Thanks!  Can others also please confirm this observation.

One more thing - next time it happens, can you click on the link that says, "What data does this error report contain?" and tell me what it says there.  Either copy/paste or take a screenshot please.

Thanks!

Just wondering if it is only 8 of us having this problem?

Is it working fine with the others users?

Tahnks. Questers, in case you missed it:

One more thing - next time it happens, can you click on the link that says, "What data does this error report contain?" and tell me what it says there.  Either copy/paste or take a screenshot please.

Yes, it is not happening with everybody. In fact, we cannot reproduce the problem at all using several different computers and configurations.

However, we are starting to have some clues as to the reason for it.  Will propose a test soon.

KL,

The attached error occurred while running Picture Flash under Day 1.

I have attached a screenshot of the window that appeared when I clicked 'What data does this report contain' as you requested.

The error.log file still does not contain any errors.

Thank you
Lucky.

hi again
Today we couldn't get through picture flash, day 2 lesson 1  mellow mellow so we skipped it...

I've installed the file you sent me in PM and got the same message
I run the testbuild_202 and got this message:

Files in Use
Some files that need to be updated are currently in use.

The following applications are currently locking files.

   Little Reader.exe

I got this same message the first time (except mine was LittleReader.mdb) I closed the program and started over and it loaded the update completely but did not auto start LR after finish like it asked.  Haven't run the program yet to see if problem is still there. Will let you know as soon as I find out.

could run it second time around (LR wasn't open either time.) Didn't run LR though as we all just went swimming (it's hot here)

I ran "Day 001 Lessons / Seccion 1" 4 times just now.

(1) The first time: It crashed on the very first word in "A. word flash" session 1.

(2) The 2nd time: It ran okay with "A. word flash" and "B. Multisensory" and crashed at maybe the 5th slide of the "C. picture flash".

(3) The 3rd time: It crashed on the 6th word or something on "A. word flash" course.

(4) The 4th time: It crashed on the last word of "A. word flash" and message "Extraction failed / Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt". I clicked on OK, and it played a couple more slides of "B Multisensory" before crashing again.

I was not able to find the link that says "What data does this error report contain?"... but here is what happened to my LR:

When it crashes, the following message pops up:

Little reader.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

Then I clicked on Debug, it showed:

Little reader.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
For more information about this error, click here.

Then I clicked "click here", more messages showed up. See attached screen shot.

I will also attach the latest system report.

Thanks!

KL,

When I tried it today, it occurred during picture flash. I am attaching the screenshot of what appeared when I clicked "what data does this error report contain?" When I went to click further into the error details, I was not able to copy it. There is no option to copy it. I am also attaching the latest error log. The latest system report is not there. Only yesterday's system report is seen. I am attaching it anyway.

Questers.

I've encountered this problem more than a dozen times now. It occurs always during a playback with auto-forwarding, never occurred when it's manual forward.

It's hard to gather info because my PC freezes partially. I can click on "what data does this report contain?" and see the window with error, then the contents, but I couldn't copy all the content. I've attached the screenshot for both and the system report.

Thanks for the info, everyone.  We're getting there.

Looks like it's a codec problem that affects some XP users (unlikely to happen to Vista users as the offending codec involved is not used in Vista).

To solve this, can you please do the following.  Do the first one first, and if that doesn't help, try the second one:

1. INSTALLING FFDSHOW

http://d2.brillkids.com/upload/files/ffdshow-codec-pack.exe

During setup, there will be a page called "Select Additional Tasks", and you will see "Decode the following video formats with ffdshow" and "Decode the following audio formats with ffdshow".  PLEASE CHECK THE SECOND (AUDIO) OPTION AT LEAST, BUT BETTER TO CHECK BOTH BOXES.

After finishing installation, no need to do anything else. Just reboot Windows and give it a try (or may not need to reboot Windows, but at least restart LR).

What this does is to make sure that MP3 is decoded by ffdshow audio decoder instead of the offending codec "l3codecx.ax" (ffdshow is more stable and more widely used).

If that does not help, then do following:

2. UNREGISTER THE L3CODECX.AX CODEC

Warning: There is a possibility this step may cause issues with other applications' media.  Be on the lookout for this.  If it does, you can undo this step.

Open Start menu, select Run, paste there:

regsvr32 /u "%SystemRoot%\system32\l3codecx.ax"

Press OK.

What this does is to unregister this offending codec and asks Windows to find an alternative codec. This should not be a problem especially if you've installed the ffdshow codecs from above.  But in the event that it does not work, or causes problems with other programs that might insist on using this codec, then undo the above step by following the same step as above, except paste this instead:

regsvr32 "%SystemRoot%\system32\l3codecx.ax"

Please let us know how that goes!!

After running it, select "Additional Tasks" - > branch "Decode the following audio formats with ffdshow:" -> MP3

Where is it?

So sorry, the ffdshow we uploaded was the latest version, which has changed since the last version we had previously recommended.

I've edited my post above to change the instructions.  Please reinstall and follow those isntructions.
