Hi babymum.  smile

I will try my best to answer your question as I am not an expert in using features of Youtube as well. I just use Youtube mainly to upload videos (as my relatives on the other side of the world are happy to see Megan in videos) and to view some educational videos. Instead of looking up again and again those useful videos that my little one likes to watch, I just created a playlist for her.

Anyway, when I added the Kids Stories playlist, I clicked the "Options" button (found in the playlist bar at the buttom of the screen) then clicked "Save as a new playlist" and add a Playlist Title, which is a pretty easy step, to save the entire playlist automatically(wherein the Kids Stories consists of 15 videos). Rather than creating a new playlist and adding each video url one by one.

Reading your question makes me browse Youtube more, specifically to look at the "Add to" button(add to FAVORITES or PLAYLIST) and to test the function of the Favorite feature. When you "favorited" a video in Youtube (once logged in to Youtube. Note that this is different than using the "Favorite" feature of your browser) it will be saved in your Favorites. You can't create folder/s under Favorites but you can add the videos in your Favorites list to your playlists.

With playlists, you can create several playlist names/titles (which act as a folder to categorize your videos). I think playlists are useful especially if you have several videos you want to categorize. Like, for example, you want to categorize your youtube videos by subjects-Science, Math, Geography, etc.

Playlists in youtube, unlike adding links to folders in your browser's favorites/bookmarks, allow you to play all videos in the playlist with one click (just click on the playlist name), whereas with links saved in folders in your browser, you have to click each one to advance to the next video.

Starting this month I want to be organized so I might be busy adding more educational videos in my playlists.

@ Lelask: You're welcome and congratulations! I'm so happy for your child's reading progress.  smile

Wow Manda! Congratulations!  smile
Your kids are into it! It's awesome that they can tell you some info about their chosen countries. I want to organize the lessons I will be teaching Megan starting this month so everthing will go smoothly next month.  smile

Hi Lelask.
I would be happy to share with you our reading schedule.

Mondays through Fridays we do Little Reader, in the morning and after her naptime in the late afternoon. In addition to reading with the Little Reader software, she also reads books in the morning. Her favorite hard covered book is THE BIKE LESSON (Another Adventure of the Berenstain Bears). She find the book pretty funny with lots of giggles. In the late afternoon, we also add some kids stories saved on my playlist:

http://www.youtube.com/user/myfaves09/videos?view=1
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL764EA6AF90CBC533&feature=plcp

I just click pause on the video and she reads it before the story teller reads it. Megan likes animated stories online.
I gave cokers4life a karma for her previous post about the FREE year subscription to Ebooks which Megan is using. The site has lots of stories and she likes some of the SONGS which even have lyrics that you can read/sing (the pause button is a help).

Megan loves starfall.com as well.

Hi Tam (kiwimum)! I just opened my FB before going to bed last night (haven't been  active there for a while) and saw your message about Chloe's progress and her video. Congratulations! I enjoyed watching her video. Awesome job! Keep it up!

Btw, about the question you left at FB, (thought I will just answer it here)---If Megan skips days
reading?

Yes, we went through almost 3 weeks of not reading for some family vacation and she never had a problem reading her previous lessons. She's also more excited in reading new stories as well. In normal days, we do Little Reader Mondays thru Fridays. Weekends are family days for us, and we spend our days with relatives or going outdoors.

Hi Tanvi. You are most welcome. smile

Hi Manda. You are right!  smile  The toy is not made in Australia but imported from another country. Thank you for clarifying it to Tanvi. I should have typed my previous post clearly.  smile

(previous post)
"For some reason I thought the product was made in Australia, but other than that I am satisfied with the product as my baby loves it"

I should have said that: "For some reason I thought the product was made in Australia when I placed my order, but when it arrived I found out that it's made in another country, other than that I am satisfied with the product as my baby loves it."

Manda, that's cool that your 3 kids sing together the continents of the world song! And  I am imagining your cool son making funny stuff while learning geography on the toilet!  laugh

Megan can draw circles but not that perfect yet, but she's getting there. I like ALL your tips and ideas on teaching how to write! I will surely apply them. Ah! Crayola's washable markers are great! That's what Megan needs. Thank you so much for the suggestion!  smile

Kerileanne & Manda, I downloaded the Stack the States and Stack the Countries and I love it. I will play it on my free time and will teach Megan when I've mastered it.

