EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: How I taught James to read.

Thank you. I regret not keeping a record as we were going through the journey. I know there is a lot I have forgotten. I know we did other stuff. But in retrospect, this is what we did that worked. And it wasn't time consuming, and it doesn't have to be expensive or even difficult. We just did a lot of reading. That is what worked best.
Next goal is to go back and write about our math journey.
I would love to know about your math journey and what programs or apps did you use. I'm following Doman's style of teaching math right now but I'm not very consistent with it. I simply can't do 3 times a day as suggested in his book because baby turns and walks away. Sometimes baby would even wrestle the cards from me LOL :-)

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Heguru Right Brain Method

I live in an area where there's no existing Right Brain Education School. I really wish Heguru and Shichida will develop an online class for children so that parents like me with no access to Right Brain Schools will still be able to train their children the Heguru or Shichida way. I do EL at home following Doman style and supplementing with Little Reader but sometimes I feel it's not enough :-(

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: Is there any big secret for ealry talkers?

For me, I think using Little Reader helped because most of my baby's verbal vocabulary are words that were part of the curriculum. I also talk to her a LOT. I point, name and label the items in the house and I explain things to her. Everytime we go to the mall, my husband would say, I'm so noisy because I point and name almost everything. I would also get funny looks from other people at the mall So far I think it's working because at 13 months, my baby girl can say more than 50 words and she is very assertive in telling us if she wants or dislikes something (saying and signing more-more if she likes something and shaking her head and saying no-no-no if she doesn't like the food or any activity). She can say a few phrases too like mommy/daddy eat (if she wants to eat), go up, go down, mommy/daddy bye bye :-)

I agree. We started with Little Reader when my baby was 5 months old. At around 9 months, we went to a memorial park, she suddenly said d-d-dog dog and pointed at something in front of her, when her nanny looked at the direction of my baby's finger, there was a white poodle lying down. She again said dog when she saw another dog the same day. She would also say cat cat whenever she sees our neighbor's cat. Then at 11 months old, she can say mama, daddy, lolo (grandpa) lola (grandma) and at 12 months, she can say fish, eat, baby and man. She can also partly say toes (her version is toto) and milk (her version is mi-mi). All words are part of the Little Reader Semester 1 Curriculum.

I have successfully upgraded to version 3. My dilemma is that we were currently on day 60 with version 2 and we don't want to go back to day 1 but at the same time, I don't want to miss the words in the new categories found in day 1 to day 59 (sight words, pattern phonics, games, word split). Any tips?

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: Is anyone using the Doman dot cards math iPad app?

We have the Infant Math full version. I use it on days where I'm too tired to organize the physical dot cards especially the addition sessions. We are currently on numbers 35 to 44 and we have addition sessions with it. However, Subtraction will start only when you reach 50. I am however a little apprehensive that the equation (addition sessions) will cause confusion with my baby. Infant math addition sessions are like these: dots + dots = sum of dots and they show the plus sign and equal sign. When I do the physical dot cards, I just say plus without showing the + sign and say equals without showing the = sign since I'm following Doman. At the start of the Infant Math sessions, my baby would pay attention to it but lately, she turns her head whenever I start an infant math session with the ipad. Right now, I think she prefers the physical dot cards so that's what I show her.
