1  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Do you want to share your favorite Ipad apps? on: March 21, 2014, 05:52:28 AM
Talking Alphabet, Endless Alphabet, Endless Reader, Little Speller, Abby Basic Skills, Reading Raven, Writing Wizard (easier than Letter School)

TouchMath Adventures, Bugs & Numbers

My Little Piano, Baby Chords (both work well with LM)

(Also have Early Learning Academy, Hooked on Phonics, and Learn with Homer but like Reading Raven best.)
2  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Music / Re: Play, Sing & Share IPad App from Cambridge English on: July 22, 2013, 08:20:49 PM
So I checked the My Little Piano App with Little Musician and it matches very well (The Sol on My Little Piano is a little lighter blue - not a big deal). The middle Red Do key is Middle C, chords match up well with LMs (have to play So Ti Re an octave lower).
3  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Music / Re: Play, Sing & Share IPad App from Cambridge English on: July 22, 2013, 07:15:18 PM
I found another Piano App called My Little Piano Lite by White Vortex and the pluses are its free, has two octaves, and the colors are matched to Little Musician. It's also available on IPad, Kindle, and other Android devices. Keys are labeled "Do Re Mi." I think Do is C but someone else should check. Playing the piano makes cute animals jump across the top of the screen that will pop and disappear if you tap them. There are no black keys and there is one small ad. I bought the pay version called My Little Piano for 99 cents just to get rid of the ad so my daughter wouldn't tap it in her enthusiasm.

Free version comes with piano play button, solfege chant button where little kid says solfege names for the keys (not sung or this might be useful) and a cricket button that teaches one free song (Baa Baa Black Sheep) with a little hand that points to the correct keys. I didn't really like it because there was no indication how many times you had to hit the same key. It would be better if there were color-coded lyrics at the top.

Pay version has button to switch to xylophone which is nice. Also an animal key replaces "Do Re Mi" with a different animal head for each color of key (7 different animal heads, repeated for same colors) and tapping the key makes animal sounds. This could be useful if the heads were bigger but they're pretty small. An ABC button chants the name of the animals when the keys are tapped.  The cricket button teaches four addition songs - Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Old Mac Donald, London Bridge Is Falling Down, and Hush Little Baby.

5  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Music / Play, Sing & Share IPad App from Cambridge English on: July 22, 2013, 05:20:42 AM
So I paid 99 cents for this App and I think it's well worth it. Comes with color-coded lyrics and letter notes for Baa Baa Black Sheep, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Incy Wincy Spider. However, you can play whatever you want. App has a touch color-coded keyboard with keys from I believe Middle C to the next highest C (whatever that's called). All the black keys work too. The keyboard can sound like a piano, a synthesizer, or a xylophone. White keys are color-coded like Little Musician except the B is more of a red-violet than a pink, and the second C is a warm pink. Keys are labeled with "C D E" also. Tunes played on the piano can be recorded, listened to, and emailed from the IPad. Recordings sound slightly fuzzy but okay. Oh, you can sing and it will record that as well.

The three included songs have their own keyboard screen with buttons for sound effects like a sheep "baa-ing" for Baa Baa Black Sheep. Each keyboard has 8 different sound effects buttons above it and also at the top a button for a man to sing the lyrics that you can accompany on the mini-keyboard. There is also a button for the melody for the song to play without the lyrics that can also be accompanied.

Thanks! Adding it to my list. Found these too:

These videos are apparently related to an IPad app by DreamEnglishKids called Play Sing & Share.
7  Products Marketplace / Product Discussions and Reviews / Color Piano! App for Google Chrome Browser on: July 21, 2013, 10:21:19 PM
This Piano App is pretty awesome.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/color-piano/ihmigmmflfcbhdpdgbkkeojchjhhphnh?hl=en

LMs color scale is like the "Isaac Newton Color Scale" from 1704 and the default for the Color Piano is "D. D. Jameson Color Scale" from 1844 that is based on the Isaac Newton Color Scale with intermediate colors for sharps/flats. Comes with Dance of the Red Flutes from the Nutcracker. You can drag and drop MIDI files onto the Color Piano browser window to make them play. To play another song just click "Toggle File Browser" and then download any song you want. For more MIDI files, the following site has a ton of Classical MIDI files but it isn't free (14 day trial):

On a side note, this page is interesting.

http://mudcu.be/journal/2011/01/color-piano-theory/

Apparently what I'm looking for is an "Isaac Newton Color Scale" according to the chart on the page.

11  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Music / Fretless Finger Guide for Violin, Viola on: July 21, 2013, 06:06:37 AM
http://www.fretlessfingerguides.com/

From the site:

The Guide is one piece, made of clear cling vinyl
No need to loosen or remove the strings to put it on
Easy on, easy off. Goes on in seconds
Uses no glues or adhesives, clings to itself not to your instrument
Never use sticky violin finger tapes or position marker strips again

The color coding of the notes is different than LM, and doesn't appear to be available in 1/4 violin unfortunately.

13  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Music / NoteWorks by DOReMi World for the IPad on: February 18, 2013, 09:12:56 PM
I just tried out this music learning game on the IPad and I really like it. I don't think my daughter is ready for it but it helped me shake off some rust. I was much better at the Do Re Mi note matching than the C D E note matching, so I think LMs is working on me LOL. Here is the online description page.

14  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Music / Re: Good Songs with "Do Re Mi?" on: February 18, 2013, 07:31:00 PM
Here's a good one teaching how to play several nursery rhymes and Do Re Mi from the Sound of Music on a Xylophone (same colors as LMs)

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/AexkOlhqZK4&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/AexkOlhqZK4&rel=1</a>

And this is the Whacky Do Re Mi with the same colors as LMs

15  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Music / Re: Good Songs with "Do Re Mi?" on: February 18, 2013, 07:11:32 PM
Thanks for all the helpful comments guys! I will probably hold off on showing my daughter the Aristocats song now that I know that Do is C#. Those videos are great. By the way, there's another Whacky Do Re Mi song on Youtube that uses the same colors for the notes as LMs, so I've been showing that one to her.