Keri, I googled Rantek Inc. (http://www.mobilemontessori.org/) and there are lots of pretty neat apps out there! Thank you so much! By the way, I subscribed to your YouTube channel and left a message for Alex in her Stack the States video.  smile

Hi Lelask. Great job for you and your little one in doing the geography!
Thanks for mentioning the Geopuzzle. I will give it a try too!  smile
9  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: When to Teach WRITING? on: June 14, 2012, 04:12:30 AM
Hi mypashmina. Is this the same Kumon Wipeable letters your son used?

http://www.amazon.com/Write-Lowercase-Letters-Kumon-Flash/dp/1933241446/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_c

Your son is doing great in writing! Awesome!
I subscribed to your youtube channel by the way.  smile

I will check the Letterschool app too! Thanks Korrale4kq!  smile

Thank you so much Manda, Hypatia, Kerileanne, and Tanvi for the kind words! I really appreciate them.

What a great suggestion Manda! I will check out some of those pencil grips at Amazon or look for them at Walmart. I haven't taught her how to write letters and numbers yet but she loves to scribble with colors and use her FP Doodle Pro for drawing. She likes to mimic me drawing her favorite toy bear (I just draw it with a bunch of circles, and she can mimic me drawing circles) and draw our family-mommy, daddy and Megan. One time she surprised me with her drawing. She was pointing at her drawing and said "This is daddy!". Her drawing looks more like a cat! LOL But I love it! Thank you so much for the great suggestion and for the overwhelming compliment!

Hi Kimba. I love that idea! I will definitely apply your idea too when my baby gets a little older to learn how to cut and paste. A good  way of introducing arts to her too aside from learning geography. Thank you so much for the link. I will browse your blog to get more educational ideas. Thank you so much!

Hi Hypatia. Thank you so much for the Karma! smile  I don't mind sharing my baby's video. That's really good how your daughter likes to imitate children in videos doing educational stuff. The same way with Megan, I show her some videos in YouTube of children doing puzzles, etc and she likes mimicking them. She also likes to mimic Yakko pointing at the countries (like in the video above-Nations of the World by Animaniacs). She likes to use a ruler to point out the countries in our wall map.

I actually started putting videos of my baby in Youtube to share with my mom and relatives back home what my baby is up to. They're always asking if Megan has new videos. My homeland is actually on the other side of the world from where I live now.  When I joined Brillkids I shared some of her videos as well and thought some parents may like the ideas on the videos too.

Hi Kerileanne! Alex playing Stack the States and stack the Countries is really awesome! Great job Alex! How old was she when she started playing it? Manda also suggested that I check out Stack the Countries a few months ago (Thanks again, Manda!) and I checked the demo in Youtube. It seems too advanced for my baby at that time as the game involves rotating the country before you stack it, etc. but it seems like a really great app! And thank you so much  Kerileanne for mentioning this game app. I am inspired by Alex and I may start playing it myself first before teaching Megan.

I have seen those Geo card games before at Amazon  too and thank you so much for the helpful review! I added them to my list to buy.

Hi Tanvi. I've searched for that toy at Amazon and Ebay when I was looking to purchase it before but no luck. I will help you recheck it though. I will let you know if I found one.

I stumbled upon an Australian shopping site which leads me to DinoDirect and bought it which cost a total of $32 including shipping(I chose regular mail- 7 to 14 business days), and $2 insurance(optional).
http://www.dinodirect.com/flag-inserted-in-world-map-toys-children-s-educational-currency-AUD.html

For some reason I thought the product was made in Australia, but other than that I am satisfied with the product as my baby loves it. She always gets the basket where I stored the flags and says "play flags!" You may want to check out Kerileanne's link to Flags of the World toy too! Thanks for the compliment on Megan, by the way.
11  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: When to Teach WRITING? on: June 12, 2012, 06:50:40 PM
Hi ansisari. I found this video in youtube that teaches how to write the ABC's and 123's to 3 and 4 year olds and it seems like a helpful one. I will try this with my daughter in the future:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/omWtg5hLTQ8&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/omWtg5hLTQ8&rel=1</a>

Writing Exercise books may help too:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/h2uhcUAIhBE&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/h2uhcUAIhBE&rel=1</a>

Brillkids have FREE downloadable tracing activitity sheets for writing letters and and numbers too!
http://www.brillkids.com/free-download/activity-sheets.php

