Thank-you!! Plugging heaps here in Aus. There are so many products that costs substantial $$$ and have never been quite what we needed. Then you come along with something that is just right FOR FREE!! The quality is amazing. I have said it before, but can't express how appreciative we are. Not even just for Reading Bear, but for the many other contributions that you make. From the time you spend providing input to forums to the wonderful article you wrote. I really have no fitting words. THANK-YOU!!

@DadDude My son has really enjoyed Reading Bear and I am looking forward to starting it with my daughter. At what age did you start showing it to E? My daughter is 6 months. Early on I just exposed her to lots of books. About a month ago we started YBCR and LR, LM & LM and she seems to be very interested in them (lots of smiles). She seems much more focused than my son was at the same age. I would love to know what activities you focused on with E when he was younger (say 6 months) and how often. I guess I should go back through your blog posts too.

My son is almost 4. We used LR when he was a baby. It is a great program. He didn't learn to read sentences from it, but I believe that this played a huge part in his understanding that words have meaning. As a baby he learned body parts, numbers, alphabet colours etc... significantly faster than his peers. He was also talking from 8 months. His ability to communicate made for a much happier baby in my opinion. For an older child it is good to teach facts along with reading as well as some phonics. Now that my son is older (as in your case), the Joneses Geniuses program has without a doubt been the most effective in helping my son to read sentences and go to the next level. I love it's simplicility. It is straight forward with no fancy bells and whistles. It just works! We have the Maths program from JG too which is also very good. Haven't had much luck with my son though. He flat out refuses to do it so I haven't pushed it. Will try again soon. I also recommend that you take a look at readingbear.org. It is a fantastic phonics based program. Best of all it is free. We have to thank Dadude for making it possible to have access to a free resource to help our kids learn to read. For math we also use singapore math earlybird kindergarten mathematics which has been good to teach basic key mathematical concepts.

Thank-you so much for all the hard work you have put in (and all others involved). It is looking great! The quiz is a great reinforcement tool. I agree that sound it out slowly should be phased out at some point. Don't have any ideas yet as we haven't got that far so will still be using it. I am really excited at the prospect that this could develop into an encyclopedic knowledge tool as well! (my son loves your videos) There just isn't really anything out there that offers clear explanations on various subjects for young children. I know that young children are capable of understanding so much when given the opportunity to have subjects presented in a clear and logical way.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: How many words did ur baby know (SPOKE) when he/she turned 1 yr old

My son began to say real words (other than Mum or Dad) such as dog and duck at 8 months. By 12 months he could say approximately 100 words (he also knew his age). He knew the alphabet at 14 months and started to put together short sentences at 16 months. He knew many sight words at one, but has since seemed to forget many of them. Now that he is coming up to 3 (May 30), he speaks quite clearly and has a large vocabulary. We used little reader and doman methods etc..., which I believe has contributed greatly. He does not however read fluently yet, but can sound out simple words phonetically.

We also live in Australia and Michael was able to send the discs here. We have volumes 1 & 2 as well as Songeez. Readeez has been a favourite in our house for a long time now. We love love love it! It never gets old. My son was enjoying it before he turned 2. He used to call it "Here we go" (words from song "Everybody clap your hands"). We can't wait for more. Michael has extraordinary talent and we are so lucky that he is committed to sharing his passion through Readeez.
