BrillKids Software / Tech Support / Little Reader Touch not installing on my IPad
|
on: May 27, 2015, 06:51:14 PM
|
Hello, I have had Little Reader for a few years and I originally was using it on my iPad with iAcess (with iOS 5.1.1). It worked fine and then as my child got older we stopped using it. Now I would like to use it with my second child, but it no longer goes into my lessons, it says an update is needed. When I try to download the English Semester 1 or 2, it will install up to the 71% then shut down the app without installing the semesters. I've checked to see if I have the most recent version of Little Reader touch on my iPad and it says it is. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks

BrillKids Software / Little Musician - General Discussion / Little Musician on iPad?

I'm interested in downloading the trial of LMus, but we mainly use LR on the iPad (we don't currently have a PC that works so we have to use the iPad and thankfully I and baby prefer it anyway). Will LMus work on the iPad like LR? And if it doesn't, any suggestions on good programs or app for teaching music?

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: Who is using baby sign language?

I'm trying to figure out a way to incorporate sign language with my LR. I've been trying to sign the word in the multisensory part of the lesson (the word and picture flash phase of the lesson is too fast for me), but my baby's attention span reaches its max before the end of the multisensory phase. She also has shown little interest in the signing time videos so far, but I'm going to keep trying.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: How to start with 3 -month- old baby?

Not really for reading but some early learning you can do right away is June Oberlanders' Slow and Steady Get Me Ready Book. It has learning activities you can do with a newborn up to age 5. I just got it for my almost seven month old and I wish I had it from the start. They introduce reading and flash cards a little late in my opinion, but it still has a lot of great activities to do with baby.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Other Topics / Re: water phobia

My little cousin was afraid of the water for a looong time. He could float, but he hated going underwater and refused to learn how to do more than a thrashing dog paddle. I finally coaxed him into playing the diving game with his favorite candy ( Hershey kisses), bad, I know, but we were all out of ideas. We had pool rings and other toys that sank to the bottom. I threw them in the shallow end and promised him one kiss for each toy or ring he got back. After a few days he got over his fear/reluctance of going underwater and getting his face wet enough for me to teach him how to really swim. Now he's on his high school swim team going to state finals ~sigh~. I can't believe its already been that long.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Early Learning Toys You Can't Live Without

I desperately need to expand our learning toys, but I also have to give a shout out to the iPad. The sheer convenience of having Little Reader easily available (even the smaller course demo) when we're traveling and waiting, in the car, or just lounging on the couch has made a big difference in how much time we've spent looking at words. Of course, we also try to balance our time with books, but guess what- iPad has those too. I'm all about promoting traditional reading and downplaying tv time, but you can't deny that the iPad and technology like it is the future and will be around whether we promote it or not. Might as well teach moderation and self-control while they are young.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / How to increase exposure?
|
on: March 20, 2012, 10:02:57 AM

I am interested in teaching our child other languages (at least Spanish and hopefully Chinese or Japanese), but as I only speak English (though I do know a little Spanish), I'm worried about her not getting enough exposure. I think you have a better chance of learning a language if you are exposed to it often and with preferably native speakers, but I don't know anyone who is fluent in Chinese or Spanish in our area. Are there groups or activities a child can join where they would only speak that language? How do all of you increase your children's exposure to native speakers of other languages? I know I can turn on the Spanish channel for her on the TV, but I'm trying to minimize her tv exposure to educational programs only and I don't think Spanish soap operas can really count, .

EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Recommendations for a new parent?
|
on: March 15, 2012, 04:45:58 AM
|
Hi everyone! I just recently discovered Brillkids and Early Learning with my 3 month old. My husband and I are 80% sure we want to do homeschooling, so I was wondering as a first time parent where should I focus my research on curriculum and if there were any recommendations? I was also curious to the typical schedule people use, especially with a three month old. I am fortunate to work part time and to have family baby sitting for us, so I'm fairly flexible. Also, we only have one child now but we want more eventually, how do you incorporate multiple children in different ages? Basically I need a tutorial on home schooling, . Thanks!