If your daughter just likes to draw for now. Maybe you could say for example when she's drawing a zigzag "That zigzag makes a letter Z". That the curve she's drawing is like a letter C. That the circle can be a letter O or can be made into Q.  Or That her drawing of Snake also looks like a letter S in the alphabet. Maybe if she learns that her drawing can make letters she will be interested in learning how to write more letters. Just a thought.  smile
12  Products Marketplace / Product Discussions and Reviews / Re: Soft Mozart- New Software on: June 12, 2012, 06:44:05 PM
Hi Manda!  Yep, I really enjoyed the video of Jaykob singing Solfege for the chickens and playing piano with rubber gloves. I can't help laughing!  LOL

Wow! congratulations to Jaykob for winning that award! He deserves it!

I am looking forward to seeing more of your videos in Youtube. Btw, you did a great job in playing piano and teaching your
kids! You make learning fun and enjoyable for them! What a cool momma you are!

I do hope that SoftMozart will get the funding too.
13  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Other Topics / Re: How do you teach geography? on: June 10, 2012, 10:09:01 PM
I taught my daughter US geography with Melissa and Doug USA Wooden Map puzzle. This puzzle helps develop my baby's fine motor skills as well.

We also use USA, Canada, Australian and South American Map Puzzle iPad apps by Jenny Sun.

We also have a US Map and World Map sticking on our wall and my baby likes pointing at states or countries whenever she feels like it.

We watch countries of the World Songs by kidsTV123.

My baby enjoys watching these videos as well:

THE CONTINENT SONG:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/apIzM6rywf0&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/apIzM6rywf0&rel=1</a>

THE 50 STATES SONG:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/I1vFDZvwpfU&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/I1vFDZvwpfU&rel=1</a>

50 STATES THAT RHYME:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/uUFeVKeKRQc&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/uUFeVKeKRQc&rel=1</a>

ANIMANIACS VIDEO OF WAKKO'S FAMOUS 50 STATE CAPITOLS SONG:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/MSvJ9SN8THE&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/MSvJ9SN8THE&rel=1</a>

NATIONS OF THE WORLD BY ANIMANIACS/WARNER BROTHERS:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/o1RjI7G8rFw&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/o1RjI7G8rFw&rel=1</a>

FLAGS:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/d1rahaLQNSM&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/d1rahaLQNSM&rel=1</a>

In teaching my baby an introduction to World Geography and World flags, she loves the Wooden World Map where you can insert flags in it. This also helps in developing her fine motor skills. She never gets tired of playing with this toy and always asks for it:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/c9Scl1vT9nY&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/c9Scl1vT9nY&rel=1</a>

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/NdDiaS4jMLE&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/NdDiaS4jMLE&rel=1</a>

She also used Identify the World Flag Game app:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/dbpow0lLG10&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/dbpow0lLG10&rel=1</a>

Btw, has anyone had an experience
playing with GeoPuzzles by GeoToys for their 1-2 years old? Thanks!

14  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Alphabet on: June 10, 2012, 09:57:34 PM
Thank you so much for the compliment CVMomma. I think I can't add anymore suggestions to the awesome advice from the parents in this thread. So I will just share my baby's experience when she just started spelling out words with Leapfrog word builder(3 letter word builder). There were times when she grabbed the last letter first and put it in the last hole. For example, when I asked her to spell bat. She'll grab the letter t (she'll say the letter and sound it out) and put it in the last spot. So if she did, I would ask her to start with the first letter first, then the second next, then the third. Now she knows what the first, second and third means  (a good intro for Math too) aside from knowing her phonics.  smile

Hi Kaysha. Have you decided to buy the alphabet stamps? Would love to know if your son likes playing with them. I'm thinking of buying more fridge magnets or those stamps in a couple of months. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Nuria! Yup those are good videos!
15  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Baby reading on: June 10, 2012, 09:50:41 PM
Hi Manda. It's really a great feeling whenever the kids surprise us with the things we don't know they already know. Thank you so much for the compliment on my daughter and Karma to you for being one of the most supportive parents in this forum!

Hi Krista. Thank you so much for the kind words. Yup! she loves mimicking my behavior and I have to wipe my monitor often. But a few days ago, I asked her not to touch the screen and now she's just doing it in the air.  LOL
Btw, Karma to you!

Hi Mela. I enjoyed watching Cayden's video. Congrats and great job Cayden & mommy! He's such a cutie with a beautiful smiling face.
