words manually. You can find a free translator on the internet. I have uploaded some files in french (if you like you can check it out), and I will be uploading more soon.
No, you will not erase .cat file with the english word & pronunciation if you rename it. What I did on my LR, I put the files (same object) together on the same category even they are of different language. Like the word butterfly, first the word in english then it's picture; and then "le papillon"(butterfly in french) & another picture of butterfly. Hope this will help.
